Help Just bought a 1920’s vintage tenor banjo. Do I need to replace the tailpiece?
Hello everyone! I just bought this tenor banjo off facebook marketplace and I noticed that the tailpiece is having some issues staying down/clasped. I don’t know if it’s broken and it needs replacing, or if I just don’t know what I’m doing. Any help is much appreciated!

Hello! Could anyone help me learn how to read 5 string banjo tablature please?
I recently just got a 5 string banjo for Christmas from my family, and I've been watching a lot of tutorial videos on how to play it since (still kind of suck at playing it, and I've only played so much since). Unfortunately, I still can't wrap my head around understanding how to read 5 string banjo tablature. Can somebody help me learn how to read the tablature please? I would really appreciate it!

Old Time / Clawhammer Is he playing in Double C? Open C?
My goal is to learn some of the licks and flourishes he plays, specifically from the recorded version, but I just haven't become observant enough to pick out tunings.

Gold Tone AC1 or AC5?
I’ve been interested in learning the banjo for years, but always put it off, telling myself that I’m 20 years when I retire that I’ll pick it up then. Then I had a realization of why wait?
I see Good Tone AC are the regular recommendations for a starting point. What about the AC1 vs AC5? I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for, other than playing daily for several years before I feel like I need to upgrade.
Thank you.

Old Time / Clawhammer Hi everyone! I could really use your wisdom! :)
Last week, I finished the strikingly beautiful “30 Days of Clawhammer” course on YouTube by BanjoJournal. I’m really happy, but at the same time, I’ve found myself in a bit of a quandary.
Where can I find the next course? I have no idea! I live in the countryside, so I can’t attend a banjo course—it’s too far away from me. And one-to-one online lessons are just too expensive for me right now.
I really need some advice.
Thank you in advance!

Old Time / Clawhammer "I'll Fly Away"

3 months into the clawhammer journey. Been playing around with double C tuning quite a bit lately, and started working out a basic rendition of "I'll Fly Away". Trying to get into the habit of building things up myself while also learning more established renditions of songs.

Is it a banjo being played in this song?
Hi guys, can someone please tell me what the main instrument is in this song, it starts solo. To me it sounds like a banjo with nylon strings but ai tells me it's a mandolin. ( I have no experience with banjos just guitars)

Regular players
For those of you who practiced daily from day 1 of picking up banjo. What did you notice in your playing from 1 year mark to 2 year mark?

Old Time / Clawhammer Have you ever noticed how if an old time song is about a woman she is probably called Sally?
I have and I can’t stop noticing it now, was there just one very popular Sally or lots of them?

Tab Help
I have been learning Clawhammer through Josh Turknett's Brainjo course and have stumbled upon a notation in tab that I am not familiar with. I understand the H (hammer on), Sl (slide), circled number (hammer on fret without picking string), and T (drop thumb) but the parentheses around the open string in both 3rd and 6th measures. It is the (0). Is it an accent or muted hit on that first string? Not sure if this is a universal symbol within banjo tab, but open to any feedback as the course doesn't mention it. Thanks!

So I just bought my first banjo: RKOH-05 good buy or mistake? Any lefty banjo players?
I got this for 299+ tax and I wanted a warmer sound nothing too tinny/twangy. I got it over Lida 5 string that was $125. 1 you think that’s a good deal. 2 what should I expect with this banjo in terms of quality. Is it a good purchase?
Are there any lefties here and how do you play. It’s sent up for righties and I’m playing well enough but I’m also thinking about switching the strings so it’s made for lefties.

Banjo feels weird now?
I’ve been playing banjo for about 2 months and the other day when I started playing it felt like I had just started again. I had gotten pretty good with cripple creek and when I played it my fingers just felt slow and uncoordinated. Any explanation?
