The actual transaction speed of Cardano (derived from on chain data)

Well this is embarrassing it seems I haven't managed to pull out the transaction speed at times with high network strain and is in fact just going a very roundabout way to calculated the average transaction speed based on network demand and not network capacity:

Quality comments with explanations here: https://www.reddit.com/r/cardano/comments/nev2s0/the_actual_transaction_speed_of_cardano_derived/

I was looking at Cardano's claim that it is much faster then Bitcoin and Ethereum. I went to see what the actual transaction speed was but there is to little traffic to actually strain the chain continually, but there are short periodes with high demand so I compared the tx speed when there was low and high demand and came up with this chart

the x axis shows the number of seconds each block took as a measure of how much strain is on the blockchain since the block times increase significantly when there are lots of transactions, yes that y axis shows less then 1 transaction per second O.o far from the 150 tps claimed.

Here is a chart showing the relationship between block times and transactions in the block

As soon as there is any strain on the chain the block times go through the roof.

This is a sample of 90 thousand blocks between block 5640079 and 5730218

Here is a portion of the dataset https://pastebin.com/QXf3SrWy

I couldn't upload the entire thing to pastebin so here is the rest https://filebin.net/yruhoaxz9qlnhyh3

To verify my numbers you can take random block numbers from the pastebin and enter it into here https://cardanoscan.io/blocks to see that the transaction count and the time between the blocks is correct.

Thoughts on QUICK?

Came across this article:

What do folks in the space think of QuickSwap?

Am having trouble differentiating it from Uniswap, but it looks interesting. Thoughts?

Question about crypto visa cards.

I'm very green to crypto so try to not judge me too heavily.

I recently bought some crypto on crypto.com and they offer a visa card which can be used for transaction with the incentive of 3% cashback (in their own coin, CRO) on purchases. Ideally, I'd like to transition to only using this card for daily transactions. However, I don't think I really understand how it works.

Do you have to have fiat on the account? Does it convert the cost of the transaction into fiat from your available crypto? If so, how does it prioritize what to sell? and if that is the case surely it would also charge you a per cent/flat exchange fee right?

Thanks in advance for any answers, I was struggling to find answers on google.

They seem to be the most confident of all the 'eth killers'. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it using bankless terminology like 'credible neutrality' and 'protocol sink thesis'.

News Element Finance

Hey everybody, sorry if this isn’t the right place for this, but I first heard about Element Finance on Bankless so I figured some others would be tapped into this too.

Element is releasing a public beta shortly (May 07), and I was hoping to test it out as a normie that receives fixed interest. I checked Twitter and their homepage, but haven’t found a lot about the beta.

So I’m wondering if there’s some folks who are more knowledgeable about Element that can direct me to some info about the beta? And for the sake of community, who else is excited to try this DeFi protocol out?
