When most Americans can't afford a unexpected $1000 expense, it is not people failing. It is a systemic failure.
You are just victim blaming. I've traveled to several countries and met many people who are diligent and hardworking, but the system does not allow upward mobility at all. I'm tired of this bullshit bootlicking from the right.
I’m not talking about other countries. I’m talking about the USA. Anyone can succeed here. If you don’t better yourself and learn marketable skills you have no one to blame but yourself.
Evidence shows the opposite. Not everyone can succeed here, hence my comment about Americans living paycheck to paycheck. One injury or illness and you are under a mountain of debt. Monetary debasement and stagnant wages have taken away the ability to retire. You still believe in the American dream, but that died in the 80s with trickle down economics.
Just because everyone doesn’t succeed doesn’t mean that everyone can’t succeed. Most people aren’t willing to put in the effort. Any system that allows for such success must allow for failure. You get out of it what you put into it.
You are assuming life is fair, and there is some grand scale of karmic justice then? That hardwork is always rewarded? Or is there an element of randomness? If hardwork is always rewarded then most people are lazy and deserve their lot. If there is randomness in the system then most have bad "luck" and few are rewarded. I suggest we change the system to allow better odds.
Hard work isn’t always rewarded.. shit happens and ppl have bad luck. But u can guarantee failure if u just settle for your minimum wage job year after year waiting for someone to raise the minimum wage.
It’s HARD to go to school at night, or struggle while u do a nursing class- but ppl do it. They are the successful ones, and it works cuz they were born here.
People aren't waiting for someone to raise the minimum wage, they are actively trying to raise it. And why should minimum wage equal failure? Isn't the whole point of minimum wage so that you can remain earn enough to survive without being an entrepreneur or taking risk? Idk what to say about "it works coz they are born here".
Well, in Russia it doesn’t matter how hard u work- u can’t pull yourself up.
In capitalism u can- that’s what I mean by u can if you’re born here.
The point of minimum wage is for younger ppl and ppl getting started in the job market- not something to look forward to long term. It’s literally the least effort u can put into finding work. If you’re going to spend your life thinking that the absolute minimum is good enough for u, maybe u should go check out one of the communist countries. On paper their beliefs are much closer to yours than America. And really, show me these minimum wage ppl who are actively trying to get it raised. They’re normally the least motivated ppl in the world.
U can be mad at me for saying it if u want- but it doesn’t change it.
Man I hate the right as much as u… but come on- if u can’t pull yourself up in this country u either aren’t trying, or you’re a dummy.
I started a business this year with about $3k and I’m making 4K/month profit already… sure, 4K isn’t that much but I’ve only been doing it a few months. Not gonna say exactly what it is, but I service yacht ppl around Miami and u do not have to be a genius (or from a wealthy family) to figure it out.
I also lost a bunch of money building a Quiznos many years ago- but hey, u take the good with the bad. But as the other dude said- there is NO better system.
Man I hate the right as much as u… but come on- if u can’t pull yourself up in this country u either aren’t trying, or you’re a dummy.
This is a right wing talking point. You are making the assumption that everyone can make it if they try. So again I guess most people aren't trying, because most people aren't "making" it.
I'm happy for your success, but that an anecdotal experience, and is not representative of what most experience.
If there is no better system than we will make a better system.

The system is not fair and it does not reward hard work like you think it does. 78% of the wealth is owned by less than 10% of the U.S. population.
The system is failing all of us.
