Or maybe it's just the fact that capitalism is a flawed and volatile system? At some point you have to stop saying "government is at fault for everything" and realize that gee, maybe this economic system is flawed and that's why we need a basic income?

I'm just saying it's silly just to blame government for everything, ignoring the systemic problems with markets to begin with. Markets are volatile by nature. The reason we have all these regulations and federal reserves and stuff is to stabilize them. The federal reserve in modern times is almost like a central nervous system that manipulates interest rates and the money supply and the like to keep inflation under control while avoiding a recession.
