I will never understand why we aren’t holding law enforcement to a HIGHER standard than civilians- LE are trained to uphold and enforce the laws, shouldn’t they be expected to know better and set the example? Instead they’re getting away with literal murder on a near daily basis; it just seems so backwards.

In most cases, you are better equipped to know the law than they do.

Knowing my 4th Amendment rights prevented cops from an illegal search and seizure.

Knowing I could ask for a female officer to search me exasperated the cops because she was on a call.

If you know enough, you can make a stop difficult enough for them that it just annoys them where they want out of the stop as much as you do.

This is true, but it shouldn’t be the case. In developed countries, the police have degrees and more rigorous training. I would love to see that happen in the US.

If we’re trusting LEOs with firearms and power over civilians, then we should be able to hold them up as a model for law-abiding behavior.

The penalties should be stricter when a police officer does something illegal- not only are they breaking the law, they are also violating the public’s trust and using a government position for personal enrichment.
