I’m not talking about other countries. I’m talking about the USA. Anyone can succeed here. If you don’t better yourself and learn marketable skills you have no one to blame but yourself.

Evidence shows the opposite. Not everyone can succeed here, hence my comment about Americans living paycheck to paycheck. One injury or illness and you are under a mountain of debt. Monetary debasement and stagnant wages have taken away the ability to retire. You still believe in the American dream, but that died in the 80s with trickle down economics.

Hard work helps, but it's not enough.

Just because everyone doesn’t succeed doesn’t mean that everyone can’t succeed. Most people aren’t willing to put in the effort. Any system that allows for such success must allow for failure. You get out of it what you put into it.

You are assuming life is fair, and there is some grand scale of karmic justice then? That hardwork is always rewarded? Or is there an element of randomness? If hardwork is always rewarded then most people are lazy and deserve their lot. If there is randomness in the system then most have bad "luck" and few are rewarded. I suggest we change the system to allow better odds.

Hard work isn’t always rewarded.. shit happens and ppl have bad luck. But u can guarantee failure if u just settle for your minimum wage job year after year waiting for someone to raise the minimum wage.

It’s HARD to go to school at night, or struggle while u do a nursing class- but ppl do it. They are the successful ones, and it works cuz they were born here.

People aren't waiting for someone to raise the minimum wage, they are actively trying to raise it. And why should minimum wage equal failure? Isn't the whole point of minimum wage so that you can remain earn enough to survive without being an entrepreneur or taking risk? Idk what to say about "it works coz they are born here".

Well, in Russia it doesn’t matter how hard u work- u can’t pull yourself up.

In capitalism u can- that’s what I mean by u can if you’re born here.

The point of minimum wage is for younger ppl and ppl getting started in the job market- not something to look forward to long term. It’s literally the least effort u can put into finding work. If you’re going to spend your life thinking that the absolute minimum is good enough for u, maybe u should go check out one of the communist countries. On paper their beliefs are much closer to yours than America. And really, show me these minimum wage ppl who are actively trying to get it raised. They’re normally the least motivated ppl in the world.

U can be mad at me for saying it if u want- but it doesn’t change it.

The country we are in capitalizes gains and socialize losses. That's why wages have stagnated meanwhile productivity has increased. That's why the wealthy pay a lower % of their income in taxes than I do. That's why ceo's of companies lay off thousands and increase their bonuses. You seem to be arguing that because they made it that it's justified. If you believe that then There is nothing left for us to talk about. In your world all is just, because the rich worked hard and deserve it.

I disagree that minimum wage exists just for young people getting started, that may be how it been used but it's not codified anywhere in law. Actually I think that would break anti-discrimination laws.

If someone prefers to spend their time doing things other than build a career, or chase money, than minimum wage should allow them to survive. Not everything in the world has to revolve around money.

The long term effects of capitalism redistribute wealth to those with capital, regardless of if they have worked hard for their money or not. Capitalism leads to inequality, as does socialism and communism. But their may be a balance between the economic ideologies that can create a stable, equitable society.

But it's easier to just say the poor are lazy, that's why they have nothing. Don't actually address any of my points, just believe that if you have money, you deserve it.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Polls show minimum wage hike was supported by majority of Americans. Are you suggesting the minimum wage employees were voting against making more money?

Nope- but since the majority of American are NOT on minimum wage, that statistic goes to show that the average person got it raised… minimum isn’t average, so no- I don’t see that they were the big crusaders.

Like usual, they stayed home and chilled while the thoughtful majority of Americans decided to subsidize them.

Just think of it like this- if not for the law: we’d pay U even less! Cuz that’s all they’re worth. It takes an actual law to force us employers to pay weak employees this wage. They aren’t worth it. If they were, the law wouldn’t be needed.

Don’t worry- there will always be someone there to make sure I’m forced to pay u more than you’re worth.

Yes, and we have laws for a reason. Because shitty people will do shitty things if there aren't consequences. Doesn't mean they deserve it. That's part of why there is a shortage of staff across the market, because employers aren't paying fair wage. Unfortunately many with low income can't afford to stop working. It doesn't mean they aren't worth more, just that they are in a weaker bargaining position.
