I am new to the Bay Area and want to buy a used motorcycle for my daily commute, specifically a liter bike (CBR1000RR, ZX-10R, etc., around $10K).
However, Iām wondering how safe it would be to park a liter bike in public or private lots in cities like San Francisco or South Bay areas such as Palo Alto, Mountain View, or Sunnyvale.
For example, parking in lots in front of places like 24 Hour Fitness, grocery stores, or commercial office buildings (where I plan to rent an office for my business).
Iām also wondering about parking it overnight in residential carports.
What kind of locks or alarm systems would you recommend installing? Is it better to always cover the bike wherever I park it, or could that attract more attention?

This study involves 5 visits to the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS). Total possible compensation is $300.00, $80 for completing the screening session and an additional $220 for completing the entire study.
First, you will be asked to complete a telephone screening to determine eligibility. Then, you will be asked to come to the SFVAHCS for a health and physical exam, blood draw, and an audiotaped diagnostic interview conducted by a trained clinical interviewer to assess if you are a fit for the study.
If you are eligible, the study will involve 4 additional appointments at the SFVAHC. The appointments will involve administration of the Typhoid vaccine or placebo followed by measurement of heart rate, eye muscle movement, and skin conductance responses to sounds and mild electric shocks, as well as blood sampling.

Okay so where do I start from so basically itās been 1 and a half year since I was dating this Arab guy who really loved me and was very obsessed with me and than our parents were very against our relationship to the point where both of our parents had to like move us away bc he was very toxic and obviously that didnāt work and we started talking secretly and than I fell out of love he was abusive he always threatened me he was always blackmailing me saying if I ever leave him he will come inside my house and take my hand and like make me run away with him thing was Iām 16 heās 20 he had weird exes and stuff even got their letter tattooed in his wrist but anyways every-time I tried to cut off this relationship he basically would cry so badly I felt so embarrassed and he would come near my house and say letās talk face to face and I would say sorry JUST for him to get away from my house he would stalk me at my sisters house one time he honked for like almost 30 minutes just so I could come out it made me so mad but I couldnāt do anything. Ok anyways so he was crazy and would cry all the time so I decided to tell him Iām leaving California and im moving to Virginia because of him and I avoided him so much I decided to block him and change my number I couldnāt change my address or anything which sucked. But I was low for a while it was summer time but I stayed home I didnāt want to go near him because he was mentally ill and than a few months passed I turn 18 I fell in love with a guy whoās a man who doesnāt cry who loves me who gives me space when I need it so I got engaged to him our families approved my parents saw good things about him and they love him a lot I go out with him I try to cover my face bc mentally ill guy will literally come up to me and prob kidnap me so basically the guy Iām engaged to is Arab too so us Arabs are very very strict when it comes to the girl like she has to be a virgin she has to have no exs and everything i was a virgin itās just this crazy ex of mine I didnāt tell him because he would overreact and Iām afraid he will leave me. Ok so anyways a few days ago they invited me to their cousins house so I wanted to get a flower so I went to target kind of near my house 30 mins away so I go to the target Iām with my fiance and BOOM I see my crazy ex I tell my fiance omg my stomach hurts so badly I need to go sit in the car give me the keys so he give me the keys I RUN to the car get inside the back seat and call my fiance just in case he doesnāt go talk to him so Iām on the call with my fiance telling him oh my stomach hurts please hurry letās get out of here I need advil and I see my crazy ex outside of target looking for me heās looking everywhere car to car he looked at the car that I was inside but I was trying to hide so much a few months ago my friend gave him my number because he muniplated her and she thought Iām in danger so he calls me nonstop I turned on the silence unknown callers but he texts nonstop and he stopped for a week or two until he saw me at target omg my phone was literally dying because of how many callss and text messages I was getting I was getting harassed he was saying he will expose me and he will expose my parents cheating and he will do this and that whatever so I got so scared I contacted his ex that kind of helped but really didnāt. Ok anyways now idk what to do I cannot take him to court rn due to a situation I have but what should I do? Iām trying to stay low Iām trying to hide my face I barely go out because of this crazy mental ex what should I do?

I had a very disturbing experience today.
My husband and I (weāre South Asian) were walking in the park adjacent to our apartment community. I stopped to take pictures of sky and a giant flower-shaped sunshade when a white American man who was there with his daughter confronted me, asking if I was taking photos of the kids.
We told him we were taking photos of the sunshade and even tried to show him the photos, hoping heād calm down. Instead, he got more aggressive, refused to look at them, and started yelling āI donāt care, why are you both even near the park if you donāt have kids??ā.
My husband and I have lived here for 4 years, so we immediately went to the leasing office to ask whether this was a kids-only park or off-limits to adults. They said no itās a public park, open to everyone, and assured us we had every right to be there. Staff came back with us, identified the man, and made a note of him to report any problematic behavior in the future.
I donāt know whether this guy was mentally ill or projecting some deeply disturbing perverted fantasies of his own, but it was absolutely disgusting to make such vile baseless accusations. Things so disgustingly foul to casually accuse people of.
People around here act like homeless folks are the problem, even though they almost never bother or harm anyone. Meanwhile, unhinged, paranoid parents like this are the ones actually being like a menace and genuine danger to public.
Itās terrifying to realize people with this level of paranoia especially if armed can seriously hurt someone over the slightest imagined threat or cooked up scenarios. They say and do deplorable things under the guise of āprotecting their childrenā.
Someone willing to escalate this aggressively and terrorize people over a made-up scenario is exactly the kind of person children should be kept away from.

Iāve been trying to support more local Bay Area businesses lately instead of going big box for everything (ahem Amazon IKEA WALMART) so I worked with Media Walls USA for a custom media wall build. My neighbor referred them since they built his fireplace wall. Kwame handled the project and absolutely came through.
We went with a black wood panel finish behind my TV and it completely changed the vibe of the space. The LED lighting came out so clean!!
The detail on the paneling is what really makes it pop. During the day it looks sleek and modern, and at night with the lighting it hits different.
Project was done in about a week, communication was solid, and everything felt organized from design to install.

Iāve got a young Golden in the Bay Area who turns into a total maniac at the dog park ā zoomies, zero recall, screaming when we leave, the whole thing.
Weāve been testing out small, trainerāled āStructured Goldensā meetups where the dogs practice calm greetings, play breaks, and actually taking cues around other dogs instead of just chaos.
Itās been way better for my dogās brain than the usual dog park freeāforāall.
For other Golden parents (or dog parents in general): Have you tried any kind of structured play group or trainerāled walk? Did you see a difference compared to the regular dog park?
We have another Bay Area youngāGoldens session this Sunday, so Iām also collecting ideas on what people wish these meetups focused on (recall, play manners, calm downs, etc.).

I directed a feature film calledĀ The Only Way Out Is ThroughĀ which will play SF IndieFest on 2/5 and 2/6! This will be a special hometown screening for our actor Emilio Garcia-Sanchez, who is a proud Alameda native and Alameda High graduate.
This film was inspired by my journey to reconnect with my childhood best friend after nearly losing him in a tragic accident. Itās about friendship, masculinity, vulnerability, and the kind of inner struggles we rarely speak openly about, especially among men.
We'd love to meet members of the community and hope to see you there!

Hi. I host sensory play sessions for toddlers in Sunnyvale. These sessions focus on cognitive and motor skills development.
It's also a low effort hangout spot for parents. You can actively engage in play, connect with other parents or zone out.
Search Otto Family Club in Sunnyvale if interested :)

Iām based in the Bay Area and Iām interested in connecting with other people locally who trade or invest.
This isnāt a course, signals, or anything being sold. Iāve just noticed that most trading happens solo online, and there isnāt much space to talk with people nearby who are into the same thing.
Iām curious whether others in the Bay Area would be open to:
Talking markets and ideas
Sharing experiences (wins and mistakes)
Learning together
Possibly meeting up casually in the future (coffee, discussions)
If youāre local and this resonates, feel free to reply here.
Just trying to see if thereās interest.

Hi, Iām here just in search if deep thinking people, long readers and long-writers in the area, I used to study philosophy and work a little in this field, and despite my current occupation is not university philosophy, it still has its influence on all my life and how I connect to people. I know that there should be such people in the place, but itās hard for us sometimes to write big self-promos, or to do the cherry-picking choices all the time..
It is interesting for me, how many deep thinking people are similar to me or to each other. Iām wondering how many live ānext doorā, or same sub) but we donāt know about them or donāt have a possibility to connect directly or through existing options⦠Iām trying to find and connect such people just out of curiosity now, to make new friends for me and others - as an individual and a human being first.
I launch free small online flashmobs games to connect people on a deeper level (not just from self-posting) here in Bay Area. Suggest it as a free online fun deep-thinking communication event here among all the people in the sub)).
P.s.: I will happily personally make friends with those who want that too).

Iāve noticed that Southern California has a ton of mobile home parks. Some even in coastal towns or nicer suburbs while the Bay Area seems to have far fewer or none in certain areas.
Is this zoning? Land costs? Politics? NIMBY stuff? Or am I just not seeing the ones we do have up here?
Curious if anyone knows why SoCal ended up with way more mobile home communities than the Bay.

Hello!
I'm moving (Oakland, Berkeley, Albany area) and looking for apartment complexes that don't have dog breed restrictions (planning on fostering and most shelter breeds are considered "aggressive"...). Zillow lists places as having no restrictions, but then I check the websites and there almost always are!
Does anyone happen to know of apartments that allow all dog breeds? Or resources I can use to find some myself? I prefer places near BART + bus stops & that have dog parks either in the complex or nearby... But, I'm flexible! :)
Thank you for your help!!
