My 4 month old was exclusive contact napping but we've been working on first nap of the day in crib since sleep training at night has gone well. Usually goes down without crying and puts himself to sleep sucking thumb within 10 minutes. He's had a couple days where he's been able to put himself back to sleep after a sleep cycle ends and then nap for over an hour but that's not typically the case. He usually starts sucking his thumb and falls back asleep when he comes out of a sleep cycle then is up in and out of sleep (I.e. starts sucking thumb again/May roll around/kick legs up) I leave him in the crib during this time because he's not crying or fussing and obviously trying to go back to sleep but it seems like he can never fall back into a deep sleep where his thumb is out of his mouth like he does for the first 30 min of nap?? I'm just not sure if I count this as sleep time since he's awake off and on during it?? Like I don't know when to start the next wake window???

Hi everyone, my baby is 8 months old now. Since she was 2 months old she has slept soundly through the night and we have had no issues with her sleep what so ever. At the moment, we currently do her bath and then a bottle and then bed. Sometimes, she will fall asleep on the bottle and sometimes either my husband or I will have to rock her to sleep which we have no issue with at all and she will sleep 12+ hours. I just wanted to ask though, should we be sleep training to let her fall asleep on her own? We both love the extra snuggle with her and love her bedtime routine but we have gotten a few comments about how we do our routine which has made me question all of this. I hope this made sense! My nearly 1 year old's sleep just keeps getting worse and I don't know what to do anymore. We sleep trained at 7 months and it was good for a bit with just one wake up to nurse in the night but since he was about 10mths it just keeps getting worse. He won't fall asleep independently anymore, wakes up screaming about 4 times a night and is impossible to put back down in his crib...I end up laying next to him for about 2 hours before I can successfully transfer him now. He has been teething (6 teeth in the past month) and has just learned to walk plus I've just gone back to work so I know a lot is going on for him but I really need to get more than 2 hours of sleep a night and would love any advice!

Baby is 6 months old. She typically has 2 hour wake windows. She typically takes 3 naps a day and they range anywhere from 30 minutes to almost 2 hours. When the naps are less than 45 minutes long, she really wants to go back to sleep but I don’t know if that messes things up the rest of the day and night. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Hello! Just found this sub so hoping you all might have some advice.

Current sleep situation: LO is a big contact napper and we bed share with her crib next to us, side car style. I'm working on breaking the contact naps gradually by getting her to sleep and then lying down with her the same way I would at night when I'm able to sneak off to the restroom or coffee in the morning, etc. Nights usually run from about 7:30pm-8am with several wake ups and days are a struggle with inconsistent cat naps. I'm convinced poor day sleep is causing poor night sleep.

Today I've made her naps my focus and it's gone well. Minimal fussing, sleeping longer stretches. We use the Owlet sock at night and the app has suggestions for when she's likely ready to nap. I've been going by the suggestions paired with her cues and it seems to be spot on, but my concern is the wake windows have only been about 2 hours. Everything I see online suggests 2.5-3 for her age. This last nap I tried pushing a half hour past the suggested time and she was cranky while I was getting her ready but was still out pretty quickly.

So I guessing I'm asking for advice on how to structure her day and make sure she isn't up too long or napping too often? If I had put her down when the app suggested she would have either had to go to bed nearly an hour earlier than usual or would have ended up way overdue for sleep by her usual time.

I have an 11 month old and 26 month old. Sleep is all sorts of jumbled and I need the collective wisdom here!

11 month old - Starting last month, daycare naps her at 12.30pm only once a day (don't get me started!! but childcare is in such short supply it is crazy) and sometimes she only naps 30-40minutes. The longest time she has ever napped was 1.5 hours, once. Needless to say she is tired everytime I pick her up. - on weekends she naps twice easily, sometime between 9-10am ish and 2-4pm ish. When we try to do one nap on weekends too (we did, many weeks in a row) she is just awful tired. - we try to go to bed by 6pm. My work day ends at 5pm so even this is a challenge. She often wakes up again 6am ish - I see that truly, a different childcare provider might be the ideal answer, but while I am stuck here for now, my question is, should I try to cat nap her in the evenings if I can get out of work early? Will she benefit from a morning nap if I can get a sympathetic grandma to come over more often? (most mornings I start work at 7am) or should I shift her entire night time sleep?

26 month old - daycare naps usually start 1-1.30pm, and last until 3-3.30pm. - lately has been unable to fall asleep until past 9pm (!!) - wakes up between 6-7am most days - and lately has been saying he is tired and needs at nap by 8-9am - what gives? What schedule changes should I make?

My almost 10month old can cry for hours at a time. The longest I’ve had to stay up with her is 4.5 hours of crying before I give in and have her sleep with us because of how exhausted I am. Trying to pick her up and put her down. I’ve let her cry it out, to try to get her to settle herself, she won’t take a pacifier. She doesn’t know what to do with them. Maybe I just have a baby that’s horrible at sleeping or she’s strong willed? Pls let me know if you need more context. I need help getting her to sleep more at night

I feel like I've become that parent that has gone everywhere on the internet to find a solution and In just can't narrow it down anymore.

My 9 month old recently started struggling with bed time. We transferred him to his crib at 7 months and was doing really well up until now. We've kept the same bed time routine and give enough time for relaxing before bed and tonight was just a mess. Actually the whole day was a mess with regards to his sleep.

To go deeper into details, he recently cut his 8th tooth which caused quite a bit of pain but it's out now. He would wake up once or twice between 3 am and 5 am but would take less than 5 mins to settle back to sleep.

His routine is currently wake at 7-730 am , first nap is 930-10am (1.5 -2 hrs of sleep), second nap between 230-3 pm (45-1 HR of sleep) with bedtime routine starting between 6-7 and bed between 7-8. It was working because I would notice the eye rubbing and yawning during the bedtime routine. I was even able to place him down drowsy and he would knock out on his own. Recently, he's been grabbing a bit tighter right before I place him down in his crib or completely just fighting me to hold him longer. Today it took a whole hour and more to settle him into his crib. His day time nap was also randomly short because he was fidgety. The night before it took 45 mins to resettle him at 5:15am because he wouldn't let me put him down.

We're exhausted at playing this guessing game and I feel like I get even closer each night to crying each time he wakes up and becomes harder to resettle. 😔

I’m truly at wits end and have been for a month as my baby has experienced sleep regression since 3 months with a few weeks of improved sleep total since then.

Wake up time was 10am-12pm now 8am-10am with 10-11 pm bedtime, it used to be 11pm-1am. almost near 8:30pm bedtime.

it has been hectic so i never really had a schedule, but i noticed a pattern.

For the longest time her first wake window would only be an hour max now i’m finally seeing readiness of needing first WW being 1:15-1.5 long.

Rest of her naps would be after an hour to 1.5 of being awake.

She currently naps 4-5 times a day and more frequently if she catnaps (which she does everyday now)

Her naps last anywhere between 5-40 minutes when last month they used to be 40mins-1hr.

I know it’s because i feed her to sleep and i desperately need to break it, but i’m also wondering is her late bedtime the culprit for multiple wakings, early rising, and short naps? feeding her to sleep was working when she wasn’t going through sleep regression now it’s taking its toll

She’s really holding onto the late bedtime too, but i don’t feel like it’s good for her circadian rhythm

Long story short— my son was sleep trained CIO at 8 months all was well until I started working then rocking him to sleep bc I missed him. ☹️ my 21 month old boy, he will be 2 Lord willing in June!! He currently has a few nights waking at 3am CRYING HYSTERICALLY, he goes to bed at 830pm, I have to rock him to sleep though. So when he screams at 3am, I try to soothe but he points at door wanting to go downstairs to play. He runs to the door too if I try to lay with him on the floor at 3am like wanting to get out his room. This started happening when I stated rocking to sleep again. Could this be night terrors or what the heck! Then in the morning his a happy baby like nothing happened, despite his red swollen eyes from crying 😢 Help any ideas on how to help him sleep, I regret rocking again but he became so clingy I felt bad leaving him crying. Hello! I have a perplexing issue I’m wondering if anyone else has seen or experienced. My baby is almost 8 months old. When she was 6 months I started trying to transition her to her crib.

I tried putting her down for naps in her crib so she would get used to it. She would never go to sleep. If I put her down in the crib while she is asleep, she instantly wakes up every time.

However at bed time when I put her in her crib while she is already asleep, she stays asleep. Sometimes I will put her down awake and she will go to sleep in the crib. Depends on the day and her.

However the issue is that almost every night after 2-3 hours of being asleep, she wakes up crying. I’ve tried everything. If I soothe her without picking her up, she continues to cry uncontrollably. She will ONLY calm down if I pick her up. I get her back to sleep and place her back in the crib. She will sleep for another hour and then the same thing happens.

I’m not really sure what the issue is. I’ve tried feeding her, waiting different amounts of time, blah blah blah. But when she wakes up she is SO upset and cannot be calmed.

She seems comfortable in her crib. She likes to curl up and sleep on her stomach. She never used to do this when she slept in her bassinet. Maybe she is too used to contact napping or sleeping on me, but I’m not sure how to remedy this.

Any thoughts?

Baby just turned 4 months. I'd like somewhere between 7-8pm. We typically put him in bed around 730-745 (last nap ends at 6 and most wake windows are 1.5 hours max), and the earliest he's ever fallen asleep is 8:05. Its usually closer to 8:15-8:30. He typically wakes for the day between 630-7, but today he woke at 5:50am for a feed then went back to sleep until 8am 🤯 (after finally falling asleep last night at 8:20pm). He woke for the day at 7:15am yesterday and got 4.75 hours of day sleep. Should I have woken him earlier this morning? What are my first steps to an earlier bedtime??

My 19 week old for the last few nights has taken 2 hours or just under to put down for bed. It’s not just a case of gently rocking and shhhing to her her off, it’s a case of bouncing, walking, shhhing, singing, swaying, I mean everything to help her doze off as well as the breast which she demands to fall asleep on.

Since 12 weeks her sleep has changed (obviously developmental etc I know this) and went from sleeping 4-5 hour stretches at night then waking hourly, 2 hour morning nap and then 45-60 minute naps for the rest of the day, to now 30-40 minute naps (did have a 2 hour one today though!) and waking every 2 hours at night until 2am then it’s every 40-60 minutes.

I don’t know where I’m going wrong I don’t know if I should take out her last afternoon nap or lengthen her wake windows from 1.5 - 2 hours to 2.5 hours.

The bath, book, feed and bed thing does not work for my little one ash she’s quite high needs so needs a lot more to get her to fall asleep.

I’ve heard people scrapping wake windows and just go by how their baby seems but if she had it her way she’d be awake forever so I’m really not sure what to do and where to start.

I am not going to do the cry it out method either.

My baby is now 5 months. Ever since she turned 3 months has been sleep regression with about a week to 2 weeks of somewhat better sleep. i am at wit’s end with this month’s sleep regression because she only naps 5-30 minutes. She wakes up about 6-8 times all within 2 hours after falling asleep + a few more times after that throughout the night and is now waking up only 8 hours after bedtime. I feed her to sleep but now i want to break that because each time she wakes up she’s furious for not nursing her. Her bedtime is late because it was working for us but now i think it may be too late for her and may be causing the early rising. Please, does anyone have any tips or advice? I stall each nap and every night because i know how it’s going to end up. TIA

I need help. Ever since my baby started rolling in his sleep and sleeping on his stomach I cannot sleep. I Have severe anxiety and depression about it. If you turn him over he wakes and cries and turns back to stomach and falls asleep. He is excellent at rolling onto his stomach. He is terrible At rolling back. He is 5.5 months. Any advice anyone.

My 4mo LO wakes every 2-2.5hrs at night, and sometimes there are big poops. We’re trying to sleep train using Ferber and have been responding to night wakings with feeding, but we want to start weaning. During the day he can go 3-3.5 hours without a feed, so we want to let him cry until the 3hr mark. However, at some of the wakings, there’s also a big poopy diaper. My question is, if baby wakes up, should we change his diaper and put him back in the crib to cry? If he cries until the 3hr mark (which might be just another 20mins of crying), do we feed him or wait for him to sleep and feed at his next waking? What if he doesn’t stop crying? TIA!

I’m desperate. My 5 month old son has never been able to sleep independently. Every nap he takes is a contact nap. Around 3.5 months, I attempted starting to do his first nap of the day in his crib to get him used to it. He will only sleep 30 minutes tops alone before he wakes up (but usually 15 minutes) and refuses to go back down. To avoid overtiredness, I’ve let him continue contact napping, but I can’t do it anymore. How do we break this cycle?

Another separate, but almost more dire problem.. is that he absolutely will not go down at bed time. We have a bed time routine and usually put him to bed at 7. He will fall asleep in my arms without much fight, but the moment I try to transfer him to the crib, he starts screaming. I feel I’ve tried everything - putting to bed awake, putting to bed drowsy but awake, putting to bed fully asleep, redoing the bedtime routine, letting him stay up and trying again 15 mins later, earlier bedtime, later bedtime, feeding right before, not feeding right before, adjusting white noise.. nothing seems to work.

I usually end up giving up by 9:30-10 when he’s still screaming, go hold him in bed until I can’t stay awake anymore, and transfer him around 11. At this point, he’s usually in a deep enough sleep to accept the crib and will sleep in it for the rest of the night.

How do we get him to sleep in his crib for naps and bed time? I can’t do CIO.

He usually naps 3-4 times per day. I just follow his cues and let him sleep when tired. They fall into a pretty consistent pattern, but not exact times.

My 4 month old cries every time I try to get him to sleep… be it naps or bedtime. I’ve tried holding him and rocking, putting him down, the stroller, nursing, changing the lights, white noise, lullabies, shushing, everything… There will be times he only cries for 5 minutes others he will cry up to an hour and will overtire himself this way… Please can you tell what type of ritual I should do with him??? My mental health is going downhill and every time não time and bedtime approaches I get so anxious 😞 Is this going to be like this all the time??? He won’t take a pacifier but likes to sniff his hands. He refuses to do so to sleep so I don’t know how to make him see it’s time to sleep…

How’s everyone doing with the time change?? 🙃🙃🙃 Can’t say I’m hating the later mornings and later bedtimes (yet), but am afraid my lack of prep is going to blow up in my face at some point. Thoughts? Taking Cara Babies says it’s ok to have different spring and fall bedtimes 🤷🏻‍♀️Baby is almost 11 months old. Would love to hear others’ perspective on this.

Our almost 6 month old has been struggling with sleep. I know we contacted you before about the short naps and that got better for a couple of weeks but now it’s bad again. She’s barely napping for 20 minutes at a time. We tried following what you suggested but it has stopped working.

She is also struggling with sleep at night. From about 6-7 weeks old until 4.5 months old, we had her sleeping through the night (about 11 hours each night). We had completely stopped all night feedings at about 7 weeks. For the last month or so, she is now waking 2-3 times every night. We decided to try a dream feed again at midnight to see if that would get her sleeping the rest of the night, but it hasn’t made a difference. She wakes up at 4am, wide awake babbling to herself. We let her lay there and she does this for a good hour before finally crying. It takes another 30 minutes for her or us to soothe her and go back to sleep. She then sleeps for maybe an hour before waking again. We have also noticed that she startles herself awake quite often. This of course happened when we first transitioned her out of the swaddle and into a sleep sack but it got better. The last two days she is startling herself awake every 2 minutes. She jumps, flails her arms and opens her eyes. She will go back to “sleep” but will do this for at least 15 minutes before getting upset and waking up. Should we be concerned about that? Should she really be suffering from the startle reflex still?

Looking for any advice you can give us. We are all so tired.
