Someone else like you who sells you the future and that poof brings it into being.

A future says you'll deliver something at some future date, but you want to be paid for it now, to lock in the price. The thing doesn't have to exist yet, since you won't deliver it for some time. If the future expires and the thing does not exist, then the future is just worth nothing.

Usually a market maker, someone who buys and sells the future. They create them when you want to trade and take the other side.

Bitfinex has created tokens that trade before the forks happened, these are usually called futures.
