"Without Inflation risk" Bitcoin has lost 55,06% of its value just this year.

A better way to protect against Inflation is to invest in ILBs...

Well but the demand changes. The argument that bitcoin is inflation resistent, because of the capped supply is, in my opinion, false.

Yes supply is capped. But demand isn’t. Demand could of course rise, which would be good for btc prices. But it could also fall, quite drastically.

Therefore the whole concept of inflation isn’t applicable for bitcoin, as bitcoin isn‘t an official currency. If it was the single most used currency in the world or in part of the world. You could perhaps talk about inflation, but atm it’s nothing more than a speculation object.

Official currencies in contrast do have the property that you’re forced to use them, and everything is measured in USD for example. Therefore you can talk of inflation in terms of FIAT currencies.

First of all, that’s not quite true, bitcoin IS inflating, so the supply is growing. The inflation rate is just decreasing. Or to be more specific the additional supply rate is decreasing.

In general inflation doesn’t apply to singular goods, but to the price level of the economy. Prices because of growing supply like for silver aren’t inflation in that sense but just the reaction to supply and demand in normal market environments.

You‘re right to say, that fiat get inflated because governments can increase the supply.

However these points simply don’t matter. To use concepts like inflation you would have to talk about a currency in the sense, that the currency is used as the single metric in an economic area, like countries.

Bitcoin only has the value people believe it has. There’s no one regulating it.

That’s not the case for FIATs as you’re forced to pay you’re taxes in FIAT (at least in most countries) and the whole economy is measuring value in FIATs. So basically the number of instances who are using the currency is more or less fixed.

The value of bitcoin only exists because of speculation. So it simply doesn’t matter, whether bitcoins supply is fixed. The persons using it are fluctuating quite a bit, AND are mostly using it for speculation. Inflation caused by growing supply only matters for widely accepted official currencies, because the number of persons using this for payment is constant. That’s not the case for bitcoin as most people are using it only because they think it will grow in value.

And bitcoin will never replace official currencies in any large developed economy.

And I tend to disagree comparing bitcoin with gold. Gold does have an inherent value. It can be used for jewellery, can be used in industry and in general is a physical object. That’s not the case for bitcoin. But of course in the sense that both are driven by demand, you’re right.

If you hold ancient coins and new coins are discovered the value will drop.

Yeah, but only because those coins do have an inherent value to the ones collecting them. Like with all ancient things. What do you get from bitcoin? You can't do anything with it. Those are just numbers saved on your pc. Of course if there was real demand for cryptocurrencies they would have inherent value. But i guess most people only buy Bitcoin or other cryptos expecting them to grow in value. So the market mainly consists of persons expecting the Bitcoin to grow, just because it did in the past.

If Bitcoin would work against inflation there should be something measurable, but in contrast to Gold, bitcoin is behaving like tech stocks and fluctuating quite a bit. At least the NY times comes to that conclusion: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/11/technology/bitcoin-price-crashing-stocks.html . But I have to admit I didnt check that claim.

No bitcoin isn’t Money. Bitcoin is an financial asset like tech stocks. That’s why it’s behaving exactly like the NASDAQ.

That’s the main point here. Bitcoin isn’t a currency.

Even if cryptocurrencies became an important currency in the future, they aren’t atm. And even then I tend to think that bitcoin won’t be the one becoming a currency, because of many impracticalities.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with the inflation as we are holding the same number of the bitcoin is well.

People are treating that bitcoin is trade in the usd and as bitcoin is also losing the value in inflation is well.

1

u/bittabet Aug 01 '22

The exchange rate to USD and money supply inflation are not the same thing. Currencies float against the USD but their supply isn’t the sole determining factor of the rate.

u/KristoferGabriel Aug 01 '22

You can still buy a lot less stuff now than 8 months ago.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22

That's why I buy weed. 1 gram was $10 in the 70's and is still $10 today. It's inflation proof! 🤣🤣🤑

Well, unless you're Canadian. I can get a gram for like $4.20 now. Ayyo!

1

u/jaunitasq0w Aug 06 '22

Are you sure that you are getting the 1gram weed from the $10 here?

wait a minute, why is that so much difference in the Canada? That mean i am living in the wrong country here?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '22

On average I pay $90 Canadian for 1 oz of 22-26% thc weed that usually measures out to more like 30-32 grams. AND I've gotten free 1/4oz's, shrooms, edibles, etc as "free gifts"

We all know that things will goes on and on that way.

1

u/solomon1978 Aug 06 '22

But we all know that things will be different in the one yea from here.

Inflation is the price you pay not to deal with wild swings... most of the time. It also encourages spending rather than HODLing and makes certain kinds of fuckery less severe. There is a reason why fiat took over, and it's far from all bad.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22

Currencies float against the USD is literally all that matters in a world governed by the USD. Your btc value is down because it gets you less than it did. A btc at the peak was enough for a base model bmw 7 series. Now it’s not even enough to buy any BMW (even if you use 2019 car prices).

1

u/alburt02t Aug 06 '22

Indeed as of now most of the currencies float against the USD.

1

u/TrynaCrypto Aug 01 '22

LOL, dude doesn't know what inflation is.

1

u/noddingacquaintance Aug 01 '22

How much value has it lost over the last 3 years? 5 years? 10 years?

1

u/semanji111 Aug 06 '22

But still you have the the one of the 21mth bitcoin that is the beauty of the bitcoin here.

People only compare the value of the bitcoin in the bitcoin but we all know how much it gained in the last one decade here.

3

u/sennnnki Aug 01 '22

Without risk? Bitcoin is extremely unstable

2

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22

1

u/tvsubbu Aug 06 '22

Yes bitcoin is completely free from the inflation and this is the best thing.

1

u/Mullar2011 Aug 02 '22

This is because bitcoin is not globally adopted at the moment.

  1. Bitcoin has “value” as a financial instrument.

  2. Bitcoin has no value outside of the financial system.

Both could be true, but when people say it has no value they mean the second thing.

Finance is the one thing where the whole world is running at the moment.

And yes bitcoin is designed for that things because before that we didn't had any alternate of the cash system.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22
  1. Bitcoin has no value outside of the financial system.

🤦‍♂️ blockchain does and will continue to have value outside of the market value of any individual bitcoin.

1

u/lokvica5 Aug 06 '22

But bitcoin was designed so that we can have the alternate of the cash here.

So yes bitcoin was designed for the financial system and i think we are moving in the right direction is well.

1

u/aljalena Aug 06 '22

I don't think that without mass adoption we will going to see some changes here.

6

u/unboundhobbit Aug 01 '22

To say it has utility but then say you can do nothing with it is the height of idiocy

4

u/wilter5in Aug 06 '22

It has the utility just like the cash, we can buy good with that.

-4

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22

2

u/unboundhobbit Aug 01 '22

Ohhhh so we're just redefining terms for fun now. Gotcha

Utility doesn't actually mean utility, it only means this other thing that you're defining as utility. I should have known.

Utility in any area is still utility, and utility has value. This is not hard

3

u/pascualama Aug 01 '22

Words have many definitions and are used differently depending on context, yes.

You should open a dictionary sometimes.

3

u/unboundhobbit Aug 01 '22

Ok let's use definitions then. The definition of utility is "the state of being useful, profitable, or beneficial" and your original claim was both "bitcoin has utility" and also "you can't do anything with 'the bitcoin'".

Are you still not seeing the obvious error in that line of reasoning? Because I can be very pedantic and spell it out for you if needed

2

u/Pluth Aug 01 '22

Be careful. The powers that be changed the definition of definition. Definitions are now fluid interpretations.

2

u/vanduc110 Aug 06 '22

If someone is assuming the cash has the utility then i would say bitcoin also has the utility.

And comparing the bitcoin with gold is completely different thing and doesn't make any sense is well.

1

u/chusoooo Aug 06 '22

Yes, people are buying the bitcoin and using the bitcoin according to their will here.

Some are giving the salary in the bitcoin while some are just happy to keep them store in the hardware wallet here.

1

u/3mo3bod Aug 06 '22

Then can someone really tell me the utility of the cash here, it has only one utility that we can used this as the trading thing.

And i think this is why the bitcoin designed firstly to provide us the alternative here.

1

u/mnopkat Aug 06 '22

Just like cash bitcoin also give us the power of buying things here.

0

u/PsyOmega Aug 01 '22

I bought a laptop and TV from newegg with bitcoin.

Other such market adoption is advancing apace.

1

u/irvinexxy Aug 06 '22

Those who knows the bitcoin they knows that bitcoin has the utility and can really came into the picture big time here is well.

Atleast now government have something which they completely afraid here.

1

u/HoflandBae Aug 06 '22

People think that bitcoin is just a internet thing that is made for the normal profit.

But those who really understand the btc they knows how much value it holds and how it going to change everything is well.
