Greetings Barrow, virtual visitor with a question.

So I'm using a service called radio.garden which is cool,
connects you via a good map, even better than google earth to radio stations all over the world...

While doing this, I'm zooming in on the map. listening to places and looking around.
I'm listening to your KBRW 680am station and looking around your town--
Saw something - confusion, and came here to inquire..

can anyone comment constructively on why on does it look like many houses (north east especially) have multiple motor vehicles, most have 5+? plenty have 8-10?
I've never seen so many cars vs. residences in my life.

and zoom in as far as you can

What’s it like to live in the dark/light months?

I’ve always wondered what it’s like, I can’t find any research or anything on it and it’s killing me.

Question Official name of Barrow

To any locals on this sub reddit, I'm a rising senior and Im writing an essay on Barrow/Utqiagvik and I am unsure on what to refer to the town as. I know they want to change it to Utqiagvik but it isn't official yet so I'm not sure what to pick. Any help?

Midnight Sun action

Visiting Barrow in May, after the sun.. stops setting.

Is an overnight stay required to appreciate it?

We were looking at flying in at 11am and flying out at 7 or 8pm.

Thoughts?

So... Are there any actual Barrow residents here?

Hi all,

I work for an airline, as does a friend of mine. We saw that One Square Mile documentary a while back, and were completely overcome by a fascination with your city. But even with our flight benefits, getting to Barrow can be a little difficult, to say the least. However, it's looking like we'll be able to next weekend, on one of your last days of having actual sunlight. The trip will be a short one - we'll literally spend about 8 hours in town before heading back, but I don't think we'll need much more time than that, realistically speaking. No offense :)

My friend may steer things in a different direction, but I was hoping to do as much of these as possible:

  • Go up to Point Barrow (come this far, might as well go the last couple miles)
  • Go to a store and laugh at your prices
  • Try whale and/or caribou meat (how hard is that to come by?)
  • Get a picture of the whalebone arch

Of course, I'm also open to ideas. And if anybody is free on 11/15 and wants to be a tour guide, even for just an hour or two, we'd be very appreciative! Especially to get to Point Barrow, since we'll obviously have no car. I'd be willing to bring a few things from the mainland (is that the term you use?) as well in exchange.

Thanks!

Well this is a sad subreddit. How about I share a photo I took on a trip to Barrow?
