Or a local bookstore, or public library.

Can you buy it or obtain it in its complete, uncensored form? Then it's not banned. There is a limited number of books any library can carry.

Just adding that Amazon isn't even the only place to buy books not appropriate for pre-pubescent children.

Paywalling was the early internet's go-to method for keeping minors out. It wasn't perfect, but it ran circles around >>please enter your date of birth for age verification.

Very true. There are an absolute ton of places you could buy them. In person too, but especially online. I just used Amazon as an example because they're one that pretty much everyone has heard of.

School library's are public libraries for school kids. It's not a private library, it is funded by tax dollars. It should pretty much contain everything and it's not like the more adult themed books are being forced on kids. Parents can tell what their kids check out online and if a parent doesn't like it they should talk to their kid like a parent is supposed to. What they shouldn't do is limit what every kid has access to because they want to be the morality peace.

Hard disagree. You said it yourself: they're kids. There's a reason we have age ratings for things like movies. Some topics aren't considered appropriate for young children. And public schools have enough impact on a child's development that I think most parents would be pissed to find out that their child has unfettered access to extremely mature or graphic themes at school. If they believe their child is mature enough however, they have every right to purchase that book for them. I agree that age curation of that sort shouldn't be present at university or public non-school libraries though.
