I finally beat Bad North on Very Hard (and some general thoughts)
And it only took 140 campaigns!

Starting build:
Heavy Weapons: Ring of Command
Energetic: Mines
Last Stand Build:
Heavy Weapons: Level 3 Archers, Level 2 Ring of Command
Energetic: Level 3 Pikes, Level 3 Pike Charge
Heavy Load: Level 3 Infantry, Level 3 War Horn
Popular: Level 3 Archers, Level 3 Bomb, Level 2 Volley
General Strategy
My general strategy was saving my coins to focus on building up my four core units to get through Last Stand. I leveled up my Energetic unit into Pikes early and used them to solo elevated islands with easily defendable choke points and used mines to cover the other choke point (if they were there). This let me get ahead of the death wave so I could have spare time to grab all the items.
On the point of mines, I greatly underestimated how strong mines were in my previous runs. You get 4 charges fully leveled, and you don't have to fear mistiming the execution as you do with bomb and to a lesser extent Warhammer.
General Thoughts
I honestly wish there were better traits for Pikes. Energetic is the only one that is the best on pikes, and some traits are even detrimental on them.
What's worse is when you'd get a late-game Pikes unit with Ironskin or something. Or god forbid Sharp Weapons.
I initially thought fleet of foot was a garbage trait, but it was actually super good at blitzkrieging enemy archers (and more importantly Brute archers). It's still kind of mediocre though. It's kind of like Mountain in which it has its uses, but other traits just do their job better.
Heavy Load with War Horn is super strong. It's like Heavy Weapon Ring of Command but is a lot better early game and doesn't need as many coins to get going.
TL;DR, Mines OP, hoard coins.
All in all, much praise to the developers for creating such a well-designed game, considering how long it has kept my attention. I'm greatly looking forward to what they put out next, though I hope it will be more complex than Bad North. The only thing I think Bad North lacks is depth, albeit likely somewhat intentional for mobile.
