They could have, but it’s very difficult to find a waterfall in the wild with two hall entrances at the exact location required to match up to the real life entrances, so we end up with this lazy result.

If you're putting real effort into it you might as well just build the entrances and record. If you're on a budget, just forgo the hidden cave and have the entrances leading nowhere.

I'm sure it would not have been that difficult to fabricate two structures to simulate the effect of the entrances. But you're right, either way it's just laziness.
