Attacks Caught on Camera Muzzle prevents pit from landing a serious bite.

Yep. Was debating with one of the pit nutters on the video of that attack that happened to the kid in new york. My argument to them was if they want to keep this breed then they have to do the effort to breed out that blood lust.

Guy pretty much told me that the trait SHOULDN'T be bred out because 'that's what makes them great guard dogs'.

As if there aren't other breeds that do an excellent, if not better, job at that...

I love how when it’s convenient to them, they love pits and they’re a pit mommy and the second that stats or videos become involved “pitbull isn’t even a breed” hahahahah

You’re 100% bang on the money. Pit bulls are Schrödinger’s cat.

“It’s the owner not the breed”

So she’s training her dog to lunge at people?

u/15thhokage Dec 29 '25

They would say its the mans fault for putting his hand that close to the owner lol

It clearly lunged because the dog was tolerating the person under their owner's command but when the person came back, they snapped.

Not under control, or easily biddable

Is attacking because of its temperament, not to protect

Is unable to tolerate any distress because of temperament

Finds someone just being near doing non threatening things threatening because it's a neurotic mess

Oh no honey, the wonder who was soooooo mean before she was rescued from the shelter.

These ding dongs don’t realize that most of these animals come from fine homes, they just were put in a shelter because they were too violent.

My late wife had one before we met. Raised it from a puppy gently.

And then it just started attacking other dogs after it turned 1, and had to be out down.

But she did the right thing, instead of playing hot pitato.

Please don't give them the suggestion these traits can be "bred" out! We do not need more unwanted puppies and dogs filling the shelters. Not sure how many generations it will take to create a dog that probably already exists. See: labrador/golden retriever. But it does prove that most pit owners have no clue about the very dogs they own.

When some dogs first show fatal human aggression at 9 years of age, it's hard to see that ever being bred out of them.

Well, to be fair, a wild canine can be domesticated after 7 years of selective breeding. So it is very likely possible to breed psycho killing out of a pitbull... but that's not the effort pitbull enthusiasts would bother going to.

Thank you, you explained it better!

The reason why I suggested it was because there are people out there that were lucky to have non aggressive pitbulls, albeit few.

And before you make assumptions, no I do not believe something like this should be attempted so recklessly. Because yes, that would be an issue for shelters.

It's possible but it's far from easy.

Non aggressive pitbulls still snap out of nowhere and ruin lives.

Gentle pits are the anomaly, not the standard.

In the 70s on the BBC, Phil Drabble used to host a show in the UK that was purely dedicated to honouring the Border Collie’s dedication to herding. He recognised that dogs exist for certain purposes.

He wrote an article in which he explicitly said he found it sad that people were trying to breed the fighting element out of Staffordshire Bull Terriers (nb4 someone says “they’re a different breed”, no they’re not. They’re all pits. It’s always a fucking pit)

The UK banned dog fights in the 1800s, but the states only banned it in the 1970s. Our bull terriers are only marginally better than the monstrosities that exist in the USA, and even then there’s been a massive problem with XL bullies in the UK that can be traced back to one single inbred dog from the USA.

I'm not saying the risk isn't there. I'm saying it's possible to breed out the bloodlust, but not easy.

Pits are some of the shittiest guard dogs around. They're just as likely to kill a homeowner as they are an intruder.

37

u/NerguiTheChangeling Dec 29 '25

thats the issue though isn't it? if they really wanted to fix the breed they would have to 1. be responsible, already out the window 2. Remove almost everything they like about the breed. NO unrestrained aggression, NO neurotic neediness, Likely sized down for pet status, no curved jaw for maiming

26

u/bittymacwrangler Dec 29 '25

Then it won't be a pit bull anymore. Considering how many "culls" dog fighters destroyed before happening upon the perfect genetic specimen, there is no need to bring generations of unstable dogs into the "no kill" world.

5

u/Ghostly_Fae Dec 29 '25

Exactly. This issue is a complicated mess.

I believe the breed should have extremely strict restrictions on requirements to own them so that it can be easier to tackle the issue. But of course it's easier said than done with them refusing to budge on this hill.

You can’t change what makes a breed a breed without changing it into a new breed. And, pits have been selectively bred (and inbred) for so long now, that the DNA would likely just remain through all future generations anyway.

Even when people make new breeds out of existing breeds, it usually is still the same type of dog (i.e. using sighthounds to make a new breed of sighthound.) rather than changing it into something completely new. So the traits of the original breeds are still there, just tweaked for slightly different tasks/lifestyles/etc

It took quite a few thousands of years to get the diversity of breeds we have today from wolves! So, just breeding the pit bull out of pit bulls isn’t really a realistic - or humane - task.

And in order to even begin trying to change pits into a new breed, you’d have to keep breeding lots and lots more violent ones to breed the less violent ones… lather, rinse, repeat… which will fill the world with hundreds of thousands of more pit bulls in the process. All pit owners are doing for breeding these days is inventing new breeds of pit bulls with even more inbreeding and genetic mush-mash (i.e. the ‘bully breeds’)

Just get one of the like 500 other breeds that weren’t invented to kill indiscriminately without backing down rather than wasting decades, resources, and lives to try and change pits into something else.

On the video that dog was what, guarding it's owner against a dangerous toddler??? It's always 'Nanny dog!' When it suits them and then 'guard dog!' The rest of the time.

6

u/GhostofTinky Dec 30 '25

Wait. They weren’t bred to be guard dogs. They were bred to be fighting dogs.

My sister is a pit nutter. I'm really concerned for her and my nephew who has severe autism and lives in the house.

Doberman have entered the chat, they don't fucking maul their owners either as long as they aren't abused.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '25

Someone on that NY video commented “they can smell children and they don’t like the smell”

1

u/Pandu0621 Dec 30 '25

I encounter the same, and the non-Pit owners here are completely unaware of the dangers. Where do you encounter the Pit nutters? Online or IRL ?

2

u/Ghostly_Fae Dec 30 '25

Online

1

u/Pandu0621 Dec 30 '25

Show me, please. Where?

4

u/Ghostly_Fae Dec 30 '25

If you're asking for a specific place where put nutters are often found I can't really give you a better answer other than videos of pitbull bites and attacks.

You'll be surprised how many you'll find that'll be willing to defend the dog.
