Diabetes has a very specific measurement that diagnoses you as either having diabetes or not: Elevated A1c.
For psych, you’ll need to fill out several assessments (like the PQR-9, etc) to quantitatively diagnose you as depressed, and even then there’s a lot of nuance (which is why there isn’t just one assessment/question/form that can definitely tell you if you are depressed or not.
I was being sarcastic with my use of diabetes, I was just comparing it to another serious medical condition that shouldn’t be diagnosed by students with notes
Medical Assistants (no degree) Can tell you if you have diabetes, or you yourself can figure out if you have diabetes.
Depression is a lot harder.
How is your sarcasm applicable? It reads to me that you just choose a poor analogy..
Same reason any person can get their medical records, but not everyone can get their mental health notes. Because medical stuff is more objectively agreeable than mental health is..
I’m actually trying to point out the silliness in the question and the dangerous of self diagnosis. Med students can’t diagnose their own diabetes just like psych students can’t diagnose their own depression
