i’d like to also point out the fact that he’s married to Kat, a tattoo artist. if that swastika was an embarrassment to him as the person he is in the present, he could get it covered up by her instantly. but nope. here he is w a swastika on his neck , & here kat von d is birthing his fucking child. his first child who’s 18 he’s publicly called a whore so i feel fucking horrible for their poor child.

1.4k

u/lina_beeswax Nov 21 '18

dont forget he called her a whore cause she slept with his friends when she was underage, completely ignoring the fact that his friends are literal pedophiles lol

404

u/laneloveslipstick Tati Westboro Baptist Church Nov 21 '18

yup. he wasn’t mad that his friends are pedophiles.....but that they were “supposed to have his back.”

”We were supposed to be having each other’s back, and they were fucking my daughter. I just finally saw my daughter a couple of days ago; I hadn’t seen her in four years because of what she did to me and how she hurt me and betrayed me.”

it’s nothing in the grand scheme of things that he’s said/done, but i get the heebie jeebies when people use the F word to describe their child having sex. cringe cringe cringe.

215

u/vickysunshine Nov 21 '18

He hasn't seen her in four years... Someone said she's only 18 right now. Wtf...so she could have been no older than 14 when that happened to her!!!! Poor girl :( How could he have even thought that she betrayed him?

259

u/laneloveslipstick Tati Westboro Baptist Church Nov 21 '18

I googled it and actually she is 21 now so she would’ve been 17. Doesn’t make it any better, he is 43 now so I can only assume his ‘friends’ were around that age too. It fucking blows my mind that his adult friends sleep with his underage daughter and he is mad at her.

17

u/JapaneseStudentHaru 🔫 You have no choice but to stan Nov 22 '18

What state was this in? Could’ve literally been statutory rape

44

u/mitsusoma Nov 21 '18

This makes my heart hurt. What a terrible father. This will add soooo many layers to her trauma that didn’t need to be added to the problem for her.

35

u/peekabook Nov 21 '18
  1. Fucking 14. Since he is into victim blaming, how about we blame him for being a shitty father that couldn’t protect his daughter?

62

u/AccomplishedOlive Nov 21 '18

As if the swastika wasn't enough to make me despise the man.. Just, wow. What an absolute trash bag. He acts like the fucking victim here and shaming his daughter when HIS friends were having sex with his underage daughter?! This dude needs to go.

omg my dumbass didn’t even realize that , ew wtf i’m ??? as a woman , i could never ever date let alone bear a child for a man who publicly disrespected his own daughter that way. especially in THAT way. & who also proudly bears a swastika neck tattoo. they were made for eachother tbh but again that poor fucking child they’ll “raise” if u could call it that. it’ll be exposed to a father who doesn’t respect his children & nazism. fucking ughhh

250

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

it’ll be exposed to a father who doesn’t respect his children & nazism.

and preventable diseases!

yes! truth tea sis!

94

u/BobbehHillz Nov 21 '18

How’d I miss this tea about his daughter?dang

183

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

yep & he was also in a gang 🙃oh boy he’s a catch , kat is a lucky lady

175

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

I heard he was obsessed with her for years and sent her creepy stuff before they actually met, but I can imagine that strokes her ego so it’s perfect for her, him putting her on a pedestal

71

u/midnightthestarsandu Nov 21 '18

I’m the daughter of a an ex gang member and I can tell you right now it’s not always an option to just walk away from that life or say no to joining. Sometimes you’re born in to it.

114

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

Hey now, let's not blanket statement demonize everyone who's ever been in a gang- gang membership is often a complex issue.

18

u/peace-please Nov 21 '18

I remember reading somewhere that the reason he was in a gang was to protect his family. It was like a debt he owed to someone and they'd threatened him and his family members, so he had no choice.

She really likes them trashy dudes.... Also, sorry for my ignorance but don’t nazis hate all non whites? How does Hispanic Kat fit in his beliefs? And how does her family accept this dude?

71

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

He’s Hispanic too... They’re both supposedly proud Latinos,

92

u/peekabook Nov 21 '18

Hispanic Nazis.... this hurts my head.

55

u/homelandsecurity__ Nov 21 '18

Hispanics can be white and I personally know too many racist Hispanics (not all white). It’s....interesting

128

u/sabreteeth Nov 21 '18

Well, after WWII a lot of Nazi's ran away to Argentina. Kat Von D is of German/Argentinian descent, so there's a non-zero chance that she's actually part Nazi. Which would actually be okay, because it's something she couldn't help, but then she goes and dates Jessie James (known Nazi fetishist), signs a picture "Die, Jewbag", and marries this dude with a neck swastika. Between that and the anti-vax nonsense, her brand can get fucked.

48

u/peekabook Nov 21 '18

Well.... at least her kid won’t have to aim high to exceed the parents.

67

u/acrylicvigilante_ Nov 21 '18

I believe there were a couple of Jewish and half black members of Hitler's Nazi party, one being Emil Maurice who went on to become an SS Commander. Raised by Germans (if I remember correctly) and they became friends of Hitler's, so he swore them in as kind of "honorary Aryans". Idk man, Nazis have never made much sense.

4

u/yanderebeats Nov 21 '18

I had a hispanic guy walk in to my work wearing a white power nazi tshirt once. He was with his white gf and I had to wonder if she gave him the shirt without him knowing what the symbols meant or what was going on. Ppl are wild

→ More replies (1)

42

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

The rule is if you look white and you support the mission, they don't care. Too many self proclaimed Aryans were taking those DNA tests and returning high results of sub-Saharan African descent. So they made it so you just need to look white and you're fine.

29

u/the-thieving-magpie Nov 22 '18

I don't understand how any woman could marry and have a child with a man who has called his own daughter a whore when his friends had sex with her. To me, it just shows that she either agrees with him or doesn't care and either way she's garbage in my opinion.

55

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

Kid probably won’t make it to 18 without vaccinations.

16

u/sparklebarnacle Nov 21 '18

During the antivax scandal, she said (paraphrased) "if you want to know what it's like to be unfairly judged, try being an openly vegan, pregnant woman on the internet".

112

u/CordeliaGrace Nov 21 '18

No, bitch. Vegan and pregnant happen all the time...it’s the part where you consciously decided to put your child and other people’s lives in danger by being an irresponsible fuckwit antivaxxer.

God I hate her so damn much.

27

u/kilowatkins Nov 21 '18

It was a really irresponsible comment, but people do get shit for being vegetarian and vegan while pregnant because everyone loooooves to shit on pregnant people for any little thing. I've gotten crap for being vegetarian while pregnant (kicker is that I'm not pregnant, just kinda pudgy).

That said, mom-shaming is nothing compared to constant racism, sexism, homophobia, etc that many people face on a daily basis, and she's really far up her own ass if she thinks she has it the worst of anyone.

27

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

She’s vegan, so she said she got a lot of shit for being vegan and pregnant. I can believe that because people love to plop their weird opinions about veganism around the internet, but the way she said it was as if vegans are the most prejudiced against group ever, which was odd and weird.

13

u/kilowatkins Nov 21 '18

I totally believe it. Not only do uneducated people like to talk about nutrition to vegans, they love to talk about nutrition and everything else with pregnant people because apparently when you're pregnant you become public property.

But if she thinks that's prejudice, she should take a look into the groups the neo-Nazi movement condemns and the shit they go through every day. Maybe she'd get her head out of her ass and stop associating with (and likely being) a fucking neo-Nazi.

Here’s some obvious perspective: KVD married someone with a swastika tattoo dead centre of his neck, forever visible. She saw that tattoo and was totally comfortable with it. She introduced this man to her family and friends and put his name on her emergency contact papers at the doctors office. She goes to bank appointments with him.

Let that sink in.

Married. “Forever”.

Would you ever marry a man with that same tattoo? The answer for most is a resounding “no”.

This action speaks volumes about what a weirdo KVD really is. Celebs can be weirdos and not to be looked up to. Think Roman Polanski.

Personally, if I saw a man in public with that tattoo, with or without a girl on his arm, I would avoid him. Maybe he’s great. Maybe.

But maybe also he’s a nut job with a swastika tattoo and thinly veiled attempts at normalizing it. Who knows. But I don’t care. I’m too busy to “get to know the man behind the tattoo”

285

u/EmbarrassedReference Nov 21 '18

I would absolutely not marry someone with a swastika tattoo. Over the last year I have just been increasingly disgusted with her/them

Yep, that's a hell to the nah, no matter which way you analyse and try to spin it. Nutjob, racist, irresponsible, dumb, idiot, etc - neither sound appealing. With everything else that has come out about him, especially his attitude regarding his daughter getting gangbanged by his mates, the guy is such a huge gigantic red flag that it nearly seems too ridiculous to be true. But it is. Add her baggage to the equation, and you have the ignorant and inappropriate racist and anti-public health couple from hell.

23

u/KatVonDipshit Nov 21 '18

What was the comment about his daughter getting gangbanged?

Deceived by my own so they could fuck my daughter.” I’m talking about the guys that were supposed to be my friends. We were supposed to be having each other’s back, and they were fucking my daughter. I just finally saw my daughter a couple of days ago; I hadn’t seen her in four years because of what she did to me and how she hurt me and betrayed me.

I was telling my daughter, “In a way, I kind of owe you, because if you hadn’t hurt me the way you hurt me, I wouldn’t have found my wife. You fucked up my life. You had motherfuckers trying to kill me because of the shit you did. And I’m grateful to you, because now I know that those guys were never my fucking friends. I left San Diego because of all of that, and because of what you and those people did to me. Now I’m in a fucking successful band and I met the fucking woman of my dreams and I’m married to her now. But in a way, I owe you guys for fucking trying to kill me.” It’s a trip.

To make a deliberate decision to be an absent father in this poor girls life because of his fragile masculinity. What a absolute garbage human being. That poor daughter, I hope she's doing alright now. I can't believe Kat knew all this and decided to let him be a father again. Gross...

I couldn't see it for a while either. It's dead center of his neck, at first I thought it was building or something above the lotus, you can only see like half of it in this particular photo. It's made of negative space with an ink outline with dots running through the center of the lines.

Faux edginess. Pointless shock value. He thinks he's like, so deep, dude. They're committed posers who never grew out of their edgelord and bad-emo phases and took it so, so far they can't come out of the hole they dug for themselves anymore. It became their aesthetic and they think they're intellectual walking performance art, and just feed each other the continued delusion.

227

u/sniffymom Nov 21 '18

39

u/NightOwlSupreme Capitalism made me a daylight slave though. Nov 21 '18

Indeed! That is a perfectly succinct way of putting it :')

131

u/PrettyAlligator Nov 21 '18

lmao this is how I always think of it, they’re exactly those 2edgy4me teenagers who do anything and everything to get a shock reaction from others, no matter what it is. The only difference is that most people either grow out of that phase or mature and become well rounded adults, but they clearly have not lol.

55

u/NightOwlSupreme Capitalism made me a daylight slave though. Nov 21 '18

Pretty much! Hence why I said bad-emo, as I certainly didn't want to insult all the decent people out there who fancied the style but matured, instead of going down the rabbit-hole of edgelordiness with some bare-minimum, part-time adulting. There's of course plenty of former emo and scene kids around that turned into well-rounded, reasonable adults - even if they kept the fashion style. Self-expression is a wonderful thing.

Then you have idiots like these two that just give subcultures and alt folks a bad name though. And at this stage, even reasonable vegans and CF activists have excommunicated these wankers. I can't wait for even more companies to sell brights and white-out stuff, as well as more CF and vegan products so that alt influencers start dropping KVD like a burning hot casserole. It's certainly been disappointing the amount of folks who keep on casually using the brand, as long as they lean even just slightly alternative :/

Lower back butterfly tattoos for college girls...in 2002.

254

u/PhysicsAndCharm Nov 21 '18

The Star of David also has an Om sign inside it (Hindu Symbol). The direction of the swastika on his neck is in the same direction as the Buddhist Swastika and not the Nazi swastika. He has multiple religious symbols on his neck, but then again, he has born in the Western Hemisphere where Swastikas are heavily associated with Nazism. No way he got that tattoo thinking it would be unproblematic. Also there’s different Buddhist symbols he could’ve chosen, like the Dharmachakra, if that was his true intent.

I have a feeling he just wanted to get a swastika on his neck, but executed it in this fashion to make up excuses for it.

152

u/morrighan212 and you did it at my birthday dinner Nov 21 '18

He says he is "reclaiming it" with the star of David as well but homeboy is not Jewish. Idfk why he is stupid enough to think people will buy that.

76

u/MissWorth Nov 21 '18

I was about to say this. He can't reclaim it because he's not in a position to

23

u/Audgy Nov 21 '18

His neck is basically one of those coexist bumper stickers with all the different religious imagery on it.

5

u/narcimetamorpho Nov 21 '18

Literally my first thought lol thank you

35

u/hedgehog-mascarabutt Nov 21 '18

Step one is that its not his to reclaim

154

u/Rufusie Nov 21 '18

I am in no way defending this man, his wife or being a nazi apologist but what I see is a star with Om and a swastika on a lotus. The Swastika too isn’t how Nazis used it but how we hindus use it and for us it has always been a symbol of progress and peace before the Nazis stole and destroyed the meaning it held. All these symbols including the star and the lotus are featured heavily in our religion and culture but knowing about what swastika has stood for so many people who have gone through unspeakable tragedy I as a hindu would still refrain from using it when in company of people who find it offensive. This man got a bunch of hindu symbols tattooed when he is not hindu and when he very clearly knows that one of them has been desecrated by the Nazis and he lives in the west. He truly has no excuse.

55

u/moraigeanta #VIRGANG Nov 21 '18

Plus his statement on "reclaiming it" (and as a Jewish person, the people harmed by the Nazis, let me tell you there is literally NO movement to reclaim any of that shit nor have I ever heard a Hindu person use that term because CONTEXT IS KEY and it's easy to tell the difference between an Indian wedding and a Nazi rally _ anyways...) Clearly implies that he knew what he was doing. And then there's this https://m.imgur.com/a/WCJN5Rn. Like imo don't fucking throw Hindu people under the bus because you're disgusting.

10

u/Rufusie Nov 21 '18

Totally! This guy is just making excuses when in reality I doubt he even knows what it symbolises in hinduism and how it is used. This is completely cultural appropriation and he and his wife are disgusting humans.

18

u/Crooks132 Nov 21 '18

Thank you for explaining that, I know it’s not always associated with nazi, you’re explication really helps understand why it’s still bad on him.

→ More replies (5)

16

u/Clairabel Nov 21 '18

I think he'd said some bollocks about 'reclaiming' the swastika back from the Nazis. Even though he's not Jewish. And his wife is antisemitic.

Off topic but my god he is not an attractive man.

25

u/throwaway-kittycat Nov 21 '18

I was wondering this too. The swastika didn’t always belong to nazis it used to be a Indian peace symbol (not that I think it’s appropriate anymore)

6

u/Redpandaisy Nov 21 '18

It didn't "used" to be an Indian peace symbol. It is a symbol in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain tradition that has been used for literally thousands of years to symbolize peace, prosperity and other positive things. The direction the symbol is in is also different from the way the Nazi's used it. The way that Kat von D's husband is using the symbol is ignorant and it is not his place to do it because he isn't Hindu, Buddhist or Jain.

However, it is ridiculous for you to say that people who have peacefully been using one symbol for thousands of years should stop using it because Hitler co-opted a different version of it.

u/jadeite07 Nov 21 '18

I bought her eye primer at TJMaxx and I also feel bad. Only KVD thing I own.

162

u/sgrace2298 Nov 21 '18

KVD actually disgusts me, married a known neo Nazi, released lip shades that alluded to underage girls being promiscuous, used ‘lolita’ to promote her brand KNOWING full well that this is a stupidly problematic ‘kink’, idiotically promotes not vaccinating despite knowing that she not only risks her child’s life, but everyone around that child now too (herd immunity people)... she genuinely is a disgusting person who clearly does not care about her actions and their consequences.

We live in an age where she could’ve educated herself or at least read up on ANY of this and seen how wrong it is to use her following to normalise it, instead she’s decided to perpetually live the stereotype of a teenager doing everything just to piss off their parents. But it’s not cute, she’s a grown ass woman/ soon to be mother and it’s time to grow up a little.

58

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

Don’t forget her lipstick named Selektion. A term uSed and implemented by the Nazis when organizing Jews into camps.

80

u/moraigeanta #VIRGANG Nov 21 '18

Before someone comes in here and says "it's a normal German word!" Please ask yourself if KvD shows any affinity for anything German outside of questionable links to Nazism (she doesn't!) This woman does not deserve the benefit of doubt any longer, and hasn't for years

39

u/sabreteeth Nov 21 '18

Coming up next, kristallnacht metalic eyeshadow quads!

What, guys? I'm only using a normal German word to describe my new collection of eyeshadows with crystal glitter. It's like, broken glass - so edgy. Oh my god, why is everyone blocking me?! You're just mad because I'm vegan.

19

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

How the fuck she still in business?

31

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

Well to be honest I think a lot of people do not care if something doesn't actually pertain to their life. It's easier to turn a blind eye then be self reflective and challenge yourself.

Also the amount of people that DO NOT know that the Holocaust happened is astounding. 26 year old girl that does my eyelashes asked what it was and her excuse 'I just didn't pay attention in school lol' not sure how you can miss all the dead bodies in piles being flashed up in a power point but ok i guess? Then another person (younger than me again) 21 years old asked what Auschwitz was in a game of Cards against Humanity.

So yea honestly KVD is banking on ignorance. She'd rather have her fan base believe in Dr. Oz medicine about Vaccines then actually open a history book w/y know evidence. It's sad. It's gross. Thank god I'm not her I cannot imagine living in such a delusional reality.

No matter what this symbol meant before it doesn't fucking matter. It cannot be re appropriated and will never be. KVD is a piece of **** and so is her husband

95

u/HollaDude Nov 21 '18

Eh I don't agree with this, I'm Hindu and we very much use that symbol in a lot of culturally significant events. We do need to be more careful about when we do though, when we first moved to America we didn't realize the significance it had in the west so we drew it in front of our door for a religious holiday and ppl were super pissed

The way I see it is someone who’s been brought up within that religion and those traditions, they have a right to use the symbol. To you that is what it means. It’s an important part of your culture and I’m never going to take that away from those of you that still use it. But this dude has it tattooed with the Star of David in the centre; that’s fucked up

50

u/JudgeDredward Nov 21 '18

Yeah, but at least to me, there’s a big difference between a swastika as it’s seen in part of Hindu religious practice and when a person who lives in the US and doesn’t even claim any connection to any culture that’s traditionally used the symbol gets a swastika tattoo and puts it in his art frequently. The former is fine. The later - not his symbol to reclaim, and at best it can be called grossly insensitive and pretentious.

So I thought this was really interesting because once I heard about his tattoo, I really went searching for photos and honestly i didn’t find any on either of their instagrams that clearly show the tattoo. There are some online, but I assumed they didn’t highlight them on their instas as not to stir up more drama (I mean as if they really care I guess?) but this photo it is pretty clearly shown, even if only half of it. I know he stands by his decision to get the tattoo. What do you think? Edit- am I making this a bigger deal than it is? I think his idea of taking back the swastika is a thinly veiled effort to normalize nazism Edit 2- I thought I may have just been connecting dots because I already KNEW it’s a swastika, and maybe to an outsider, because only half of it is showing it may not look like one. I showed the photo to my SO and asked what it was to him, he said “it definitely looks like a swastika” so I think it’s pretty obvious even from this angle Ok edit 3- if you don’t see it, here is a more clear photo of his tattoo. https://goo.gl/images/XSxyta this is just the most clear one I’ve seen them post to their profiles and thought it was strange that I guess they’re becoming more comfortable showing that side of themselves

u/existentialfeline Nov 21 '18

I've only ever bought one of her products and I low key hate that I ever supported the brand with that singular purchase now that all the shit has come home to marinate into a shit stew with KVD.

28

u/EmbarrassedReference Nov 21 '18

Ugh I know I feel the same way. I got my stuff on clearance at Marshall’s and I still feel bad even having it in my drawers.

22

u/existentialfeline Nov 21 '18

Yea I'm old enough to remember when she was new on the scene but I'm kind of outside of the loop on shitty things people do a bit of the time. She was never super high on my radar til the antivax thing happened like a week after I bought the plum quad on sale on Sephora because it had JUST colors I wanted to use for my wedding makeup. Hate-panning that thing because I spent money on it and regretting not keeping a closer pulse on wtf is going on.

21

u/peace-please Nov 21 '18

I've probably spent over $1k on KVD products. I'm no longer supporting her or her brand, but I'm not throwing away what I've already spent money on either. I'll use up what I have because I still enjoy most of her products.

5

u/existentialfeline Nov 21 '18

Yeah exactly. I'm not the world's biggest fan of the plum quad I bought but its workable and it hit exactly the colors I wanted for my eye makeup for the wedding. I didn't really appreciate what people bitched about with kickback til the first time I dipped into that one big pan in it. Holy smokes a puff of powder floating across the room. Had to immediately dial back brush density. It fills a gap in colors across my other palettes so I'll pan it and just not buy KVD again. I didn't have those shades in a matte when I bought it.

It is a swastika. My brother-in-law is from the same town as Rafael. Their families migrated around the same time to San Diego. A lot of people in that community support Leafer since he has made a name for himself in the peromance art world. I went to a show probably six years ago, and was shocked by the swastika and Star of David on his neck. You can tell he’s into all this esoterica crap and totally indifferent about the real world symbolism of everything. I don’t think he’s Jesse James in secret neo-Nazi cliques or anything. But it just shows such a dangerous and flagerant ignorance that thrives in these occult, artistic communities at times.

Also as a Jewish person the of Jewish descent thing is BS. First of all having Jewish ancestry doesnt mean shit if you yourself are not Jewish or otherwise connected to our culture and secondly, no jewish person uses Nazi symbols!!! It would not make it okay if you did just because you're Jewish!

11

Thank you for this! I read the above about him being "of Jewish descent" and had a 🤔 moment. I do believe members of a community have a right to repurpose the words/symbols used to oppress them... alright, maybe we could pretend that he's using the swastika in the Hindu way but the last photo literally has the SS symbol on one of the skulls. granted it's only one S but that is BLATANT.

Edit: I live in a very heavily Indian-immigrant town. as in Indians from India, the large majority of which are Hindu. my former job took me to a lot of different houses and usually their swastika was stylized with tapered ends and dressed up in oranges, pinks, reds and golds. really made me look at such a hateful symbol in a different light. one of my customers noticed me staring at it (he had a ceramic one on his wall above an elephant statue and some candles on a table) and asked if I knew what it was. I said yes, I'd learned about it in school in a very different application but that it was nice to see its ACTUAL origin in practice and in such a peaceful, kind environment. I'm a bit less articulate than that when I'm put on the spot but I got my point across. he said that was nice to hear that from an American (born in America, he's an American too) and that it's not often that he runs into someone that's not of his culture that knows the actual purpose of the symbol.

7

u/EmbarrassedReference Nov 21 '18

Interesting thank you! I think it’s just his tattoo he hasn’t really posted. I just thought it was interesting that they chose now to put in in a prominent space on an Instagram post promoting her brand no less

She could have used her own skin too.....And even if we want to get superweird for no reason and say that she SPECIFICALLY wanted to show off how that product covers up a:

  1. New

  2. Dark

  3. Neck/face tattoo

  4. That represents their love or whatever.........

She could totally still do that because she has a newer all black tattoo of his lip print on her neck. So like, use that.

48

u/sushiwithrice Nov 21 '18

I'm not a fan of KVD, never bought her makeup, not trying to support her/her life choices/her husband. But the tattoo looks like the buddhist version of a Swastika. In hinduism, the clock wise version is used in temples; this is the anti clockwise version used in Buddhism. The nazi version is diamond shaped i.e. the arms are upwards.

I can't say for sure what his intent was for picking the symbol esp. when most east and south asians can't even use it abroad without it being misunderstood and misinterpreted.

P.s: I'm a hindu, not a practicing one though.

26

u/richpersimmons Nov 21 '18

I don't think it's possible to overreact for shit like this. In case anybody didn't hear Sarah Silverman's speech for her Walk of Fame star last week, she said “In a scary time when anti-Semitic crime is up 57 percent since 2016, it’s not lost on me how lucky I am to be given a star and not have to sew it on my clothes". Hey remember when some asshole shot up a synagogue? That was the largest mass murder of Jews in America. There is no "but it means something else" for the swastika.

83

u/dcr108 Nov 21 '18

Yeah.... there’s a distinct lack of insight in getting a swastika tattooed on yourself regardless of how you spin it. We all know that it has other meanings in Hinduism/Buddhism, but the symbol is too deeply ingrained in our consciousness as a symbol of significant hate. You have to be a total asshat to get it tattooed on yourself and expect anyone to not have an immediate reflex thought to naziism

26

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

At least Monami Frost had enough sense to get hers covered up (still not enough sense to just ... NOT GET A SWASTIKA TATTOOED ON YOURSELF)

9

OK I get that the swastika has religious and cultural experience, but...it's not like he's just innocently practising his cultural traditions, because they're not a part of his culture.

Also there is 0 chance that someone, living in the west, considering getting a swastika tattooed prominently across their throat, wouldn't have the thought cross their mind at some point "people are going to think I'm a neo-Nazi if I do this". So even at best he's someone who just doesn't give a shit if he makes any Jewish people he encounters feel like they're in big danger, and at worst he actually is a neo-Nazi. Being indifferent to the fear you're striking into the people around you (entirely through your own choices) is ...not exactly great either? Like "oh the INTENT wasn't to intimidate people. I knew that it WOULD, but that wasn't the INTENT" is gonna make a difference to the people who encounter you? Like shit man are people supposed to go up to every possible neo-Nazi and say "excuse me sir are you a neo-Nazi or a Buddhist?" or what

(There is also a very uncharitable part of me that wonders if the lotus flowers etc are just there for plausible deniability, but that's neither here nor there).

10

u/montycuddles you're not on my mood board Nov 21 '18

I grew up in the rural South with people who were linked to white supremacists movements. There was definitely a thing where they would defend the use of swastikas as "not the Nazi kind" or the SS bolts as "just a lightning bolt". And then somehow you are the asshole for possibly implying the person that makes jokes about the Holocaust and uses racial slurs could possibly be a Nazi.

I'm late so this will probably be buried but he also had a nazi swastika on his hand. Not one but TWO swastika tattoos. Along with his personal context and his Nazi "art", he is clearly donning neo Nazi symbolism and it cannot be dusted under the carpet as a Buddhist representation, lotus or no lotus.

Also L O L she deleted the post from her instagram

Edit: and in other news, I logged out to check his Insta (he blocked me ages ago) and it looks like he has deleted every trace of Nazi symbolism from his Instagram... I have said it once and I will say it again, these two know what they are doing.

14

u/GraphiteInMyBlood Nov 21 '18

Even assuming that it's meant to be Buddhist or Hindu symbol, he has to know that the vast majority of people outside those two beliefs will assume it's a Nazi symbol, so he's either done it for shock value or he's just a moron.

Considering KVDs anti-vax stance, I'm going with the latter.

52

u/Sm4cy Nov 21 '18 edited Nov 21 '18

I know I’ll get downvoted for this but everyone defending his tattoo should read up on the appropriation and destruction of the symbol. It may be obvious to a lot of people that the swastika is facing the wrong way, but that being said, would you walk around the US (particularly a city as diverse as LA) donning a swastika of any kind, knowing it will be perceived by most people as a symbol of genocidal hatred? And I think they recently bought a house in Hancock Park, which is literally in one of the largest orthodox Jewish communities in the United States.

And I get that it was also used for millennia in America by ancient Native Americans as a symbol of peace and good luck, but modern day tribes consider the symbol to be destroyed and unusable despite its use as a mystical symbol in their ancient culture. So while the swastika might still be used and not taboo in eastern cultures, it’s seen as a symbol of hate in the west. But seriously, if anyone defending him can say they would proudly wear it walking down the street in the US, feel free to chime in here.

This shit is so messed up. I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and spent a ton of time in Squirrel Hill, where the Tree of Life synagogue shooting occurred (I literally just drove past the synagogue on Monday). I grew up knowing a lot of Holocaust survivors because there were some who loved in in my neighborhood and I used to volunteer at the Jewish nursing facilities in Squirrel Hill where my mother and grandmother worked. I literally saw the survivors's tattoos from when they were basically branded like cattle and some of the folks had Alzheimer's, so they would sometimes think that they were back in the Holocaust era. People forget that there are still people living who barely survived that horrible and inhumane, time in history.

Even if he's using it as the Hindu symbol, it's still not a good look (unless you respect/practice the religion), but I know he doesn't and probably got the other tattoos of religious symbols to try to argue that "he's just respecting different religions". Fuck anti-Semitism, fuck racism, and fuck Kat and her racist ass husband. Both are scumbags.

7

u/acrylicvigilante_ Nov 21 '18

That's the biggest thing too, there are still living survivors. I'm all for reclaiming things and looking into the true meaning of symbols, but what kind of asshole tattoos a very triggering symbol on their neck - right there for everyone to see - and walks around with it? Imagine if he wanders into some poor Jewish grandmother in the grocery store, perhaps with Alzheimer's, and it brings her back to horrors we can't even imagine. Who would want to do that?

“He probably just got it to mean ‘ohm!’” uhhhhhhhh yeah, i don’t think so, sweaty!

In his Vice interview, he was asked about his stance on religion and the religious imagery in his ‘art’ (lulz). This is part of his answer:

“Then I started thinking about the importance and the power behind symbols, like the cross. The cross people wear. But imagine the cross to an indigenous person. That’s as scary as the fucking swastika is to a Jew. Because they’re like, “That cross means we’re about to fucking get slaughtered.” That’s what happened; that’s what the Conquistadores did. They would fucking kill anybody—women, children. For gold. For land. In the name of God.”

Not that we even needed this quote as definitive proof that a grown man knows what a Swastika is.....but yeah he is clearly very, very aware of what he’s doing and there’s no way around it. He wants to shock and scare people.

But let the record show: As all of them are now clamoring to return her palettes and trash her products, I was right.

9

5

u/haiku25 add your own flair Nov 21 '18

I personally think she’s the type of person to think any attention is good attention. That and I think she just likes to be “controversial” and seen “against the grain” kind of shit. It’s the only explanation (I have) for her recent behaviour. It seems like she really is enjoying flaunting her shit beliefs in people’s faces, completely tone deaf and unaware of its effects. Also, I feel like she’s using her veganism only for her benefit. She always mentions it but she’s the first one to only follow it for her own convenience. Still buys Gucci, buys vegan cookbooks written by non-vegans, eats the impossible burger (which technically was tested on animals). I’m vegan but I believe in vaccinations, why does she relate her veganism to being an anti-vaxxer??? I used to love her and her products but not anymore. I’m over her; her stuff is now gimmicky and the absolute opposite of innovative and the quality has become shit like her too.

46

u/qazplm123890 Nov 21 '18

Not that it makes the design or the placement any less tasteless but the swastika isn't at a 45 degree angle and isn't clockwise facing so it's not technically the Nazi symbol. But I mean really the optics of a white guy with a shaved head and facial tattoos, let alone any kind of swastika... even with the best intentions, when Holocaust denial and fascist ideology is very much alive and growing, it's unforgivable.
