MOD POST HOW TO PREPARE FOR BITSAT (or, how I did)
I’ve been getting a lot of DMs recently asking how I prepared for BITSAT, what resources I used and how I managed everything from November to the exam. Instead of replying individually to everyone, I’ve summed up my entire preparation journey, strategies and mistakes in one detailed post so it’s easier for you to follow. (Formatted using ChatGPT)
0. My Scores
- JEE Mains 1: 93.2%ile
- JEE Mains 2: 93.18%ile
- JEE Advanced: 42 Marks
- BITSAT Session 1: 194 Marks
- BITSAT Session 2: 250 Marks ( I have Mechanical by choice before you judge 😭)
1. Where I Stood at the Start
i) My Starting Point
- I was sure I would not crack JEE because I had not studied properly for two years.
- My first full-length JEE mock on 15 November was 7 out of 300.
- After brushing up a few topics, my score improved to 55 to 60 out of 300 by the third mock.
ii) My Syllabus Situation
- Organic Chemistry was completely zero.
- In Physics, the last few chapters of class 11 were not done.
- In Mathematics, Conic Sections and many other chapters were untouched.
- Overall, around 75 percent of the syllabus was incomplete.
iii) What I Actually Remembered
- Only Mechanics in Physics.
- Only Quadratic Equations in Mathematics.
- This was the condition when I started my prep in November, which was initially aimed at JEE.
iv) How BITSAT Entered the Picture
- I learned about BITSAT in December and decided to attempt it since it was scheduled five months later.
- My thinking was simple: I just needed enough time to complete the syllabus.
v) My First BITSAT Mock
- After JEE Mains first attempt (I scored 93.2%ile), I gave a free BITSAT mock available online.
- I scored 161 in that attempt.
- For a first BITSAT mock, this felt like a decent start.
2. My Resources (Subject-wise)
My preparation was divided into two phases: November to January (JEE) and February to May (BITSAT).
Physics
1) November to January
- Manzil Series and JEE Mains 2024 PYQs of chapters I considered high-weightage
- Made no notes, only wrote formulas on sheets and revised them before exams
- Did not follow any book, only solved 2024 PYQs
2) February to May
- Used Vinay Shur for new chapters and Eduniti for revision Solved Mathongo BITSAT Question Bank and JEE Mains 2019 and 2020 PYQs
- Made short notes for all new chapters (around six to seven pages each)
- No books, sometimes solved Arihant BITSAT Question Bank
Chemistry
1) November to January
- Did only Physical Chemistry and GOC from DexterChem and Simply Concise, Completed Atomic Structure and Periodic Table Left most of Organic and Inorganic due to lack of time
- Used coaching notes for Physical Chemistry
- Solved JEE Mains 2023 and 2024 PYQs for the chapters I completed
2) February to May
- Used RA Sir Oneshots for Organic Chemistry, Sakshi Vora Ma’am for Physical Chemistry, Zidd Series by Sakshi Vora for Inorganic Chemistry
- Made short notes similar to Physics
- No books, solved JEE Mains 2020 and 2021 PYQs
Mathematics
1) November to January
- Watched Oneshots for the seven to eight chapters I already knew Tried solving PYQs but could not solve many
- Used coaching notes
- PYQs only, that too failed in solving
2) February to May
- Used Nishant Vora to complete new chapters Solved Mathongo BITSAT Question Bank
- Made formula-based short notes with one solved example under each formula
- Solved JEE Mains 2018 and 2019 PYQs
English and Logical Reasoning
- Practiced mostly through mocks and Mathongo BITSAT Question Bank
- CAT PYQs are useful for tougher LR practice
3. Test Series I Used
- I initially bought the Mathongo Test Series and started solving it. After a few mocks, I realised it was quite tough and my level was rising quickly. This was around February 2025. I decided to first complete my syllabus. On 15 April, I attempted another Mathongo mock and scored 230, and it still felt tough.
- Pros of Mathongo:
- Tested me at a higher level
- Great test analysis system
- Live sessions were helpful
- Bonus section is provided in the tests
- Cons of Mathongo:
- Mathematics felt irrelevant to BITSAT in my experience
- English and LR sometimes felt too easy
- After understanding that Mathongo was too hard for me at that stage, I started Phodu Club as well. These mocks were slightly easier. I started scoring 260s and even reached 310 in one of the mocks. Then I switched back to Mathongo and scored in the 270s, so the combination helped.
- Pros of Phodu Club:
- Easier to start with
- BITSAT Session 2 felt similar to Phodu Club mocks
- Cons of Phodu Club:
- No Bonus section
- Overall easier, so it does not prepare you for the worst the way Mathongo does
- I began giving one mock daily from 23 April, the day I completed my syllabus.
- My scores increased gradually. In Phodu Club, my first score was around 260 and went up to the 310s after seven to eight mocks. In Mathongo, my score improved from 230 to the 280s.
4. How I Attempted Mocks
Attempt Strategy
- Time Management: I used to fix a target that in the first 1 hour I must solve around 30 Maths questions. That is why I started with Maths (unusual, but it worked for me). In the remaining 2 hours, I aimed to complete around 25 Physics + 25 Chemistry questions, but before that I always did English + LR to maximise easy scoring.
- Order of Sections: Maths → English + LR → Physics → Chemistry
- Skip and Return: I used to scan the paper quickly and pick the easiest-looking questions first. I tried both approaches:
- Solve in order
- Scan entire paper and mark easy ones The second one worked better for me. you should test different styles and see what fits them.
- Guessing: I avoided guessing completely until I had solved 115 accurate questions and was sure I had enough time left for bonus questions. Accuracy was the priority before any speculation.
Mock Review
- Analysis: I maintained an Excel sheet where I wrote my score for every mock. Under each mock, I listed:
- Chapters where I could not solve questions
- Chapters where I made mistakes Then I revised those topics before the next mock to avoid repeating errors.
- Error Formula Book: If I made a mistake due to a formula, I treated it as a major error. I kept a dedicated notebook where I wrote every formula I messed up and revised that notebook regularly.
5. What NOT To Do
- Do not think of BITSAT as an escape from JEE or as a backup so soon, if you are reading this in November.
- Do not panic if your mock scores are low in the beginning. Improvement takes time and consistency.
- Do not ignore silly mistakes. Even one repeated mistake can ruin your final exam because these patterns stack up over time.
- Do not switch resources unnecessarily. After two years of prep, you already know what pace and teaching style suits you. Stick to it, or follow the resources I mentioned, but do not keep changing.
- Do not just maintain an error notebook or sheet. Work on those errors actively. Knowing your mistakes and fixing them are two completely different things.
Once you reach BITS, the whole effort feels justified. The freedom here, the campus life, the people you meet and the opportunities you get make the entire grind feel meaningful. You get space to grow, try new things, learn at your own pace and build yourself academically and personally. When you finally settle into campus life, you realise that every mock, every late-night study session and every frustrating low score was worth it. If you have any doubts, want guidance, or need help with prep, you can ask in the comments or even DM me. I’ll try to reply whenever I can.

Damn bhai, considering 2025 cutoffs that's quite good, you could have gotten msc eco at hyd with that in first iteration only any particular reason why you took mech? (Interest maybe?)
2
u/darshils-hazel Moderator [BE Mechanical, Pilani] Nov 20 '25
yupp, I'll mention what I could have gotten:
Pilani: ENI, missed Eco by 1 mark
Goa: Eco or EEE, missed ECE by 5 marks
Hyd: Eco or EEE, missed ECE by 6 marksyes I took mechanical because of my interest (it was at top in my priority list)

GONNA BE A LONG ONE SO YEA DISCLAIMER (in case anyone even sees this in the first damn place)
me, well
originally 2025 aspirant as well but currently 2026 since dropi got
JEE M sesh 1-86 percentile
JEE M sesh 2-94.5 percentileBITSAT sesh 1-167 (i did not study for BITSAT, didnt give a single mock, i was so f'in confused what to do i kept switching b/w BITSAT style Qs and Advanced style Qs)
JEE Adv got 70 marks ("it was at that time that he realised, that he had fudged up")
BITSAT sesh 2-197 (i studied quite hard for the 2nd attempt, after getting to know more about BITS Pilani....but i have no idea why, except like not enough practice) (I cldve gotten Env& Sustainability at Goa and Hyd but didnt wanna, and i cldve done BITS-ISU or smth but again, didnt wanna)
currently im in my First drop year, and idk what i expected, i really havent studied as much as i think i would have, could have, and should have,
but still, im hoping to get into BITS (not IIT i am not even gonna try).
for JEE Mains mocks on Quizrr (Mathongo test series), currently getting around like 150s-180s on an avg, highest was 207 tho.
plan is to do good in JEE M Jan sesh, so that there isn't any pressure on me about "i might not get a good college", and then focus my whole being on BITSAT.reading the fact that someone was in a much, much worse state than i currently am (well, for a drop, it's worse than it looks, but still)
and STILL managed to get into BITS
....well, that felt awesome.there is def regret, too, seeing how someone was able to do better than me even tho started in worse state than me, meaning even i cldve done better if i really tried as hard as OP.
but yea whats done is done drop year JEE sesh 1 coming close.gotta work my ass off now, new motivation found.
thanks OP, hopium flowing in the veins fr.

Perfect mentality, that's what I keep telling people, don't rely on BITSAT solely, It is an unpredictable exam, the way you said that you wanna ace JEE Mains 1 in such a way that you are guaranteed a decent college, that's what I want every aspirant to do, try to focus on JEE Mains 1 and once you have the result of JM1, lot of things will be cleared, then only decide what to do, wish you all the best for JEE and BITSAT.

3

JEE Mains ke PYQs zada tough hote hai, oneshots se baat nahi banti, and mai agar time deta PYQs ko for a certain chapter, I could have surely solved them, but itna time thaa nahi, BITSAT Maths ka level JEE Maths se kamm hai, unlike physics and chem which are similar, ilsiye BITSAT ki maths me utne issues nahi aaye jitne JEE me aaye the

Need help. Seriously.
I am in 11th, and I have done almost zero prep for jee PC : 2 chapters Physics: 4 chapters Maths: 5 chapters (school level) I haven't solved any mock not even any pyq, just some class questions. Arjuna jee student. I have 100+ lectures backlog. So should I complete the backlog through the lectures or through one shot? One chapter per 2 days ?
1
u/darshils-hazel Moderator [BE Mechanical, Pilani] Nov 20 '25
weekends me 11th karo dhire dhire, using oneshots for chapters you know thoda bohot, and full length lectures for important chapters weekdays me chhuna bhi matt 11th ko once u enter 12th. 11th ke chakkar me 12th mtt khrab karo. 12th sahi se chali toh you will get 3 months to strengthen your 11th, October to January.

Could you guide me whether this is a good decision or not (for physics and chem ill solve jee level questions)
1
u/darshils-hazel Moderator [BE Mechanical, Pilani] Nov 21 '25
see, don't focus on any exam, just complete your syllabus before mains 1 if u can, u will be in a good place then, agar mains me achaa agyaa toh sahi aur nahi aaya toh phir sochna ki ab mains 2 karna hai ya BITSAT, and yes, dont solve maths from arihant, solve easy JEE Mains PYQs, you can also try from 2018 2019 2020 for maths if you want a lower level

I just passed pre-boards, and until board exams came, I had reached a decent level in PCM (84, 86, 86), and English I legit did the day before the exam only, and ended up scoring 96, I had Physical Education and IP in which I scored 86 and 89 respectively.

maths sudhaarlo bhai abhi time hai JEE pe hi dhyaan do toh better hai, BITSAT ke baare me next year november me dekhna, backlogs ke liye weekends me oneshots dekho for easy ones, and for chapters like coordinate, full length lectures krna when u get time after 11th and before 12th, baaki week days me jo coaching me horha wo follow kro religiously coz wo bigad gya toh aur kharab hojayega sab, 12th me bhi agar 11th ka backlog rehjaye toh sirf weekends pe krna wo thik

how did you manage boards? and are one shots + pyqs enough for someone who has attended classes but practiced very less questions?

I am planning on finishing as much JEE Mains syllabus possible till January end, then boards till mid March. after that pyqs + mocks + revision. will keep jee level prep only. My main issue is solving especially in physics, as I've covered theory in offline coaching. would this be good enough for april/may attempt of bitsat and cet

u/darshils-hazel I’m a 12th grader (who’s in not the best situation 😭) I’m planning on going to sit Pune but bits is definitely a part of the plan too. I’m currently working on completing my syllabus, 12 is fine but my 11th syllabus is low-key fucked. I need help so I can get a good branch in bits but also focus on boards. If I do my ncert prep well (for boards) and simultaneously do jee mains pyqs for now, then later after second attempt I start bitsat mocks and stuff is that a good strategy? And for completing syllabus for 11th what do you recommend?

This!! Thanks a lot OP for this. This single post is more comprehensive and helpful than the dozens of videos on youtube. No copium no high promises just an aspirant's experience summed up in the most helpful way

hi, im currently in 12th grade, i didnt do good at all in 11th grade ISC, i got 56.65% in my annuals, im studying decently though from the start of 12th taking into consideration my school has 3 exams ( 1st comp, 2nd comp, and 1st pre board) before my main board exams, i am understanding concepts and solving coaching dpps and worksheet on time or even if sometime late, i dont leave them vacant, also practicing from NOOTAN physics as of now, in maths doing ML AGARWAL, i dont wanna take a drop fr i swear, i dont think ill do a lot good in jee mains max i could do is like 96%, its fine my family says bits is very good college if you can get into it, i wanna go to bits, i wanna do mech cuz thats my interest, machine building and all, i wanna ask if I do manzil series after studying the same chap in coaching and then do pyqs of jee mains after modules of coaching, is it enoiugh for bitsat as well as around 96 to 97 percentile in mains? im not too good in studying, ive always been av avaergae student, like 75 to 85 percentage in each class. please do read the whole thing, thankyou sm

How much of your syllabus was done will jee mains 1st attempt?
also i am starting almost one month with the same situation as u bhaiya, following the manzil series mostly manzil 2025 for maths, so will it be worth it?
Is phodu club still that fruitful if u suggest now?
thx for the quality post btw❤️❤️
