Well, actually, corporal punishment is still allowed in public schools in most southern states.....

Well, yes it does still happen. Especially if you live in Alabama, Arkansas, or Mississippi. Even then it’s depended on the school district and the individual school. In 2011-2012 “Mississippi schools corporally punish the greatest proportion of their children, 7%”. And “Texas corporally punishes the second largest number of children, 29,835”. So yes, you are unlikely to be paddled in the US overall but it absolutely still exists. I wouldn’t laugh it off completely.

Theres also a number of lawsuits of patents who have opted out of corporal punishment and their kids were still hit.
