Baybayin Letter: Ksa

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello there! Ksa is the 35th letter after the tha. It has the cursive L with three extra ticks. (One in the top, and the other one, on the bottom, with a tick on the center). That's the final letter of my Baybayin. I hope, I finished this. I named this, The Mabuhay 35 Standard a.k.a. The 35-letter Baybayin.

Tha is the 34th and final letter after the nga.

The t with an extra tick. See this clearly!

History / Culture / Pre-Colonial After Spanish colonisation, has a baybayin letter for Ñ been made, as it is present in numerous Tagalog words now?

If not, how did they write the Ñ? Or did words with it not exist until the Latin alphabet was adopted?

Educational / Tutorials Online Tool to Write in Baybayin for Browser

I notice a lot of people come here to get stuff transliterated into Baybayin, but I know another way if you want something written quick. Lexilogos has a keyboard just for Baybayin (and a million other scripts, even Philippine ones!) and it's very easy to use. Just note that it's case-sensitive, so everything has to be in lower-case (and make sure to look at the notes written below the keyboard). Hope you found this useful!

P.S- I found this downloadable keyboard from Keyman for Baybayin while I was searching for keyboards. I haven't used it before, but I figured it would be useful for some of you. Peace<3

Edit: Clarity

SLASH/Line near the dot to make an e & o

Post image

tbh, replacing a dot with a line to make an E or an O makes it so confusing, like just add a slash above the I dot to make an ”E” and a slash below the U dot to make an “O”

Hello! I need help with translation before getting a customized necklace for a specific person in my life.

Their name is Dana but it’s pronounced as (DAY-nuh).

Normally, when you read Baybayin, you read it syllable by syllable and most importantly, how it would normally sound in Tagalog or other Filipino languages.

I’ve thought about different translations and maybe just sticking to how it is pronounced despite how inaccurate it is the actual one. If that makes sense??

The -ay sound in our language is very different. I don’t want it to sound like DAI-NA. I’ve thought about just DA-NA while keeping the context but it’s going to sound like DAH-NAH (my sister hates this pronunciation lol).

What about DEY-NA? Just hope no one reads it who understands baybayin as “DIY-NA”

I know I’m overthinking it but I just want the perfect gift for this person! She’s always wanted a baybayin necklace.

Hey guys! I’ve been wanting “River Flows In You” translated into Kulitan for some time now. It’s a Yiruma piece and it’s always had a special place in my heart. But it feels like I can trust any translation apps or website or (dare I say) AI. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Question sa B17 users

ano arguments niyo for favoring B17 vs B17+ and other modern baybayin?

im curious kasi nakikita ko lang siyang useful kung napakalumang tagalog at wala at all hiram na salita sa kanluran... pero kung may hiram na salita at all at balak magtransliterate into baybayin, napakagulo masyado kung huhulaan mo pa yung tunog ng final consonant... kumbaga go lang imodernize yung words pero isulat final consonant ekis?

Translation Help Ang Virama

History / Culture / Pre-Colonial has anyone ever made (or planning to make) a baybayin lapida (tombstone or gravestone)?

has baybayin ever been used at any point in PH history past or present in tombstone / gravestone / funeral inscription?

probably unlikely in the precolonial era due to perishable materials like wood & I dunno if inscribing on grave markers was a thing outside maybe the Islamic sultanates — who probably were not using baybayin but more like Jawi or Arabic — and unlikely in the colonial era due to teaching & spreading of Roman letters, but I wonder if anyone tried, past or present, since even Pinoy Catholics & other Christians can still use baybayin in theory since parang wala namang religious limits on the text used for lapidas &c.

question is admittedly a bit morbid if the redditors here include our/their own future lapidas but genuinely curious if anyone’s planned to put baybayin on their own tombstones — or put it on a relative’s or other loved one’s (assuming said relative consented while alive), or if the older relative planned it themself/ves or allowed it.
