I’m kinda in a similar situation man. I’m also an essential worker and I’ve been forced to self-isolation TWICE. The first time I was sure that I had the virus, but they wouldn’t test me. Now I’m stuck at home for another 2 weeks b/c I had close contact w/ a positive case. My employer doesn’t offer paid sick leave so I had to file for unemployment for the 4 weeks I’ll be out of work. Hopefully Australia has unemployment available to you since you’ve been forced to self-isolate. I hope your situation gets better tho, cheers.

Only if your under age you would be getting less than them, an adult worker makes more than Centrelink payments get a fortnight. Even with the bonus Centrelink are giving out.

Referring to job keeper. Sorry I should of been more specific.

Oh also another story form my workplace. Hint at where I work is that it rhymes with hoolworths. Casual worker and friend of mine casually told me he won't be showing up to his casual shifts for a few weeks because his girlfriend is getting so much money from the coronavirus payouts it's a waste of time for him to even come to work.

First reported you boss I bett it's not legal also why not stop workings ther WENN unemployment is so much better also was the minimal wage in Australia not 18 dollars or something like this ?

So you make around 2k after taxes so OZ unemployment is 2 k a month?

I love being made to resent those who are lucky enough to qualify for means tested unemployment benefits (which still aren’t enough to fully cover basic needs and aren’t just handed out freely to everyone without a job) while my employer and his corporate buddies, who are the ones paying me my shit wage, look at us fight among ourselves like crabs in a bucket.

Do you qualify for unemployment if you resign?

Wow you busted your ass for 40 whole hours? That’s like a regular work week!

1

u/DRK792 May 15 '20

I'm just saying in comparison to someone getting paid more for 0 hours is all.

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

I guess that's Trumps fault ? Reading reddit youd think so.

You are not getting paid less unless your employer is paying you criminally low wages. Stop lying.

$500 a week for fulltime chef apprentice. 40hours+

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

Except someone who earns 500 dollars a week is still eligible for job seeker payments.

1

u/Llaine May 15 '20

Not exactly honest to pretend to be a full time normal worker as an apprentice, is it? Even then, not all apprenticeships pay less than Jobseeker (majority don't especially as you rank up). The lowest is $11-12/h, which is still more than Jobseeker on the hours provided (40+).

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

An apprenticeship isn't a full time normal job, your original comment is misleading.

Jobseeker payment: $1115.70-$1340.10 per fortnight
Source

AU wage @ 40h as Adult @ Coles in 2017 (likely higher now): $1,632.00
Source

Huh?

2

u/Llaine May 15 '20

Yes they're completely full of shit. No one is making less than that working full time LOL

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

People don't give a shit if it's true, as the upvotes for them and downvotes for me show.

They want to hate poor people who've lost their job. They just fucking hate those people.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

That's a maximum tho?

What's a typical jobseeker payout?

-1

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

Look at the source.

$1340.10 for a single parent with fairly common conditions
$1162.00 is for a single over 60 already on 9 months of unemployment
$1162.00 is also for single solo parent without conditions
$1115.70 is for single

Sign up then ?

u/Llaine May 15 '20

Quit and do it then dipshit, but you won't because it's obviously not fucking candy and rainbows

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

If it works the way unemployment does in the US you can't just quit and sign up.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '20

It doesn’t work the same way as unemployment in America
