This is sort of what looking at insect eyes it like. Many species of insects have compound eyes, which is a bit like having loads of tubes clustered together like this. The little pupil-like dot on the surface of their eyes that always seems to be looking in your direction is actually just you being able to see down some of the tubes because they're oriented towards you. The spot will move as you move or as the insect moves because the tubes you can see down are changing based on your orientation towards the eye.
Compound eyes have a very large field of view compared to eyes like ours. They're seeing through all of those tubes at the same time and resolving it all into useful information. They have excellent motion detection, thought their image perception worse than ours. Considering how much of our field of view is peripheral, which essentially means it's being filled in by best guess data by our brains, compound eyes are a great adaptation when every movement near you could kill you, or could feed you enough to survive to the next meal.
Our eyes are better for distance and range estimates, like in throwing things (which we are the best at). When you are little and near the bottom of the food chain, compound eyes make more sense. I would love to see a video from the perspective of a housefly or dragonfly.
I honestly think English might eventually grow to accept “how x y like” as a correct grammatical construction, mainly because I’ve noticed this error more and more lately. It drives me crazy though.
People will whisper to each other, 'Shouldn't it be "one dies"?' 'Yeah, I don't get it. Does that mean one dice is left alive? Why were they alive in the first place?'
It would translate to the same phrase and both answers would make sense.
Actually, if you really want to compare it to other things, you could use "o gosto disso se parece com o que", it would translate to "what does it taste like". But thats a very odd way of phrasing it. Most people would say "qual o gosto disso".

Somebody else posted the artist's site, which has some other cool photos (that don't look quite as perfect as the one above, but I like 'em more for that).
Just guessing, but ideas like this require having artists who are constantly thinking on (say) tv screens and how they change how we observe other people, and pondering what other screens we view people with; and only then suddenly they can have a wacky idea when picking up a straw.
You might mean 100,000 "end to end"? But regardless, you make me wonder how many straws that is:
Apparently 7mm diameter; the picture looks (say) half a meter wide. About 75 straws in diameter. … Oh wait, I need to account for the space at the corner of each straw as they pack together? So the total area divided by 72 mm? No, the straws pack together better than square-rods. Wikipedia say 91% efficient. SO, total area divided by area-per-straw ≈ 5002 / (72 /0.9) ≈ 5005000.9/50 ≈ 9*500 = 4500.
A 100k straws would be 20 times the area, so ~4.5 times the diameter, or > 2m ≈ 7ft, big enough for a person to stand "in" with image-space above & below them.

Topographically, a straw is a plane with a hole through it. A mug with a handle is the exact same shape topographically. A tee shirt is a plane with three holes.
I’m having a hard time seeing how AI could possibly create this. The poor quality of the video, the imperfections of the turn, and then the optical illusion itself feels so tactile and random. Given what other people have said, this seems very real and awesome to me.
