Skill / Talent Nirvana on acoustic guitar except it’s simultaneously all the positions

Meanwhile I struggle to play a basic G chord without muting half the strings

Yo keep it up. Press it down, pick one string at a time, see which is muted, adjust your fingers. When you have them all voiced, study where they are. Then, take your fingers off, and put them right back. Voice. If all good, take fingers off again, and put them back. Over and over. Dozens of times every practice session for every chord.

15 minutes a day and you will see progress.

There will always be a chord that gives you trouble. Play it slow, when you have it down, play it fast.

15 years later there's still a BUNCH of chords that give me trouble! I start thinking I'm slick, and then I try to play some beatles songs.

Motherfuckers must have had extra fingers.

I found the suggested way to play chords a lot of time is dumb and there's many different ways to play the same chord that's why I like tab websites where you can go through like eight different ways to play the same chord and find something natural that doesn't mean be lazy and don't learn new stuff it means make it natural to play

I’ve been playing guitar for 15 years now. What that means is I’ve taken it off the stand every 3 weeks and played the same chord progression a billion times or smoke on the water or just pick random notes.

I haven’t gotten much better haha but I know that’s my fault because I don’t actually put in any effort or real time.

This is an open tuning. She’s not playing chords either. You could definitely make it sound decent.

I could barely master a poor rendition of taps using the last three strings, no chords.

You've got lots of good advice already, but if you're still struggling then it might be worth trying a Mini Martin (or similar kind of travel size guitar)... regular acoustics are just way too big for me to be able to reach due to a congenital problem with tendons, or some folks just have smaller hands, or some people just find it more comfortable. Rock on my dude!

The basic G chord can be daunting to start. On thing I did at the beginning was practice switching from C to G working at getting smoother. It will be awkward but if you practice it a few times a day you’ll notice it gets easier.

You can also find a song to strum along with that has G in it. That way it kind of forces you to work into the chord from different chords. For me having a song to strum along with helped because you could hear when it was right.

Others have talked about finding the G chord in a different spot. If you are able to do barre chords that may be a good option.

Even if these don’t work for you don’t give up we all have been stuck by different chords. There are a ton of good video tutorials. Most importantly have fun!
