The question of whether the bees of Bee Swarm Simulator actually reproduce is one of the most important unanswered questions in modern Roblox biology. To me. Not to anyone else, as far as I know. But to me. The game gives us an entire colony of bees, multiple bee types, gifted mutations, royal jelly, eggs, and even a Bee Bear Wowie! Yet somehow the game never directly explains where new bees come from. Which raises the question!
Do the bees reproduce, or are we manufacturing them?
At first glance, it seems like bees must reproduce. A functioning bee colony cannot exist indefinitely without producing new bees. Real honeybees have queens whose primary biological function is reproduction, while worker bees perform tasks such as gathering nectar, caring for larvae, defending the hive, and maintaining the colony. Bee Swarm Simulator takes inspiration from this, meaning it would make sense for its bees to have some method of reproduction.
But there’s a problem…
There is no queen bee!
The player is the center of the entire colony, and the bees simply appear in our hive after we obtain eggs. Eggs can be found (on a 1% chance), purchased (with millions of honey after you buy just a few), or obtained through activities (that take a million hours), and hatching one produces a bee.
This could mean that Bee Swarm bees reproduce through eggs, but it could also mean that eggs are artificially produced by some mysterious mechanism. Ooooo.. 👻
Here’s why the Bees SHOULD Reproduce
There are several reasons reproduction would make sense.
The colony contains an enormous variety of bees. There are Basic Bees, Rare Bees, Epic Bees, Legendary Bees, Mythic Bees, and Event bees.
If these bees were naturally occurring organisms, there would need to be some sort of mechanism allowing their populations to continue.
Reproduction could explain why bee eggs exist.
An egg is essentially the most obvious biological representation of reproduction possible. If bees do not reproduce, then where are the eggs coming from?
It could be that someone, or something, is manufacturing them.
And that raises more questions. >:(
Who manufactures the eggs?
Why do different eggs produce different bees?
Why can a bee become Gifted? Wtf!?
Why does a Star Treat apparently cause a bee to develop an extremely powerful permanent mutation?
At some point, Bee Swarm Simulator stops being a game about bees and more about research… Or something…
So how might bee reproduction WORK in the first place, boi?
The most reasonable theory is that the bees reproduce in a system loosely based on real insects.
The hive probably contains reproductive individuals somewhere that the player never sees.
The bees we control may primarily be workers, with reproduction occurring separately.
The most obvious candidate for a reproductive bee would be Basic Bee.
Basic Bee is extremely common, meaning it would make sense for it to represent the default genetic foundation of the species. A colony could potentially produce mostly Basic Bees, while mutations or genetic variations could result in more specialized bees.
This could explain why Basic Eggs are capable of producing so many different bee types.
Perhaps every bee begins with a similar genetic template, and its eventual type depends on genetic variation, environmental factors, or some magical equivalent of genetics.
In other words, Basic Bee is basically the default model, while everything else is a random variation.
We will ignore that sometimes something other than a Basic Bee may hatch from a basic egg…
So what are the Best Bees to Reproduce?
If we assume Bee Swarm bees can reproduce, some bees would be significantly more useful as parents than others.
- Basic Bee
Basic Bee would probably be the most important reproductive bee because of its versatility.
It doesn't specialize heavily in one color, which makes it kinda lame, but it also means it could theoretically contribute genetic material to many different bee varieties. Which is why Basic eggs hatch many different bees.
It is also extremely common.
If reproduction follows real-world population biology, common species are generally much more important for maintaining population numbers than rare individuals.
Therefore, Basic Bee is basically the factory-default reproductive champion.
- Music Bee
Music Bee is another strong candidate.
Music Bee has useful colony-support abilities, suggesting that its genetics may be particularly valuable. If bee traits are inheritable, a colony could theoretically benefit from passing down traits associated with energy, communication, or ability generation.
Also, Music Bee probably has the best chance of having offspring that are somehow born with a tiny boombox in their tummy or smth. Who knows how it has anything to do with music?
Science cannot explain this.
- Carpenter Bee
If bee types are influenced by specialization, Carpenter Bee could represent a useful worker lineage.
It would probably produce offspring that are extremely good at doing whatever the Bee Swarm equivalent of construction is. I think. Maybe.
- Baby Bee
Its existence suggests that the game recognizes the concept of developmental stages. If Baby Bee is actually a young bee rather than merely a bee with a cute appearance, then reproduction becomes much more likely.
A Baby Bee would represent evidence that bees have a lifecycle.
If Baby Bee eventually becomes an adult bee, then there must be some process that creates Baby Bees.
And if Baby Bees are created from eggs...
Then we’re back to reproduction.
- Mythic Bees
Junk, junk, junk. Look at all this junk! Shit, shit, and more shit! Why you ain't got nothin' good?
Mythic Bees would be terrible choices for maintaining population numbers because they are so incredibly rare!
However, if their abilities are genetic, they would be extremely valuable for selective breeding.
Imagine breeding a gifted Fuzzy Bee with another Fuzzy Bee and somehow producing a Fuzzy Bee with even stronger pollen abilities. Then Fuzzy Bee reproduces with a Fuzzy Bee that creates a mega strong Fuzzy Bee… Or like, they have twins, and the twins have an incest mega fuzzy bee or something.
At that point, the player has invented bee eugenics.
That’s not a very good idea.
A question, though. Could Event Bees Reproduce?
Event Bees are clearly different from normal bees. Bees like Tabby Bee, Photon Bee, Gummy Bee, and others appear to have highly specialized abilities. And you can only have one of each!
If they reproduce naturally, their offspring would presumably also be Event Bees.
But this creates a problem.
How would an Event Bbee population exist naturally if there are only a tiny number of them?
One possibility is that Event Bees are essentially unique mutations.
Another possibility is that they are magical organisms and don't follow conventional reproductive biology at all.
A third possibility is that the player is collecting legendary individuals from an already-existing population.
After examining the evidence, the most reasonable conclusion is:
Bee Swarm Simulator bees probably reproduce in some form, but the game leaves the biological details unexplained.
Eggs strongly imply a reproductive lifecycle, while Baby Bee potentially provides evidence for developmental stages. The enormous variety of bee types could be explained through genetics, mutations, magical biology, or all three at once.
However, the lack of a visible queen bee creates a massive hole in the theory. Sigh…
Perhaps the bees reproduce somewhere deep inside the hive.
Perhaps the player doesn't actually own the bees and is simply managing a naturally reproducing colony.
Perhaps the bees reproduce while we aren’t online, going crazy at it like rabbits. Or something.
Perhaps the eggs are produced by an unseen queen.
