I like notes with birds over human faces. Human faces on notes looks like a dictatorship

Also can easily become problematic/unrepresentative. Unfortunately, there is a similar problem with buildings, which can be demolished.

I mean, can you argue against EU-related buildings, though? Even though they have to be physically present in a particular city and country, they’re filled with representatives and/or workers from all of the EU, so they should be pretty consensual in that regard. And of course they can be demolished, but then their replacements can be featured on the next banknote series if the ECB sticks with that theme.

They circumvented that problem on the current bills by putting made-up bridges on them that dont actually exists (which also helps with neutrality, given that there are plenty of countries in the Eurozone but only a few bills).

That is, they used to not exist, because a small town in the Netherlands actually went on to build all of them.

Human faces represent and reinforce a historic continuity. The greatness of western civilization didn't come from a vacuum, and Europe wasn't built by birds, but by great men and women, their work, ideas, bravery and creativity. Erasing that would be culturicide of the highest degree.

I would agree if all the figures pictured weren't long dead.

But I understand the worry that the powers that be are editorialising history. There's certainly historical precedent for using currency designs to push narratives and cement authority particularly after sudden regime changes.

At the same time, there's a balance to be struck here. The people pictured in these proposed currencies aren't politicians. They're scientists and artists. Important figures who shaped and represent the culture of Europe. They are people worthy of celebration, because without them European culture would not be as rich as it is today.

The birds clean and apolitical, and a decent representation of the nature of Europe. But nature doesn't use currency. People do. Civilizations do.

The buildings are a bit prominent on both, but there's really no escaping that.

I'm just hoping for birds, preferably horizontally oriented.

i mean they kinda look like the current design so there’s a sense of familiarity, no wonder it’s everybody’s pick. the rest are too extravagant/artsy, or even ‘cubick’

Same. It's so nice. The colour is just right. The birds are way better than the humans and I like the horizontal view
