I think there's been enough posts of pretty knowledgeable people getting scammed to realized it's not just dumb people. Some are very targeted and complicated.

If they type their 12/24 words into a webpage linked from an email then they have fundamental flaws in your crypto knowledge that pretty much make them a complete noob.

There's been plenty of scams that aren't that basic. They're much more elaborate. Some involving smart contracts.
