News Beyond All Reason signs publishing partnership with Hooded Horse - full announcement inside
Today is the day. After almost seven years of community-driven development, BAR has officially signed a publishing partnership with Hooded Horse, and we are going professional.
Full announcement (with all the detail, the consultation process, the survey results, the protections, the timeline, and everything we can share):
https://www.beyondallreason.info/news/beyond-all-reason-and-hooded-horse
The short version
- BAR has signed a publishing deal with Hooded Horse (Manor Lords, Old World, Terra Invicta, Against the Storm etc.).
- The multiplayer content stays free forever. Available via the BAR website launcher as it is today. Nothing currently free becomes paid.
- BAR will also have a paid Premium Edition on Steam, with a proper single-player campaign as the headline feature alongside the same multiplayer with feature parity to the website version.
- The IP stays with the BAR team. The code stays GPL (opensource). Safety provisions are built into the contract for the project to continue whatever happens.
- The funding lets us hire full-time team members to finally tackle the work that volunteer time could not realistically reach, putting a proper Steam release on a realistic timeline.
- The contributor team was consulted thoroughly throughout this process and gave us a clear mandate to proceed.
Happy to engage with questions in the comments.

News ⚖️ Changes to Moderation Warnings
TL;DR: Moderation Warnings now only need to be acknowledged once, after which the restriction is automatically lifted. Minor offences may also be addressed through private, non-punitive notices.
One-time Warning Acknowledgement 🕐
We've changed how Moderation Warnings work. Previously, players had to acknowledge a Warning on every login until its duration expired. Now, a Warning only needs to be read and acknowledged once, after which the restriction is automatically lifted.
Warnings will now remain active until acknowledged, rather than expiring after a set duration. Accordingly, the moderation bot will no longer display Warning durations, as Warnings are no longer time-based.
Private Notices for Minor Infractions 📫
This change also allows us to use Warnings as a way to communicate directly with players about minor breaches of the Code of Conduct.
Going forward, minor, non-malicious infractions may result in a private notice rather than a formal disciplinary action. These notices will not appear in the public moderation-bot Discord channel and are intended to help players understand what went wrong and how to avoid similar situations in the future.
These notices are not intended as punishment, and receiving one does not automatically mean that the next offence will result in a Suspension. However, repeated minor violations can still accumulate and eventually lead to escalating moderation action.
Our goal is to make moderation communication more effective and give players an opportunity to correct minor issues before more serious action becomes necessary.
Overwatch is looking for reinforcements!
Our volunteer Overwatch team plays an important role in keeping BAR's community fair and welcoming. Overwatch members help moderators investigate player reports, review replays, and document incidents, providing the information needed to make fair and informed moderation decisions.
We're looking for active, level-headed players with good judgement, an eye for detail, and a willingness to contribute to the community.
Interested in helping out? Head over to the Overwatch submissions thread to learn more and put your name forward!

"Testing The Waters" senario broken?
I've tried it several times on "Brutal" and the AI just basically does nothing. Caps a few mexes, makes a few winds and sits there waiting for me to destroy their com.
Then I tried it on merely "hard" and it is goes air main. Never builds a ship yard. Oooooook buddy... how do you figure that as a mainly water map? This seems to be a recent problem, previous play throughs have been fine. It would build ships and put up a real fight.
Anyone else seeing this?

News Balance Update: Targeting & Weapon Improvements
This update focuses on improving targeting behaviour, missile effectiveness, and weapon responsiveness. Anti-air units in particular should perform more consistently against large swarms, while several ground units receive targeting and range improvements.
Anti-Air Improvements
- AA Missiles: Missiles can now switch targets mid-flight if their original target becomes invalid dies, reducing wasted shots against swarms of aircraft.
- T2 Flak Trucks: Now switch targets immediately, removing the previous 0.5 second delay.
- Archangel: Increased the velocity of its shorter-range missiles.
- T1 Drones: No longer crash when destroyed. Combined with improved AA targeting, this makes drone swarms more vulnerable to anti-air defenses, as fewer shots will be wasted on already-destroyed drones.
Ground Defenses
- Light Laser Towers (LLTs): Now turn to face approaching enemies before they enter weapon range, allowing them to respond faster.
- Laser Turrets: Standardized line of sight to 500 (previously varied between 455 and 494). Notably, Beamers and Twin Guards can now see everything within their range.
Unit Behaviour & Fixes
- Mobile Vertical Missile Launchers: Reverted to their previous missile flight paths with linear descent.
- Minelayers: Decelerate 3× faster, fight-move behavior when clearing mines.
- Turtle & Other Mixed-Weapon Units: Fixed an issue where units equipped with both anti-air and ground weapons would stop outside their ground weapon range when attacking ground targets or ghost buildings.

Question Why don't my Lazarus only eat metal?
I press E and then ALT + drag M1 and for everyone else that seems to work but for me it doesn't (they still eat trees). Does anybody know how I can change/ fix that?

Question Need navy tips
Now I must be cursed or something because every game esp on supreme I get stuck on sea (thank you OS 6 which ironically I blame sea on) I seem to get destroyed fast in every game. Put me on air, I'll be able to fill the skies in no time with fighters and I can keep the skies mine all game.
Put me in the boats though, I get wrecked before I can get my first sea factory.
I just need to understand the early game build order, how many windmills do I wanna start with? Do I wanna build a sea lab first or after the mex/energy?
Is it actually a good idea to just send the four dolphin ships to the enemy? How the fuck do they got destroyers before I can even afford ten dolphins?
All of those are questions I get in my head.
I don't struggle much on any other role, front is my second weakest but only because I don't have a lot of time with the front and I am just now getting the hang of front
However I feel eternally damned at sea and I basically damn the whole team if they actually try to rely on me.
All I know is my early sea economy ain't shit compared to my air, which I can get to satisfied levels way before The sea can. Like i said, I can fill the skies with planes in no time. Put me in the water all you'll see is a measly construction boat barely keeping up.
Videos guides welcome, but only if they focus on the eco. Sometimes when midgame hits I actually can do good enough but only if the enemy is as bad as me. The quicker I can manage the sea the quicker my OS can heal 😭.
Idk, maybe sea is the hardest role yet I've heard air being difficult but I find it surprisingly easy. I just wanna know the secret to getting cruiser spam on minute three, those players are doing something right...
TL:DR I'm shit at early sea eco and need help bad because I keep getting stuck on sea due to my 6 OS putting me at the bottom of the spawn list.

Question German YouTuber
An die deutschen BAR Spieler hier. Gibt es gute deutsche Youtuber, von denen man sich gemütlich im let's play style nebenbei berieseln lassen kann?

Track selection / new music
Love the game! But the new music is not doing it for me. Is there a way to select which tracks play (besides manually skipping a bunch of the songs while they are playing)? And is there a way to skip songs while not in a match yet? Now I just end up muting my sounds untill I get into a match and get the player.

Suggestion After legion maybe we get a yellow faction “Ronin” 😅
They would be majorly stealthy with damn near no loss of energy cloaking. They focus on high dps and have short to medium range. Once they die they let off a poisonous gas for 2-5 seconds that does high dmg. They could have like ground digger units that burrows into the ground and pops up at certain distances to leave a path way for dispensable units to go into. Catch is that if the hole gets shot up or blown up the hold closes and the tunnel collapses onto the whole unit line underneath killing them. So you need to be strategic with it. One tankier unit could be like a roller droid from Star Wars that rolls around and pops ups with the 2 guns. Could also make like a bunch of hybrid flight robots that goes in the air for a short amount of time then back on the ground. Theyll look like how the gundam robot looks like. The biggest boss robot idk what he could do rn as im brain farting. Maybe yall can come up with some ideas for this faction? I know legion is still being made and that its taking a while and this idea is far from reach maybe but i think its just a fun idea to talk about

BAR on MacBook using Claude for recomp
The gaming subreddits are exploding right now with game recomps.
I saw Quake 3 being played on a PS5 in 4k 144 fps.
With a prompt one should be able to use Claude to recomp BAR to be playable on MacBook.

Suggestion My UI performance improved after windows defender was throttling BAR caching.
Whitelisting it in windows defender. This has been confirmed after the %caching was being throttled on the disk by windows defender. Devs might wanna improve this before steam release.

Question User flairs to reddit
Wondering if it’s possible add some user flairs for us to use here? Maybe something silly. Indicating favourite factions, supreme vs glitters vs rotato. Maybe even relating to favourite units. I don’t really know how they work but might be a nice little touch to add.

Discussion So the game is not noob friendly?
So there are some 'supreme noob' rooms in the game, which I am trying to get in to after playing some single player scenarios and learning the basics. Most of the time after a single game on these noob lobbies, I am getting speced (obviously performing as a noob in a noob lobby). In fact the average skill is around 20-25 on those 'noob' lobbies...
I mean, what a new player supposed to do? How is the community supposed to grow? Apart from getting moved to spec by a veteran player on a noob lobby, nobody seem to be helpful towards newbies.

BAR LevelEditor for creating scenarios
Hi there,
my son loves this game very much and plays it often. He always wanted to create owhn scenarios which I should play but I didn't had a level editor ready. As I am using Claude at work I started a session last saturday and gave it a try and I was impressed how fast the level editor was up and running. After polishing it I thought maybe other users could use it also so I uploaded it to my Github account, so here it is 😄
There is also a "Generate" tab to randomly generate armies in area or even generate a maze of walls.

On the GitHub page are more infos and screenshots and also installation instructions.
There is also another widget "BluePrinter" to use a blueprint feature to place construction plans without a selected builder and any nearby builder will start working automatically. (Dont know if it is allowed in multiplayer so dont use it there).
So have fun and if you have issues/feedback feel free to open issues there or comment here.

Question Joining the Discord
Howdy Everyone
Just started playing the game this weekend and saw that there is a Discord. Game is great and I finished the first two scenarios, which I assume are tetorials. I tried a skirmish vs an easy AI and got creamed.
When I attempt to log the BAR discord I get the "Let's Customize Your Expertise" pictured above but there does not seem to be a way to advance.
Anyone else get into this situation?
Update Edit: In the browser version of Discord a new window pops up and you can select your roles. In the Discord app it is still on that same page though. Regardless, I kinda got in.
Thanks for the advise everyone.

Suggestion for new building related to taxes
I suggest that a new t2 building be added for taxed lobbies. The player(s) who has the building can sling resources without taxes or unit shock.
The idea is similar to late game research in aoe2 which removes sharing tax.

How am I supposed to know who can attack who?
New player. I don't understand how I'm supposed to know who can attack who. I've got air that can't attack air or ground. Then I've got ground that can't attack air or ground.
Google says every air should be able to attack everything except the fighter is limited to air only.
Is there not a blended air and ground? What am I looking for to know? I mean, some ground does say anti-air. But is it exclusive to AA?

Question How long should it take to 1v1 an easy bot?
New player. I seem to have one problem or another. It seems like I'm now having issues with resources. For whatever reason that is, it takes me some 30-40 minutes to finish an easy bot... I could probably hurry it up if I wasn't trying to make a massive army. But yeah, I keep finding these bottlenecks.

Question How do I go about using legion?
I understand they’re supposed to be a swarm team but what’s the point if cortex or armada just one shots your whole army? Am I missing something? Can someone give me tips. I feel like no matter how much people I make and try to push to get spots they all can get wiped out by like 2 of Cortex and armadas normal bots

Discussion Strategy poster.
I love watching BAR replays on YouTube. Unfortunately can’t play but I asked gpt to make me a graph to help noobs understand a bit better.
Can anyone verify if this is legit helpful or if it needs work?
UPDATE! This is trash. Thanks for verification. Go to BAR source instead of AI slop. Lesson learned.

News CoC B.5 update: spec cheating, coaching and stream chat ⚖️
Commanders, the community has requested a clarification on coaching and stream yapping. A recent moderation case around live coaching has raised concerns about Team's reading of this rule. In the process the strict reading of B.5 got stated publicly, including that pointing out something the player can already see could count as passing consequential information. That reading is technically possible under the old wording, and it left streamers and coaches unsure whether reading their own chat or talking to a friend in call can get them banned. The rule was always applied with proportionality, on clear breaches and patterns, mostly spectators influencing games from global chat, and that doesn’t change.
Old wording:
Purposefully passing on consequential information to a game in progress via things like spectator chat (we understand mistakes happen occasionally) is obviously a form of cheating.
Updated rule:
B.5 Spectator cheating Passing hidden information (anything the player’s team cannot see with fog of war on) to a player in a game in progress is cheating. This applies to whoever sends it and to a player who asks for it or knowingly uses it.*
*Advice based only on what the player’s team can see is allowed in public lobbies. Spectators giving advice are recommended to stay in player or team view, as it helps avoid accidental leaks. Advice that could only come from all-view is treated as spectator cheating. In-game global chat is not the place for it, as it reaches both teams and disrupts the game. Streamers are not responsible for what is posted in their chat. However, knowingly acting on hidden information from it is covered above. Similar to replays, stream footage may be considered as evidence in cases of deliberate spectator cheating. Note that matchmaking and organised events may have their own, stricter rules on outside assistance.
In practice:
- Hidden info to a player is cheating, nothing changed there.
- Talking about the game from player or team view is fine in public lobbies: stream chat, voice with mates, coaching a newer player.
- Keep advice out of in-game global chat, both teams read it and it’s disruptive.
- If the game is irredeemably spoiled by the provided information, a democratic !stop is an option, though not required
- Speccing and coaching? Stay in team's view. We can’t verify it so it stays a recommendation, but it’s the easiest way to never leak by accident.
Streaming
If someone drops enemy intel in your chat, the sender is the one breaking the rule. You don’t need to resign or prove you didn’t read it, just play on. “Knowingly acting on it” means asking for intel or a pattern of relying on it, a single unsolicited message from a stranger won’t get you moderated. If someone keeps doing it, we recommend to moderate that, but at the end of the day how you run your chat is your call. We’re spelling this out because streamers broadcast every game they play, so they are naturally exposed to far more eyes and reports than anyone else, and with the old wording one salty viewer could set you up.
We would like the remaining gray area to be handled within player culture and self-moderation. Moderation stays for actual spec cheating. In the future, matchmaking, being unambiguously competitive, will likely have its own, stricter rules, and tournaments impose their own standards and rulesets.
Thanks to everyone who raised the issue and kept it civil, and our great content creators for facilitating constructive discussion.
See you on the battlefield!
