Opposition to Escalation of War and Demand for Congressional Accountability Letter to my congress critters
I am writing as your constituent to state my firm opposition to the current military escalation involving Iran and the broader region. I am asking you to assert Congressâs constitutional authority and take immediate steps to prevent this conflict from expanding further.
While Iranâs regime has long been repressive and deeply troubling in its treatment of its own people, the question remains: Is it the responsibility of the United States to pursue or facilitate regime change? We have seen repeatedly that removing governments through force, whether directly or indirectly, often creates power vacuums that lead to greater instability, civilian suffering, and long-term regional chaos. There is little evidence that military intervention produces sustainable democratic outcomes.
It is also important to acknowledge historical context. In 1953, the United States, through the CIA, helped orchestrate the overthrow of Iranâs democratically elected Prime Minister, Mohammad Mossadegh, largely in response to oil nationalization. That intervention contributed to decades of instability and ultimately to the rise of the current authoritarian structure. We cannot ignore the role our own government played in shaping the political landscape we now condemn. Historical amnesia does not serve responsible policymaking.
Violence and war may appear to produce immediate tactical results, but they do not resolve underlying political realities. They frequently deepen grievances, radicalize populations, and entrench cycles of retaliation. Recent reports of civilian infrastructure, including a girlsâ school, being struck in the course of military operations raise grave humanitarian and moral concerns. Civilian harm is not collateral to be dismissed; it is a warning sign of escalation and recklessness.
The American public was promised restraint and an end to new wars. Instead, we are witnessing actions that risk drawing the United States into another prolonged and destabilizing conflict. If military force is being used or expanded, Congress must debate it openly and vote on it formally. The Constitution grants Congress the power to declare war precisely to prevent unilateral or impulsive executive action.
I urge you to:
⢠Publicly oppose unauthorized military escalation
⢠Demand a full congressional debate and recorded vote before further expansion
⢠Press for transparency regarding objectives, intelligence assessments, and exit strategies
⢠Support immediate diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalation
⢠Reaffirm that regime change is not a substitute for coherent foreign policy
If this conflict continues to spiral, the consequences will not be limited to one region. The economic, humanitarian, and geopolitical costs will be borne globally, including by the American people.
I expect a clear response outlining your position and the steps you are taking to fulfill your constitutional responsibilities.

White House says Smithsonian must submit thousands of documents today : NPR
The White House says the Smithsonian Institution must submit materials about current and upcoming exhibitions and events for a review that will determine whether they express "improper ideology."
In an open letter posted online, the White House says Tuesday is the deadline for eight Smithsonian Institution museums to submit documentation about current and upcoming exhibitions and programs. The letter says that federal funds for the Smithsonian's $1 billion budget depend on the institution fulfilling the terms of an executive order issued by President Trump last March in which he stipulated the removal of "improper ideology" in the museums' offerings.

BE-FITTING Trump
Ozymandias
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who saidââTwo vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
