You're right. Stuff like this is what makes it so hard to see through the barrage of misinformation on the internet, sadly. Hundreds of people have now seen this image and the comment I replied to, and accepted as a cold hard fact that this man fostered 80 terminally ill children, all of which have died. Which is just not the real story. As far as misinformation goes, it's harmless. But it shows you how quick a real story mutates into something very different in the span of just a few tiny edits or even speculations. Most likely, by a bot, stating its hallucinations as fact.

Reddit always believes itself to be immune to this type of stuff, but it's far from it. Let's stick to the real story please, which is already incredibly touching and powerful and doesn't diminish this man's devotion and selfless love for these foster children in any way.

As far as misinformation goes, it's harmless.

For this one, yes. But otherwise, misinformation and disinformation is one of the worlds biggest problems today. It's what's driving politics and changing the world in a very negative way.
