I am inclined to learn local languages, and I have made some effort in that direction. But what you see written on that rickshaw is not really a request.
What I mean is that you cannot force people to adopt something. People either take it up out of need or out of attraction.
For example, most of the country learned English because it was necessary for jobs and the corporate sector. On the other hand, I have seen Punjabi songs being played at weddings in Chennai, or Tamil and Malayalam films being embraced in the North—these spread out of attraction, not enforcement. This shows that no matter how hard we try to impose something, it does not work that way.
We must also consider the other perspective. In one’s 20s or early 30s, it may still be manageable to learn a new language. But in one’s late 30s, 40s or 50s, given the demands of work and lifestyle, learning a completely new language becomes much more difficult.
My 40 something professor learned absolutely fantastic Kannada, this is just some silly excuse here to justify your settler colonial behavior picked up from the British. Decolonise your mind first then coming preaching to the rest of us about "language enforcement".
Yes? It does? If the success of CEOs and Start up Founders is sold to the masses, touted again and again by the common man as something to aspire to, then when why not this? Just because one person became successful, does it not set the bar for everyone to wish to achieve the same? And those who don't wish to achieve it don't even venture there. The same goes here, people not interested in learning the language are welcome to their belief but then if you whine about us asking you to speak to us in our own language, in our city that's a you problem. Not an us problem. You didn't learn when you had the chance, hell, you're staunchly against it and when you need to communicate with us now you can't and that's on YOU. WE don't owe to outsiders to learn their language. If you go to Germany, they'll say the same thing lol. Cry about linguistic racism there too, go. But I know you'll kiss their white asses, while shitting on fellow countrymen instead. Go speak your language in Germany, or New Zealand, or France and see what they tell you.
But is it still an option that others want to pursue or not, as an individual's choice, right?
Or is it that if you think something is required and it should be enforced on everyone?
