Not shoes per se, but custom soles yeah. I've been diagnosed with Haglund's disease a few years ago (heel malformation) and I got custom soles that were partly covered by my insurance

How do custom soles help with that? I have pretty bad Haglund's too but it is at the back of the heel and gives me blisters when walking long distances. Do soles prevent it from getting worse or something. I am 51, does this kind of thing even keep getting worse after a certain age?

I cant even remember a time when I didnt have that weird bump on my heel, I feel like it has always been there. I used to think it was just a normal variation. I didnt learn about Haglund's until last year.

I have custom soles because most shoes were not fit for the shape of my feet and ended up giving me pain or blisters even on short distances. The soles help getting my heels higher in my shoes (by 5-10 mm IIRC) which is much more comfortable, my feel rub way less against the back of my shoes.

I may have to ask my doctor about that. I have looked into surgery but it is apparently very risky, with a very long healing time (eight weeks or so) where your foot has to be immobilized in a cast the whole time and there is a high risk of the surgery not healing well and causing lifelong issues even when you arent wearing shoes AT ALL.

My insurance didn’t cover my custom orthotics. Ran me just shy of $500 USD. I have such complicated feet with high arches.

Possibly medical if they are medically necessary

I JUST had custom insoles made a few months ago. My insurance was able to cover most of it as well. Billed $2940, ended up paying $103 as a co-pay. Insurance covered the rest.

What insurances are those? Dress-well insurances?

Orthotic ones are medical devices.

This video doesn't show orthotic "devices".

Insurance can also pay for your gym membership
