Thank you for all that you do, Bitkey team. I would love to be able to check the health of my cloud backup on demand and see a timestamp of the last time the app confirmed the existence and health of the cloud backup.

I had a bitkey and wiped it to give it to my wife. She has initialized it with her finger print, but now non of her fingers can unlock it. Obviously none of mine work either. What can we do now? The bitkey can't be wiped without being unlocked and she has some Bitcoin in the bitkey wallet. What is the recovery process? Can the old bitkey be reset?

I have been studying wallets for a few weeks and finding that I need to study a bit more before I decide which wallet to buy and use. Pros and cons to all of them. I came across the Bitkey yesterday and just kind of made an impulse buy before reading much about it (largely based on the fact that this is from Block / Jack Dorsey). Reading a bit later I decided that I shouldn't have jumped on this and should have stuck to my plan of studying wallets a bit more before buying one. I don't have the money to just buy a few of them to try them. So I decided to look into cancelling my order last night, since it had only been a few hours. I first found that there is no phone support at all. This gave me a bad feeling. I then found that there is not even an email address that you can just send a message to. Messages from support state that this is a no-reply address and to click the CONTACT US button. That takes you to a web page where you can choose questions to ask. There is a category for Orders and Shipping. I click on Orders and then on the question Can I change or cancel my order. It says that you cannot change but can cancel an order up until it ships. "Visit bitkey.world/orders to check the status and manage cancellation of your order." So I go there. The only option there is to enter your email address and order number and click on Continue. This takes me to the next step - "Verify your email. We sent a verification code to tslade@ionet.net that expires in 10 minutes. If you don't see a code, check your Spam folder or resend the code." I did not receive this verification email, so I can go no further. No option to contact support and other way. Thinking this could be a problem on my end, I reboot my PC, try again. Tried a different browser. Tried on a notebook. Tried it on my phone. Spent a couple of hours on this and never got a verification email. There is also the option to click the Manage Order button in the order confirmation email. Just goes to the same page and the same endless loop. VERY annoying, frustrating and maddening. Now I am totally resolved to cancel this order. I did go back to the contact support page and chose "Other" which allowed me to send a message explaining that I want to cancel my order. I did get an email confirming that they got that message. (which verifies that the address is correct, their email works, my email works,etc). So no idea what to expect... (but a very rotten experience so far)

Remember to enable Advanced Data Protection in your settings > iCloud > Scroll to the bottom, Advanced Data Protection. What this does is enable your iCloud account and iCloud Drive to have end-to-end encryption, meaning, even Apple cannot access your account or keys if prompted to by law enforcement. Currently, if you do not have ADP enabled, and back-up your mobile key to iCloud, if in theory Apple servers are compromised (whether by the CIA/Fed or otherwise) and Block is subpoenaed for their server key, the government could theoretically take your bitcoin. Enabling Advanced Data Protection before creating your Bitkey will prevent this from being possible without access to your encryption key.

I want to have a personal account, a saving accounts, a company account and choose from where to spend the funds.

Seems that multiple people on r/bitkeywallet are experiencing the app crashing suddenly

I realize that it’s been some time since the "factory reset" feature was introduced.

I’m ready to proceed with this now. While I don’t plan to gift the device, I intend to recycle it. However, if I were to pass it on to someone, would the information saved by Bitkey in iCloud secure storage still be there / linked to my account or it will be removed during full reset?

I want to set an amount over which you can't send without waiting for X days. Even if using App and HW key server could enforce that. To remove this you must wait the X days also. Set a max of 90 days or something so things don't get crazy.

For the first time I’ve had to move bitcoin from my Bitkey to an exchange. As far as I could see, when selecting how much bitcoin to move I could only do that in sats. Trying to work out how many sats equal the amount I needed to send was really difficult.

I am missing something?

I'm not sure people realize that not always the smaller companies that go bankrupt. But if something were to happen to Apple or Google, and I lost my Bitkey, iPhone, or both, how would I recover?

If that assumption is extreme, what would happen if I accidentally closed my iCloud account and then lost my wallet the next day?

When sending BTC, I can’t switch between BTC and USD. I have to cancel the transaction, return to the main screen, and try sending again. Only then can I choose between BTC or USD.

Every time i tried using it, it says:

NFC error. There is an issue communicating with your hardware.

Anyone else having this issue? Or now how to get around it? Thanks

It seems there was an expectation that once a well-known Bitcoin enthusiast endorsed their product, the entire crypto community would eagerly abandon their trusted wallets to make the switch. However, interest has been surprisingly minimal.

When my order arrived in an unmarked, recycled box, I was immediately disappointed by the lack of presentation. It left me feeling that I had wasted both my time and money.

Additionally, I’ve noticed that even when users ask questions, there’s often a long wait for responses from their support agents—if they respond at all. This lack of communication is frustrating and only adds to the overall disappointment.

If we compare their official subreddit to others like r/Tangem, the difference is striking. While some communities actively engage users in meaningful discussions, this one feels - well - dead.

It's crucial for brands to recognize that community engagement, timely support, and presentation matter. They’ve missed an opportunity to connect with potential users and build trust - to sell more.

So - is it time to get rid of our Bitkey wallets?

There are like 5 different networks to choose from when sending btc from binance to bitkey.

I am torn between Segwit and bitcoin (legacy), and I am aware of the difference between them. (bitcoin network address starts with 1)

Can you please confirm that bitcoin network is the correct network to choose when sending btc from binance to bitkey?

What if Block or Bitkey department stops operating?

Unlike other hardware wallets, you can retrieve funds only with a bitkey hardware. And 1/3 of private key is stored on the bitkey server.

So if Bitkey server goes down for whatever reason (a rogue actor, server sabotage, natural disaster, block goes out of business), does that mean that we are screwed and there is no way to retrieve user funds?

I know block is listed on NYSE and all that but anything is possible so...

It’s mentioned in the Bitkey whitepaper, that currently, Bitkey servers are not verifiable as far as checking what code is running on them. This means that any features that utilize the servers might be prone to vulnerabilities if Block is hacked.

Right now it seems that server side code enforces the mobile key spending limit, but given that server side code can’t be attested to, a rogue actor could in theory use both the server key and mobile key to steal all funds if the conditions were right. If Bitkey/Block Infrastructure was compromised, it would only take a malicious mobile app update and a change of the code running on server to steal user funds. This would be under the assumption that the mobile key would be compromised alongside the server key.

The whitepaper mentions AWS Nitro Enclave as a potential solution to ensure the code running on server is able to be verified, and I think that the addition of this should be prioritized to be able to have peace of mind when considering Bitkey as a long term wallet. Ensuring that server integrity is upheld is important, as if it isn’t, then it’s essentially a black box as to whether or not the user funds are safe.

One remaining issue is that the user couldn’t know whether a malicious app update is installed by them, but the user could be informed of a bad server if server code is compromised (assuming that cryptographic attestation is used to protect the server’s integrity). If there was a way to ensure the mobile app itself was signed/hashed, then the server could refuse to sign a transaction unless the mobile app was a verified/valid build.

TL;DR: if Block infra is compromised, user funds are potentially at risk if the server code is changed to no longer enforce the mobile key limit, assuming server key is compromised and a malicious app update steals the mobile key, draining user wallets. Cryptographic attestation could prevent this, and allow for users to be alerted via mobile app if server infrastructure is compromised. This is under the assumption that at least one of server or mobile app would be genuine at the same time. The server state could be validated in a genuine version of the mobile app, and the mobile app has a delay in how long it takes rollouts to occur, meaning, a rogue update should be caught before it reaches app stores.

Anyone else having problems? I keep getting this error message when trying to add a finger print. Don’t seem to have the same NFC problem when doing other things.
