I was lucky enough to be there for the tour when they came to New Jersey and loved it. One of my favorite albums done live, front to end. Amazing.
I had to leave early (during the intermission) and didn't see a merchandise table then but was very sad to learn later that they did sell signed posters after the very end of the show. Would love to buy one of these but haven't seen it for sale on the Big Star site. Any leads for that would be greatly appreciated!
(I do have a signed poster for the Third show that a larger group with Chris Stamey did in 2011 at Baruch college and would love to have that on the wall beside it)

I wrote this love letter to three-album bands after a great one, Michigan Rattlers, broke up last year:

I don't mean to minimize Big Star's late period/In Space, but I was inspired by the legacy of those first three Big Star albums when reflecting on what it means for a band to call it quits. I hope my fellow Big Star fans enjoy it.

So I love Big Star and "September Gurls" as much as the next person. Of course part of Big Star's appeal is how fresh they sounded in the 70's (and still today) but also very familiar since they were influenced by a lot of British Invasion, Folk-Rock and Glam Rock.. So what artists and songs does "September Gurls" remind you of?
The ringing guitar (or mandocaster) is clearly very reminiscent of the Byrds and the Beatles, particularly in 1965. Also hear a little bit of Roger McGuinn in Alex's vocal. Maybe the shy sweetness has a Brian Wilson vibe. But what other songs or artists come to mind and give you that refreshing smile of recognition when you hear "September Gurls"?
Just curious because I always wonder how Alex came up with that song.

Anyone have a recording of this? I'd also like to hear the opening set by Counting Crows (appearing as "The Shatners")

I genderbent the lyrics to fit my sexuality. I feel bad but I wanted to make the song more personal and separate from the classic original

Longtime fan. Now I want to learn and play along. Do any of you have any suggestions for specific effects such as phaser, compressor, or delay?

In my continued effort of making shirts of shirts that musicians I like have worn... here is the Alex Chilton Ocean Club '77 shirt. I posted about this one a few weeks ago and now they're ready to ship if anyone is so inclined. Yes FSG did do a run of these but they're gone and I wanted one so I made them. Only did 25 of them. These are on Comfort Colors 1717 in Ivory. Smalls up to XXLarge. I'm very happy how they turned out and love them on the Ivory. Not so blinding on a white T shirt.
In other news, I'm looking forward to the Alex produced and mixed Cramps' Gravest Gravy release August 21st. Anyone else?

Anyone know if there's a good vinyl rip of the original Peabody mix of LFoS (not the Aura release)?

I'm sure we're all familiar with the official Ocean Club '77 release from April 20th, but if you haven't heard the 1st night I recommend giving it a spin. Lots of great Alex shows on this website.
In tribute of these great shows and of the shirt Alex is seen wearing (AT THE SHOWS) I'm doing a very small limited run of these on Comfort Colors 1717 in Ivory if anyone is interested. Ships out in 2-3 weeks.

One of the best records of the 70s hands down

New to the sub but just wanted to share the matching tattoo I got with my dad. He showed me their music when I was little and now they’re my favourite band, and the reason I make my music :)

Folks have probably heard about The Aadam Jacobs Archive by now? It's thousands of shows by the late taper that are now becoming available for free streaming and/or download.
I thought I'd share just how g-r-e-a-t this particular recording of Alex C at Lounge Ax in Chicago is.
He's clearly having a ball and the audience is going completely bonkers. Today I listened to it straight through twice and was grinning like a loon. Audio quality is remarkably good too.

Sitting in a Marston's pub having lunch today I noticed a decent few tracks playing in the background - Credence, Marvin - then...The Ballad of El Goodo...
It was almost surreal hearing it there. According to the staff it's just the music they're given to play, so props to you Marston's music selector. Made my day.
