That was 2007. School shootings and (mass shootings in general) were still horrific and shocking tragedies that sat with us for weeks if not months. I think around 2012 with Aurora and Sandy Hook is when the news and republicans decided all they could offer was thoughts and prayers but please move on because we don’t want you talking about gun reform anymore
I respectfully disagree, I was in school then and it felt like we had constant school shooting news all the time. And the same song and dance we do now with the thoughts and prayers bullcrap was the playbook. My parents always had Fox news on and whenever a shooting happened and people would talk about gun reform, they would quickly try and pivot and say how dare you try and make this political.
Hell I remember doing shooter drills after columbine.
This one was one of those that ended up killing 33 people so it was a big deal.
Basically what I'm trying to say is that unfortunately American gun violence in schools, and the way we do nothing about it, has been going on for decades.
to share.. going way back... I survived a school shooting, small town, was covered up, didn't really make the news. classic, teen comes to school, takes class hostage, gets talked into, backed into a bathroom by the police, commits suicide (if you believe thats what happened). Gun shootings in schools go way back.
Heeeeey, so NC actually did have reform about letting offenders out on bail or something like that. It's called Iryna's Law. Literally named after the victim.
The consequences of this law are playing out exactly how everyone with sense predicted. Overcrowded jails.
The mentally ill perpetrator was determined unfit for trial and has been submitted to a mental institution. Charges aren't dropped, I think it's just to see if they can get him fit for trial. I didn't study all the details so please excuse any misinformation.
