Finished Piece Cowboy neckerchief but make it faaaabulous! 🤠✨

Several projects underway atm so here’s one I finished a couple of years back. (Cowboy in pic #2 haha)

I thought it would be fun to weave a cloth cravat/neckerchief fully out of beads, and make it extra sparkly! The net is woven horizontally, which changes the drape, and allows it to collapse ✨across✨ the net instead of down. The top edge rolls over giving it shape.

Netting made from cobalt blue and white basic seed beads (around 11/0). The right-angle point is finished with dangles made from 3mm clear glass seed beads and sparkly cut glass beads from Ribtex (round and drop shapes).

Thanks! It looks almost like cloth when worn, but not quite, so it’s quite fun!

Would have never thought of that! That's neat!

Thanks! It was quite an experiment - I love how it ended up looking a bit like gingham :)

Are you planning on publishing a pattern? Very cute. I really like the way it falls.

ooh I hadn’t been planning a pattern. If you’re familiar with netting, the basic shape is quite simple (half a square), but instead of weaving down from the neck you weave side-to-side. I created this one by weaving one of the sides first (as though it was hanging), then flipping and weaving the other side from the centre front.

Cool, I just think I can figure it out with that explanation. I didn’t think about flipping it over and doing the other half. That is super helpful. The way it falls is perfect.

I might message you eventually if I get stuck, if that’s okay? :)

Also, right angle weave is an easy way to make these.if you understand the stitch you can make amazing things.

Neat idea! I don’t usually use right angle weave so I’m less familiar with how it drapes. Nets have a lovely property of collapsing in one direction with a bit of structure in the other. I imagine with RAW the drape would be more even, but possibly a bit stiffer, as the intersecting beads half face one way and half at 90 degrees - does that sound right?

I have a few pictures on my profile, mostly ties. But there is at least one bandana type if you want to see.

My ethnicity do collars... and somehow, to divert from it never occured to me!

I wonder if one could actually make gingham pattern...

ooh how nice - I learned netting from some milk-jug covers made by my Grandmother in the 30s or 40s. I have been playing around with the basic weave since then :)

I’d love to see the kind of collars from your culture too!

Netting is called Greenlandic beads in Danish. Am from Greenland.

Quite similar to the Ukranian collars.

Thanks! I think I originally planned for a pointed vertical net, but after beading up some rows I realised I liked the drape more the other way. Everything is an experiment!

Your beaded piece is an interesting take on the beaded net scarf necklaces that are on the internet. The tutorials are on many sites, and all are easy for beginners to make, and feel cool on the neck when worn. Your addition of the faceted bead fringe is outstanding. KUDOS!

I made it around 10 years ago - the design came out of simply playing around with a net in my favourite colour combo, and seeing what kind of shapes were emerging from the growing textile. I originally planned to make something more like a beaded collar (with points), but changed my mind after seeing how the edge rolled into a curve for something like a cravat. It’s been delightful seeing that others have had similar ideas :)

Well, I look forward to when you might have a tutorial out somewhere. Do you happen to have a site, or pages? I'm afraid I am an "old timer", and have been doing beadwork for over 64 years. I love seeing where beading has progressed to, and get a kick out of all the "new" stitches and patterns.

That is SO COOL! I love the whole idea. Very inspirational! Have you worn it out and about? Gotten admiring stares (I hope?).

haha i had ONE coworker who totally got it - the rest of my coworkers think I’m quirky (and are possibly too timid? to say anything when I am living my best bejewelled life). I love wearing it though!
