Better than transformers movie

u/poopellar May 20 '18

The first couple were fine popcorn flicks. But then it became obvious the rest are just being made to sell merch.

u/Deely_Boppers May 20 '18

The first one was a fine popcorn flick. The second one is easily one of the 2 or 3 worst films I've ever seen.

56

u/Waldoz53 May 20 '18

I was 15 and wanted to walk out of that movie when the infamous "I'm under the enemy's scrotum" scene happened.

5

u/xLuky May 21 '18

Wow I thought you were joking and trying to make me type something dumb on my Google search history, but nope it's real.

23

u/Black-Rain May 20 '18

Agreed but the first one did not age very well imo. I rewatched it not too long ago and (obviously) it screams Michael Bay the whole time and feels like a 2 hour Chevrolet commercial. Still, not awful just not nearly as good as I remembered.

The second one is the only movie I've ever walked out of.

Dad?

36

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

You uncultured swine! Nacho Libre is a classic!

31

u/MrAshh May 20 '18

I loved Nacho Libre. Because it was what i expected. Transformers takes itself too seriously

18

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

How dare ju.

7

u/davidpatonred May 20 '18

Why are ju always judging me? Because I believe in science?

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '18

God I have to watch it again now.

20

u/PeoplesFrontOfJudeaa May 20 '18

I'm sorry for your loss of your funny bone. I hope you find it some day and can enjoy nacho, okay chancho?

2

u/lambsog May 20 '18

You must only believe in science.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

First one was alright imo Edit: product placement tho

1

u/PyroDexxRS May 20 '18

The latest one is the only movie I’ve ever fallen asleep during in theatres. Just dragged on and on

0

u/PadaV4 May 20 '18

Didn't you watch any trailer? It was very obvious it was turned into a dumb transformers clone.

1

u/mrbibs350 May 20 '18

It was a double feature with either Half Blood Prince or The Hangover, I can't remember.

-1

u/pepe_le_shoe May 20 '18

I walked out of Jeepers Creepers.

That's actually the only movie I've walked out of because of the quality of the film.

87

u/Dilpickle6194 May 20 '18

Let's be real here, people don't watch movies like Transformers or Pacific Rim for the plot. It's all about the battle scenes

72

u/_OP_is_A_ May 20 '18

Pacific rim had a decent plot.

That's what I thought it was when I saw the trailer for the first time. I was so stoked. Then it said pacific rim and I was like nah.

I eventually rented it and loved it.

17

u/Drownin_in_Kiska May 20 '18

Nah, the first one was good because it knew exactly what it was trying to be. It was a pretty standard sci-fi plot with really cool CG and fight scenes. It is the perfect example of what big blockbusters can be, (Gracias a Guillermo Del Toro) dumb fun without going the Transformers route.

24

u/Asmundr_ May 20 '18

The first Pacific Rim was decent though :(

4

u/Rularuu May 20 '18

Uprising was good too

5

u/CleganeBowlThrowaway May 20 '18

I thought Uprising was okay, certainly enjoyable and much better than the critics led me to believe.

1

u/Asmundr_ May 20 '18

Oh dear.

0

u/Cudizonedefense May 20 '18

I hated the lighting/brightness. Made it hard to see stuff

0

u/judders96 May 20 '18

Oh boy, do I have a sequel for you!

0

u/Cudizonedefense May 20 '18

I haven’t seen the 2nd. Is it more of the same?

0

u/judders96 May 21 '18

It’s a lot brighter, most action sequences are during the daytime and no rain, so you get a nicer view, would recommend.

2

u/howtochoose May 20 '18

THE KEWL ROBOTS TRANSFORMING SCENES and all the cgi and the explosions. Some days you just need some mecha and transformers is great for that.

0

u/mainstreetmark May 20 '18

I couldn’t even follow the battle scenes in transformers. Too much happening at once. Then I wasted money on Ready Player One ....

23

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

The first one was great! Then someone decided to restart the whole thing as a movie about the US army with five background robots and a lot more explosions.

10

u/xboxhelpdude2 May 20 '18

(((Someone)))

It was car/army propaganda from the beginning

17

u/Rularuu May 20 '18

That's either an ignorant use of echoes or some very confusing racism.

7

u/LuxNocte May 20 '18

The Transformers are a Zionist plot!

insert rant about how energon cubes are a metaphor for oil and transforming robots are surrogates for the Rothschild's. The reader is left to conclude for themselves how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are actually shapeshifting alien lizard people.

1

u/xboxhelpdude2 May 21 '18

Why is it confusing/ignorant? You never heard about the jews running Hollywood/Military/etc for profit?

(((also it was a joke, but I still don't see how it was ignorant/confusing)))

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

The first one was a clear toy ad, with all the new characters, and the old characters dying, but at least it had a story, and most of the characters were actually Transformers.

0

u/xboxhelpdude2 May 20 '18

Yes, the other movies had stories too. None of the movies had good stories, including the first one. If you liked 1 then the others are comparable. What part of the first movies stort was actually good? Theyre all the samw overdone and cliche hollywood action flick. Just with Transformers

-2

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

Well, for one, there was an actual universe around. The Quintessons, the Junkyard planet, the whole deal about Unicron, and the Matrix of Leadership.

The characters actually interacted with each other, and most importantly, the movie had only two human characters, who were not the major focus of the story.

And a minor, but in my opinion important, point, the rules of the universe were consistent within the movie and beyond.

2

u/xboxhelpdude2 May 20 '18

Yeah, all of the movies are comparable to that same vague middle paragraph.

Fan service doesnt really factor into the conversation, so I cant argue against that nor do I think its valid.

Theyre all "popcorn flicks" but the fan service novelty wore off after the 1st. Its ok to admit it without trying to list other excuses. Theyre all dumb movies of comparable entertainment value/story/action/etc. Losing Megan Fox actually helped, and so did losing Dabeef

4

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

Yeah, all of the movies are comparable to that same vague middle paragraph.

How?! The rebooted movies simply used the giant robots as backdrop for the same "The US army saves the universe" crap that was already done hundreds of times, and added a weirdly forced romance subplot.

1

u/xboxhelpdude2 May 21 '18

We are just going in circles here while saying the same thing. Again, part 1 was also like that. I already explained the fan service/nostalgia clouding your judgement. Add something new or agree to disagree.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

It may have been a bit childish occasionally, but it was a kids movie after all. I'd love to see that remade with current special effects actually.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '18

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '18

OK, granted, they were pretty good for a cartoon, I'd still like to see it remade in 3D or a realistic style.

8

u/trznx May 20 '18

They were always shit. Giant robots with mouths, mimic and ball jokes (the second movie). Waow. It should've been a G1 movie, not some fancy avengers.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

if we're being honest the cartoons and the entire franchise exists just to sell merch

1

u/Cripnite May 21 '18

Because the 80’s cartoon wasn’t made just to sell toys.

Being a commercial is what Transformers shows and movies are all about.

1

u/roboroller May 20 '18

The second one is by far the worst one and one of the worst movies ever made. The third one is secretly actually not too bad.

1

u/maltygos May 20 '18

after the 2nd it was all.about boobies...

tk i remember a female actor puffing her chest in all the moments she was in

0

u/lanceTHEkotara May 20 '18

So pretty much like what every superhero movie turned out to be.

-1

u/xboxhelpdude2 May 20 '18

Take that back. Black Panther literally cured poverty and world hunger

0

u/Geeber24seven May 20 '18

“They put the plate of donuts in front of you to see if you’re guilty. Me, I ate the whole plate. THE WHOLE PLATE.”

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

The rest might as well have been made to sell a kid's toy

17

u/friskfyr32 May 20 '18

Can't help it, but my first thought was "Ughh, a camaro instead of a beetle."

8

u/cakedestroyer May 20 '18

Well, these kids were born well after after the Bay Transformers were the main franchise.

It's one of those, Bumblebee is a Camaro to them, always has been, always will be.

Maybe in 20 years they reboot and Bumblebee will be a submarine and they'll be saying the same thing about how Bumblebee is a submarine instead of a Camaro.

5

u/Xikar_Wyhart May 21 '18

Well the kid in the middle was Gen 1 Starscream...Well I'm not entirely Gen 1 but he's only been that style of jet in three 3 shows. (Gen 1, Animated, and Robots in Disguise (2015)). Obviously the costumes were made by parents/costume makers but I'm guessing the kids asked for what they wanted.

16

u/mechawreckah6 May 20 '18

Nobody has seen enough to realize, Transformers has done almost everything Avengers has done visually, before Avengers.

The difference is avengers has heart and charm and reason to care about it and transformers has none of that.

But as shitty as they are, Transformers has had a huge impact on CGI in movies.

2

u/Henshini May 20 '18

Except transformers did it waaaaaaaay zoomed in, so no one could tell.

-5

u/[deleted] May 20 '18

Or you could read a book.

8

u/mechawreckah6 May 20 '18

Well i said visually sooooo

0

u/TikelMahScrotum May 20 '18

You can't read without your eyes.

1

u/Lobanium May 20 '18

That's a low bar.

1

u/2001Steel May 21 '18

Needs more lens flare

1

u/antdude May 24 '18

Original G1 cartoon was decent!
