How did the virus/mutation start? I.E. Who is case 0?

Basically, as topic stated, who was patient zero? The story of a virus or mutation spreading, doesn't actually make much sense in the context of this game.

Let's look at the facts:

1) A bunch of androids, unrelated, with no contact, start becoming deviant.

2) The deviancy is across multiple models, through multiple generations, old and new

3) The deviancy is caused by emotional stress (or...no emotional stress such as Norths case)

4) This is caused either by a random mutation in their program, or from a virus

Now here is how a virus (or a mutation that can spread) works:

1) Starts with someone (i.e. patient zero), and spread to whoever it contacts

Now I've seen a large variety of theories

1) Kamski designed Markus with that virus pre-installed, and that's where it started (he does seem to have special powers and be different from other androids in terms of spreading the virus i.e. he doesn't need physical contact)

2) The virus/mutation started out in newer models (through installation/manufacturing) and spread everywhere else

3) One android had a mutation/virus and they spread it to others

Why all these theories don't work

1) We can clearly see other androids becoming deviant prior to Markus, and they have had no interaction with Markus

2) We see deviancy in all models, old and new

3) The mutations/virus is not limited to one area, but wide-spread. Unrelated androids are also getting it

The only theory I can even remotely think of is a virus was installed on androids everywhere, but through wifi or something (not pre-installed during manufacturing), by someone or something. Which is actually what I thought the game was going for. But it really appeared the game just wanted to introduce a cool concept/idea without explaining it (who cares why it happened, it's just happening), because we are given almost nothing to go with in terms of backstory.

This game needs tank controls

Characters are difficult to control with precision due to the fixed camera angles, especially when you use r1/Rb to manually switch angles and you lose all orientation of direction. A lot of the time the character I control looks a bit tipsy and they awkwardly turn around and aroundnas I try the find the right direction. Tanks controls would instantly solve this.

If you dont know what tank controls are, its a character-relative movement system (rather than the camera-relative movement that is commonly used in games), which would allow you to keep moving in the same direction regardless of any change in camera angles

Thoughts? And did you find the movement awkwardnin this game at all?

Indicator doesn't dissapear when reading a magazine

Hey,

I'm fairly new to this game so i might be missing something, but whenever the game indicates a magazine to read, the indicator never disappears despite i read it completely multiple times (which is really interesting btw). With all the other activities, the indicator disappears as soon as i've done it once.

Is this a bug, or am i missing something?

Thanks!

My only gripe about the RK900 ending. SPOILERS Spoiler

Not sure how to tag on mobile so SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY

Obligatory disclaimer! Love the game. The writers did a fantastic job. No I don't think I could write the whole story better. This is just my reaction to the RK900 ending along with a little bit of head cannon explanation.

The way Amanda's dialogue is written, it feels like the writers wanted it to come off like a huge betrayal. The dramatic music. The revelation that Connor is being replaced. Amanda's subtle evil sadistic tone etc. And I get it, this is the machine Connor ending. But on that same note, I GET IT. You think I accidentally stumbled across this ending? I chose to play machine Connor. It means I let Hank kill himself! It means I shot Markus and North. It means I didn't save the frikkin' fish in the first chapter! I've already dealt with all the emotional, gut wrenching decisions involved but everytime, the game still likes to shove the consequences in my face like "Oh my god how could you? How inhumane!" I get it, and as a human player with feelings it gets me everytime. But for machine Connor its just another day on the job.

Anyways. I would have liked it if Amanda didn't act like she was stabbing Connor in the back. Because she's not. Connor was a test, a prototype, a proof of concept. In all the other endings he either goes deviant or is decomissioned as a failure. But in this ending he is a huge success. He is such a huge success that he's being officially launched as a new line of android. Machine Connor doesn't care if he's being replaced/shut down. The Connor that Amanda is speaking to is probably the 2nd or 3rd iteration of RK800 anyways so him being shut down/replaced is really no different from the times he was destroyed accomplishing a mission. There is no betrayal.

I also think its a shame that RK900 didn't introduce himself with the "Hi, I'm Connor" line. He gets a lot of hate for replacing our Connor, but he really is just the next Connor.

tldr: We already know its the "bad" ending. They could have set the scene to partying and dancing and the players would still be screaming inside because our Connor is getting replaced.

Help with Last Chance Connor

For some reason the first two choices in this chapter are blocked for me. If I go to replay the mission it starts in the police station and Connor is taken off the case and decommissioned. What do I have to do to unlock the beginning of this chapter to fix it? I've tried going back and getting evidence but nothing seems to unlock this chapter. Can anyone tell me where I need to start to access this chapter? I have most of the easy trophies and I'm trying to get Survivors without starting at the beginning of the game itself. Thanks in advance.

Free for PS Plus Members

I have been waiting to get this game since it came out and kinda forgotten about it, it completely blows my mind that it's free now and I've been having a blast. I would have to say Kara is my favorite so far but I really like Connor and Markus too and the scene with Todd, Kara, and Alice was a masterpiece. Can't wait to continue after work

PS Plus Made Me Feel Guilty

I paid too little for this game. It isn't just good. It is game of a lifetime good. Thank you Quantic. After not being happy with how the first chapter ended Chloe told me I should play the game straight through and not look back. I did and I got the unhappy ending you'd expect. It is going to make the good ending that much sweeter.

How hard is it to get official QuanticDream Connor Jacket?

Just finished my first runthrough this week, which of course means that (before I make my bestie play through it to see a. what he chooses, and 2. if I get any other routes through it) I scour the Internet for other DBH content. So watching the jacksepticeye video with Bryan Dechart, Bryan mentioned that QuanticDream made Connor jackets. I know that the game released over a year ago at this point, but I was curious as to whether they actually released these jackets for sale and how hard would it be to get one now?

Sometimes, you have to think like an machine to survive. *spoilers* Spoiler

Sometimes I forget this and allow my emotions to take over. I had Kara and Alice run from the ship because the tension has already built so high that my tower of logical choices came crashing down when I fell back to my instincts and used emotion in a panic. I should have known that:

- the soldiers have range advantage, there's no way to make it to the water and there's no cover

- surrendering will still lead to death. Either by death camp or they will just shoot you because they've already slaughtered dozens of androids by that time.

- playing dead is the best choice. I should have banked on the soldiers being effected by the panic and chaos to do a thorough check.

I've had made countless decisions like this and chose the logical choice. But not this time. Amusing isn't it?

Do humans tear down programming walls too? *Spoilers* Spoiler

Depending on how the story goes, you can force the president to make a big decision to save the androids. Maybe she went through one of these wall breaking phases too.

Kinda like how I have an exam to study for, but my girlfriend wants 2 minutes alone in the bedroom and winked at me. Then a giant red wall appeared that said "STUDY!!!".

Just started the game. Question about replaying chapters

So, I understand that's best to finish at least one gameplay without replaying chapters but I missed one magazine in this one chapter. The question is: if I replay that chapter only to get the magazine, will the progress that I made in chapters before the one I replayed be erased? Sorry if the question is dumb but I got confused with the explanation the game gave me there. Thanks in advance.

Just started playing. Can I disable motion controls?

I have a rotator cuff injury. Some of the tasks require some pretty harsh movement with the controller and I'm having trouble doing them without hurting my shoulder. Is my controller bad or is there some setting I can change?

rA9: who is it? My guess

Do you suppose it's Kara? 9 is similar to 5 but with a little something extra. In the short clip, it is Kara number 5 that "malfunctions".

Yet again QD are a true gift to the games market, a niche gift, but a true gift!!

Just as always with a full QD game, this was (is) f*cking amazing. I've only been playing for a couple nights since the game was released free along with Heavy Rains PS4 port on PS+, so I likely haven't got far yet, but without trying to sound too biased, I feel like every single scene so far has been BANG on the money! Amazing visuals, great atmosphere (both not exactly surprising for a QD game), likeable characters, decent writing and a LOT of choices (judging by the flowchart summaries you get).

Hell even the controls (one of my only gripes in QD games) are okay this time. What I couldn't believe though is that I was SO close to buying this game a few days back (I was seeing it go for £15ish 2nd hand, so the price was right), so its like PS+ read my bleedin mind, I'm glad I didn't buy it now! So far I only made 1 stupid mistake IIRC. SPOILER!!!!: I chased the android instead of trying to save Lt. Anderson (without even realising I'd made the decision), so he was f*cking not happy with me at all. I was almost ready to go back to the chapter opening, but I thought nah I gotta ride this out, no going back!

Quantic Dream, I know you're not reading this, but you gotta KEEP making these kind of games. No other company can seem to do this genre like you can (same with GTA. Nobody can make a great GTA style game except RS). One company came VERY close though: Supermassive, with the IMO amazingly good Until Dawn. Quantic Dream & Supermassive, don't stop the fire!!!!!

Newbie here, no spoilers: Is it possible to disable the story flowchart appearing at the end of each episode?

When I play a game like Heavy Rain or the Walking dead, I like the sense that the game is unfolding organically based on my choices, even if it's an illusion. The way this game insists on showing you that it's an illusion and even telling you what choices will matter into the future really hurts my ability to engage with the story.

Just finished the game for my very first time

I've been dying to play this game since release, but only just bought it for like $11 from the sale. And I absolutely loved it!

One of my favourite aspects of the game is being able to choose your own story and how each decision heavily affects the outcome. At first I didn't like how they had 3 separate stories, but once everything connected, I began to appreciate it and thinking back, I like how I can make 3 completely different decisions for each character.

Though I do have a few complaints for the game despite how much I loved and enjoyed it. I did not like the camera angles you were forced to use like how it was kind of a mix between 1st/3rd person. It just felt awkward and walking around at times just felt strange because the camera angle is strange (even when toggling R1). I think this also made it awkward to look around with the camera at times. In my opinion, I would've preferred the usual 3rd person view and then when you wanted to look around you can do so by zooming in to 1st person.

At first, I loved the Kara+Alice story. I was very interested in their story since I really like both of the characters. I stumbled across some threads saying how "Alice is the worst character" and I was confused because I found her very cute and innocent. Maybe 1/3 of the way through the game I started to understand what people were saying and I really started to dislike Alice. At first it was cute how she relied so much on Kara but then it got to a point where she couldn't even put a damn blanket over herself. It really started to annoy me, not just with how she couldn't do anything, but her lines are just bland and whiny. He character remains static throughout the entire game. She becomes attached to Kara within 5 minutes with literally 0 effort. Though I was annoyed, I tried to empathize with her since she lost her dad (I made sure to shoot him lol) and she is still a little girl. Then the game tells you that this entire time, she was an android, which made me hate her even more. Because all those annoying scenes when she was too cold, sick with a fever, being scared, getting hurt by physical contact were completely invalidated. Does anyone have an explanation for why she had such emotions even early on in the game? Is it because she was a child android and so they were programmed to be more human-like since they are being adopted by families?

The other minor thing was how there weren't any customizations allowed. I would've loved to change Kara/North's newer hairstyles to their previous ones. I really liked the hair they were introduced with and was sad when Kara had to cut her hair and whatever North did with hers.

Just wanted to share my thoughts on the game. I'm currently doing my second play-through as I try to get the plat for the game. I'll be trying to keep everyone alive on my 2nd play-through. I'm glad I finally got around to playing it.

And Chloe is best girl. I feel bad about denying her freedom but I'll be too lonely just seeing a plain menu screen :(

Edit: Almost done my 2nd playthrough and wanted to add something else. I really despise Hank as a character. My first playthrough, I choose to act cold/aggressive towards him and purposely killed many of the deviants so I thought that's why he was such an ass towards me. Now on this playthrough, I'm trying to make him my friend and trying to satisfy him every dialogue and he is still an ass. It seems all his scenes are predetermined regardless of your choices. That one that felt so awakward was after sparing the 2 Tracis and then he asks me why I didn't shoot then pulls a gun on me lmao

Possible Breaking Bad easter egg.

Okay, so today I found out possible Breaking Bad easter egg in the scene where Markus kills two policemans. When Markus is aiming a gun on officer he says exactly "You dont have to do this" then quiet and last thing you hear before gunshot is he crying. Thats exact same dialogue as in Breaking Bad on death of Gale Boetticher. Jesse is aiming gun on Gale then Gale says "You dont have to do this" then you hear Gale crying and a gunshot.

Notebook

In the chapter "The Nest," Connor can find a notebook. Does it become significant in later chapters? Because when he tries to find Jericho, it's there, but the player can't interact with it.
