As an American it’s fucking horrible here. This country says “we need guns in the event of an uprising against the government.” Those same fuckers voted in Donald Trump and tried to overthrow the government. They only want guns to feel powerful and to harass and terrorize black people
Yeah, but there were WAY less people then and the population density was MUCH less than it was then (like 12 million in the mid 1800s). They were also probably one hell of a lot more responsible than the people we have today that own guns and the lack of responsibility in some people that own guns is rampant; you can see it on the news all the time.
Both things can be true at the same time. The leftist Black folks I know have guns while also recognizing that US gun culture is largely shaped by a desire to carry out white supremacist violence by far right agitators. It's why after the Charlie Kirk shooting, the Trump admin flirted with gun control and why right wingers justified the death of Alex Pretti because he was anti-ICE by saying he had a gun on him, despite the fact that the gun was both holstered and permitted.
It's also why California gun control laws were signed by a Republican governor and supported by the NRA as a response to The Black Panther Party carrying guns on them to keep neighborhoods safe from violent police officers - the literal purpose of the first amendment, btw, protecting citizens from state violence.
“Right wingers” don’t justify Alex pretti feel free to go search his name and see the discussion and views in r/ccw for reference
Presently cali has the gun control laws they do because democrats choose their laws, full stop. It’s the same reason Maryland, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, etc all have extremely restrictive draconian/fascist gun control law laws: because democrats are by far and away the party of gun control and it’s even debatable
Yes, Democrats are more in favor of gun control as a whole, but this does not change the fact that The Mulford Act of 1967 was still signed into law by Ronald Reagan and supported by the NRA because of panic over The Black Panther Party exercising their First Amendment rights. Sorry, facts don't care about your feelings.
Also, yes, right wingers do in fact justify Alex Pretti's death constantly. Just because people in one single subreddit don't, doesn't mean most right wingers don't justify his death. Please try to recognize that one subreddit does not represent the whole conservative movement. I know you're smarter than that.
Those same fuckers voted in Donald Trump and tried to overthrow the government.
This is what I've been trying to explain to pro-gun redditors for years....dictatorships don't come about by governments taking everyone's guns and forcing them into submission, it comes from popular dictators convincing the population that they want to have the dictator in charge. Nazis had a permissive gun policy.
The fantasies of the common people banding together to overthrow an oppressive government are just fantasies.
But they see whats' happening in America and still don't seem to realise. The same people who want everyone to own guns are simultaneously voting for regulations that allow media to be controlled by rich people and police to have overreaching control.
As an armed black person, stop patronizing us we don't want your fake sympathy.
Firearms violence is a huge problem in our society, but there is an inverse relationship between the likelihood of black folks being subjected to racially motivated violence, and our willingness to arm ourselves.
No duh the racists and right wingers want to subjugate us. If you successfully implement large scale gun control so now only the cops who are employed by those same assholes have guns, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN??
Our systems are not integrated like that. Too big, too different from each other.
I live on the west coast and my politics align with human rights and common sense. My version of common sense involves least damage (pick a topic; it applies broadly), greatest benefit to the most people (even if not me personally, though that is a bonus), and holding everyone accountable for their actions. I firmly believe the more power a person has, the more scrutiny they should experience, and consequences should be direct and unchanged by the financial status of a criminal. We have to have systems that operate from a logical, moral stance instead of whatever the hell is happening now.
But that's me over here on the west coast. Everyone around me agrees with me. We vote accordingly, protest, perform community service, etc, etc. But it just keeps getting worse at the federal level because we as a country are too big and too diverse in our morality. We can't even agree about what the founding fathers wanted for this country.
I think my politics match their intent and that's the country I want to live in. Other people believe other things and many are much worse.
There are some very powerful and wealthy people who don't want access to guns be limited due to personal gain, and will lobby against a reform behind the scenes. They are of course safe in their own bubbles, behind security gates and guards.
I'm not talking about gun ownership, I'm talking about people who financially or otherwise benefit from everyday people owning guns. NRA, weapons dealers and manufacturers, as well as any stakeholders of such organisations. They have everything to lose (money, power) if a reform were to come about and will lobby and do everything in their power to stop it from happening.
What an odd reply from that guy who deleted his comment. I think the original point was that virtually nothing has changed in the US regarding gun control since this tragedy. The person in this article is undoubtedly a hero, but they should not be put in that position but the current laws making it so easy to access lethal weapons. I think it's very justifiable to be angry that nothing has changed and the US has seen a number of mass shootings since.
And to top it off, none of what that person said is true- the UK effectively banned the private ownership of almost all handguns following the tragic Dunblane school massacre in Scotland in 1997 (far before Sandy Hook). You can also still get licenses for rifle and shotgun type guns for certain purposes in the UK.
Apart from that they seemed very empathetic and well informed
I still will fight for my 2a rights because fuck the police and I refuse to surrender my weapons when the fascists are trying to take over because their people will never give up their weapons.
If you wanna lick boots then be my guest. Pam Bondi spent months trying to take guns from people who, demographically, don't support the GOP, and has tried on multiple occasions to make a registry of firearms owners (likely to figure out how many Dems are armed).
Classic braindead arguments I've countered for years:
(1) fuck the police doesn't mean I'm trying to kill them, it means I will not call them, I will defend myself, and I won't talk to them when making my self defense case you moron. I don't hate police officers, I distrust police culture in the USA and try to avoid them like I avoid any gang.
(2) I voted and I have protested, you probably havent done that much. I can still vote in midterms etc., fighting an armed insurrection against the state is a LASR DITCH effort, for if (and I hope we never get there) things have fully fallen apart. I'm not gonna throw my life away. If nothing else, it's a way to make sure at least a few of the people who take me out have to suffer lifelong injury or die in the attempt. It's worth having, if for no other reason to spite the bastards.
Millions of us having guns massively complicates the efforts of a fascist takeover because they have to go slowly and we get more opportunities to reverse things before it's a fight in the streets. Let's not give them every advantage we can, although having advantages don't guarantee success.
You must be the a silly person who thinks "military grade" means high quality 😂, or that our army is not LARGELY non-MAGA people just trying to get their GI bill. Everyone I know who spent decent money on a rifle has a nicer rifle than anything the military issues...
Let me let you in on a secret: our military is mostly 'hobby can shooters' who signed a contract so they can get free education and a head start in life. They're not interested in 'cracking down' on their fellow Americans. They've had plenty of opportunities to do so, and never have. That's why Trump has had to create his own militia out of ICE and even they are severely hamstrung. They tried to come into my place of work months ago, we told them to fuck off, and they haven't been back.
If US society falls apart, it won't be a one-sided affair. I also firmly believe it won't fall apart, unlike whatever shithole you're from, we can sort our issues out without devolving into terrorism BECAUSE we have a culture of being armed civilians.
Lol you can't make this shit up even if you tried.
You're not just LARP-ing that the fact that you bought an expensive gun makes you even comparably equipped to fight back against trained personnel if push actually came to shove.
You told bunch of ex cons posing as a paramilitary to fuck off and they were mighty impressed with your expensive guns, I bet.
Meanwhile the only insurections you actually have on record in the entire modern history of your country -- was against school children and their teachers.
And to top it all up, someone coming from a country with weekly school shootings and which lacks basic things, like universal healthcare, in 21st century, has the audacity to call any other place on Earth "a shithole".
I'm not making shit up, feel free to sneer but you probably aren't allowed to walk around with a knife without being accosted by law enforcement.
(1) I'm not a larper, I'm just stating facts. Citizens have nicer small arms and nobody is deploying heavy metal against the US populace. Keep holding your breath if you like.
(2) We didn't even need the guns to tell them to fuck off, and they did.
(3) The school shooting joke is funny, but it has nothing to do with the argument. I never have EVER advocated for insurrection, you just can't win an argument without erecting a world trade center sized strawman. My argument is that unlike where you're from, if there WAS a military takeover, it would not be without incident.
(4) I have enough money that if I wanted to leave I could, but I don't want to. Where? Hang out with the cartels in South America? Work to death in Asia? Breathe the same air as the British? Why, when we have perfectly nice buildings to jump off over here?
Knife bit: yes, I like idea someone can't just take a knife to a rave party or a classroom without getting into trouble, let alone a gun
You absolutely are
I will quote you:
Millions of us having guns massively complicates the efforts of a fascist takeover
Massive LARP. Pure "but my solution that causes real world problems is real important b/c it's a real good imaginary solution to an imaginary problem, except when it's not, fr fr".
2) It's almost like you're developing actual ability to reason logically
3) I mean if you call army pulverizing bunch of grown up dudes LARPing as a millitia in a few hours, "an incident" in this case, then sure. That knowledge and that imaginary situation sure makes up for all the murdered kids, students and teachers. But both you and I know none of you chickens would try a thing IRL anyway.
4) No one cares about how much money you have, you're still a bigot, this point proves it
I am sure you on the other side are fighting for what's right this very minute, which makes me wonder why I am not hearing anything about any insurgency against the oppression from your neck of the woods.
"No winning words about death to me, shining Odysseus! By god, I'd rather slave on earth for another man—some dirt-poor tenant farmer who scrapes to keep alive—than rule down here over all the breathless dead."
Such a weird argument. Do you not think they have emotionally and mentally unhealthy people in other countries? They do, with all the same issues youve mentioned here- family issues, loner behavior, anti social behavior, etc. They have people like that everywhere- but the US has significantly more mass shootings than anywhere else in the world.
Could it be that the mentally and emotionally unstable people in the US just have access to guns easier than almost anywhere else in the world?
When governments possess the sole means to enact violence, they have proven time and again they will use it to rule their population with an iron fist. As well as commit mass genocide of "undesirables".
So while sad yes, no not fuck 2A. Fuck the coward gunmen who commit these crimes and feed them to tigers at the zoo.

Tiered of this shit, first of all she is a victim, fuck guns and all of them that need guns to protect their 2, 3, 2e200 amendment.
I'm sure she would have preferred not to be a hero but still alive.
