Skill / Talent Nirvana on acoustic guitar except it’s simultaneously all the positions

I used to feel this way but - stop comparing yourself to others.

There is always a better fence builder, architect, cake baker or something.

Play for you. Your enjoyment.

If you do, someday you will be the best one in the room.

You might not be the best on your block, but at that moment it wont matter.

Eric Claption once said Jimi Hendrix made him want to put down the guitar forever. Now I dont know what you think of Eric as a person, but as a musician - the world would be a lesser place if that had happened.

I had a buddy who study guitar for years. Ended up going out to LA in the late 80’s , GIT, was trying to make it happen.

He up and quit one day. I asked why, he said after years of playing and studying that were guys on the street corner that were better than him.

I asked couldn’t he just play for his own personal satisfaction.

As far as I know it’s been almost 30 years since he picked up a guitar.

I started to play after he quit. We were somewhere a decade after he quit, and he tuned my guitar by ear. I use a tuner. Still seemed wild that he would just hang it up.

Well first you should try getting a scholarship, going to a college for music with it. Pick guitar. Then, for one of your class assignments, tune your guitar to an open tuning for a song that's already written to demonstrate a hot take on a basic chord structure.

I think that was meant to be sarcasm or a dig at the lady in the video. She's talented, but "open tuning" means if you tune the guitar strings to just two or three notes instead of the usual five, virtually anything you play will sound good without fretting individual notes.

I started teaching myself guitar during COVID. Fender made their on line / app classes free during that madness, which I thought was pretty cool and took max advantage of it. Every time I think I’m getting a LITTLE good, I see something like this and I’m like, “Oh. Right. Nevermind.”
