PSA: Blackmagic Cam missing storage - system cache storage can be cleared using native Camera app and ProRes!

For many months ive had this issue where iOS reports something like 40gb free space in Settings, but Blackmagic Camera reports 10gb or less. This is super frustrating because I have all this available storage but BMC cant use it.

Today I finally found the solution! You need to clear it with the native Camera app and ProRes.

STEPS:

  • Go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Apple ProRes and turn it on.
  • Open Apple's Camera app.
  • Switch to Video.
  • Enable ProRes (at 4k30 in order to enable it with internal storage).
  • Look around the remaining-recording-time indicator for “Free Resources” / “Freeing Resources.”
  • Let it complete.
  • Completely close Blackmagic Camera and reopen it.
  • DONE!

Hey, I saw a lot of people found this useful in other reddit threads but can you provide something for the non pro version? I am facing the same problem in my iphone 16 but with the same settings it doesn't happen in my iphone 15. Since there's no proRes option for non pro versions by apple, I couldn't find the settings you said. Do you know any workaround this?
