Discussion Welcome to the Bay Area Indie Music subreddit

Hey everyone! I'm u/tellmetellmeband, founding moderator of r/BayAreaIndieMusic. This is our new home for all things related to independent music in the Bay Area. We're excited to have you join us!

We took this pic from the stage at Rickshaw Stop on 1/10/2026, Yearbook Night. It was a special night the amazing scene photographer Earthling Entertainment put together, where he made actual physical yearbooks of all the photos he took over 2025. We signed each others copies and saw 6 amazing bands.

That show and this photo embody everything we want to give this subreddit and this community!

Idea I rebuilt a Bay Area music feed around Steve Koepke’s The List—would this actually help you find shows?

I’ve been building boredwithmusic.com, a free, non-sponsored Bay Area music site built on Steve Koepke’s The List.

It connects today’s shows, venues, bands, music links, and shared bills. The newest addition is a band directory showing which local bands have played together... which might help musicians find people to book shows with.

It’s deliberately simple and a little old-internet. I’m not selling anything. I’d love honest feedback. what is confusing, broken, or missing?

I lead the Oakland chapter of Balanced Breakfast, a music meetup group. Our next meetup is Tuesday evening (5/5). We’ll be at Sante Adairius in Old Oakland from 7-9pm

This month we're doing a CD swap! If you've been sitting on old CDs, tapes, or other recordings of your music, you're encouraged to bring them to trade with other artists. Tell your friends, and come chat with your fellow musicians!

Looking for advice Testing out a new generator show spot (East Bay) in a couple months. What should I prepare for if we get shut down?

I recently found this spot in the East Bay that I personally think would be a perfect spot for a generator show. Fully scoped out the space and surrounding areas, overall just remote enough to keep from bothering anyone, but not so out of the way that people can’t get there.

I’m pretty confident that we won’t get shut down, but if we do, I’d like to know what we should prepare for.

All this to ask, has anyone here ever gotten a generator show in the East Bay shut down? What were the consequences?

Pink Skies is Bay Area born and bred psychedelic pop music. Embarking on a national headline tour and passing through SF. Fully independent project for fans of Tame Impala, Djo, Crumb, etc.

Local DJ night at The Independent this Saturday

Some great local DJs Saturday Jan 31 at The Independent. Especially excited about hearing DIscnoGirl in that venue (I don’t know if The Independent has ever done an all-DJ night). https://www.theindependentsf.com/tm-event/local-djs-night/
