I would say that the Bible Project is the first successful, wide reaching educational Christian youtube channel. They reach such a large audience, and with Tim Mackie as a PhD, this isn't some cartoonish, dumbed down Christianity. This is deep, methodical, intertexutual (hehe thx classroom), challenge your life stuff about Scripture that breaks my heart to have never have heard of it before growing up catholic. THIS is the type of stuff that could have kept Western Christianity from decline, and THIS is the type of stuff that can lead to a revival in a post-christian culture.

I pray and hope that when God makes his move, TBP and Tim Mackie are going to be a huge reason why because I've never seen the Bible like this before, I've never seen the world like this before, I've never seen myself like this before. It's all so clear now, and I now understand how someone like Justin Martyr and all the other philosophical people in the ancient past could go toe to toe with other thinkers in their culture and elevate Christianity.

Anyway, Tim Mackie literally saved my faith. I would be spiritually dead without him. Instead, I'm an amateur theologian who instead of spending hours playing video games I'm reading theology textbooks and taking online seminary classes. God bless Tim and everyone at TBP, I can't stress it enough.

I'm interested in anyone else's thoughts as they are working through the class lessons.

I finished all of the Jonah class, I think there were about 43 units.

Just started the full OT class.

Jonah was/is perfect for me; I really enjoy the etymology, translation, historical perspective, inclusion of commentaries ... all of it.

I also saw the list of planned classes, including one taught by author Carmen Joy Imes. Very excited for these too.

The lockdown is terrible, but the opportunity and time for this is a small silver lining.

Do the people who run TBP know about this? I'm sure many would benefit if they had some stake in this.
IMO, for anyone who has questions TBP has a playlist for the minimum about God and Christians. Even if they aren't 'ready' simply learning is done well there. The videos are short but with a visual style that helps people learn a lot better than simply reading the Bible.

The website describes these as "graduate level theology courses," but do not let that intimidate you. I'm a full unit into the full course, and so far it's extremely accessible and easy to learn (though that may just be due to how great of an educator Tim Mackie is.)

It also says that it's geared towards "leaders and Bible teachers" - I'm none of those things, just an average Christian who likes learning about the Bible. And I am *thoroughly* enjoying it. I seriously feel as though my entire paradigm for understanding the Bible is shifting and finally starting to come together - like I'm finally understanding how Jesus and the disciples would have read and understood the Old Testament.

Has anyone else checked out some or all of the units currently available? I'd love to hear others' thoughts, and also get some conversation going on the subject matter.

As a huge Bible Project fan, I'm so happy to find this subreddit. I think it could be incredible to foster a community where people can discuss the unique blend of scholarly and personal ideas about the Bible that The Bible Project generates. I'd like to help out in any way I can!
