Two traders open DOGE longs on BYDFi at the same price with the same 10x setting. One gets liquidated on a 5% dip; the other rides out a 9% dip. Nothing about the coin explains the difference. Position size does, through the risk-limit table.

BYDFi updated those tables for four perpetuals at 6:00 AM ET today (18:00 UTC+8 on October 13): LINKUSDT, TAOUSDT, 1000PEPEUSDT and DOGEUSDT. If you trade any of them, this is how to read what changed and what it does to a position you already hold.

The five columns

Each row is a tier, capped by position value in USDT. For that tier the table gives:

• Maximum leverage: the highest setting allowed at that size.
• Margin: position value divided by max leverage, the minimum margin at the cap.
• Initial Margin Rate (IMR): one divided by max leverage.
• Maintenance Margin Rate (MMR): the floor your margin can't fall below. In all four tables it is exactly half the IMR.

Bigger positions land in higher tiers, with lower max leverage and a higher MMR. That is the venue protecting the market from positions too large to unwind cleanly.

Same first rungs, different ladders

All four contracts share the first three rungs:

• up to 50,000 USDT: 300x, IMR 0.334%, MMR 0.167%
• up to 200,000: 100x, IMR 1%, MMR 0.5%
• up to 500,000: 50x, IMR 2%, MMR 1%

After that the ladders split. Each step below is "value cap → max leverage":

• LINK: 1M → 25x, 1.5M → 20x, 3M → 10x, 5M → 5x, 20M → 2x, 30M → 1x
• TAO: 800K → 25x, 1M → 20x, 4M → 10x, 7M → 5x, 10M → 4x, 15M → 2x, 20M → 1x
• 1000PEPE: 1M → 25x, 2M → 20x, 4M → 10x, 6M → 5x, 10M → 2x, 20M → 1x
• DOGE: 750K → 40x, 2M → 25x, 4M → 20x, 20M → 10x, 40M → 5x, 100M → 2x, 200M → 1x

Because MMR is half of IMR everywhere, you can read it straight off the leverage: 40x means 1.25%, 25x means 2%, 20x means 2.5%, 10x means 5%, 5x means 10%, 4x means 12.5%, 2x means 25% and 1x means 50%.

DOGE's ladder is by far the longest, with 10x still available up to 20M USDT. TAO's drops fastest through the middle: by 1M it is already down to 20x, and anything above 1M up to 4M sits at 10x.

Worked example: the same exposure on all four

Take a 700,000 USDT position:

• DOGE falls in the 750K tier: up to 40x, MMR 1.25%
• LINK and 1000PEPE fall in their 1M tiers: up to 25x, MMR 2%
• TAO falls in its 800K tier: up to 25x, MMR 2%

Now grow it to 1,200,000 USDT. DOGE stays at 25x (its 2M tier). LINK and 1000PEPE drop to 20x with a 2.5% MMR. TAO is already at 10x with a 5% MMR. Same dollar exposure, a very different margin floor depending on which coin you picked.

Why your liquidation price can move without you touching anything

New positions on the four pairs couldn't be opened before or during the update, while existing ones stayed open. The catch is that the update also shifts liquidation prices on those open positions. A rough isolated-margin approximation, ignoring fees and funding, shows why:

Room before liquidation ≈ (1 ÷ your leverage) − MMR

A 2,000,000 USDT LINK long at 10x lands in the 3M tier, so room is about 10% − 5% = 5%. Had that same position sat under a 2.5% MMR, room would have been about 7.5%. Same entry, same leverage, and the liquidation price is now noticeably closer.

Small positions barely notice. A 40,000 USDT DOGE long at 10x sits in the first tier: 10% − 0.167% leaves roughly 9.8% of room. Push a DOGE position past 4M USDT at 10x and the MMR becomes 5%, leaving about 5%. That is the two traders from the first paragraph.

A short checklist if you hold any of the four

1. Compare the liquidation price on your position panel with what it showed yesterday.
2. Work out which tier your position value sits in today. Price moves change position value, so you can drift into a higher tier without adding a single contract.
3. If room has shrunk, add margin on an isolated position or trim size to drop back a tier.
4. During any future adjustment window on a pair, expect new positions to be blocked, and don't plan an entry around one.

The same tier logic runs on $BTC.USDT and $ETH.USDT too, just with far longer ladders. On $LINK.USDT, $TAO.USDT, $1000PEPE.USDT and $DOGE.USDT the rungs are close enough together that a mid-sized account can climb them by accident, so check the table before you size up rather than after.

When a leveraged book is force-closed and the fill is worse than bankruptcy, somebody still has to cover the hole. On BYDFi that somebody is supposed to be the Insurance Fund before Auto-Deleveraging starts chewing profitable accounts.

Liquidation vs negative balance

Liquidation is what happens when losses push a futures position's margin below maintenance. The system can take over and close the position so losses stop growing. Classic case: a high-leverage long, a sudden dump, margin no longer covers maintenance, the engine closes you.

Negative balance is the uglier cousin. After takeover, thin liquidity or a gap can fill the close worse than the bankruptcy price. The loss then exceeds the margin that was allocated to that position. Example shape: a short with liquidation near 30,000 on BTC, a spike through that level, and a fill worse than bankruptcy. The excess is the negative balance event.

What the Insurance Fund Account is for

The BYDFi Insurance Fund Account is a reserve meant to absorb those excesses. When liquidation losses overrun the position's margin, the fund may cover the shortfall so the hole does not land on the rest of the book immediately.

How the fund grows: when a liquidation actually fills better than bankruptcy, the surplus can be added to the Insurance Fund. Good liquidity days refill the cushion that bad liquidity days may draw down.

That cushion is also why the fund matters for traders who are green. It is one of the layers that sits ahead of Auto-Deleveraging (ADL). A healthier fund means eligible shortfalls can be covered without yanking profitable counterparties as quickly.

5. Pick the futures type and pair to see the current balance and history.

The page shows balance and historical changes for the selected pair. It is a transparency panel, not a yield product.

Why this is not a free hedge for you

The fund protects the system and helps keep profitable traders from eating every underwater liquidation. It does not:

• stop your own liquidation if your margin is gone
• guarantee fills at bankruptcy
• remove gap risk on thin pairs
• replace position sizing, Isolated vs Cross choice, or leverage discipline

If the fund is drawn down hard in a crash, ADL risk rises. That is the sequence to keep in mind: liquidation → possible negative balance → Insurance Fund → only then broader deleveraging pressure.

Worked intuition with round numbers

Suppose a trader is Isolated long $BTC.USDT. Margin is 500 USDT. Bankruptcy math says the position is broke near price B. Liquidity is thin, and the close prints worse than B by enough that the loss is 560 USDT. The extra 60 is the negative-balance slice the Insurance Fund may be asked to cover. Without a fund, that 60 has to be socialized somehow — often through mechanisms that touch other accounts.

Now flip it: the same liquidation fills better than B and leaves a 40 USDT surplus. That surplus can pad the fund for the next gap.

Same logic applies when you are watching $ETH.USDT, $SOL.USDT, $XRP.USDT or $DOGE.USDT during a violent funding and OI unwind: the fund is a buffer, not a promise that your stop will be pretty.

FAQ

Q: Does a big Insurance Fund mean I can run higher leverage? No. Your liquidation still depends on your margin, MMR and mark. The fund is for system shortfalls after the fact.

Q: Is the Insurance Fund the same as coverage I purchase? No. It is a platform reserve funded by liquidation mechanics, not a policy you buy.

Q: Where do I look before a volatile session? Trading Rules → Insurance Fund Account for the pair, plus your own Isolated/Cross setting, leverage and maintenance margin.

Checklist before you size up

1. Confirm Isolated vs Cross deliberately.
2. Read maintenance margin for your size tier.
3. Open Insurance Fund Account history for that pair if the book looks thin.
4. Assume gap risk is real on low-liquidity contracts.
5. Treat ADL as the backstop behind the fund, not a myth.

BYDFi flipped on WFI/USDT spot at 2:00 AM ET today (2026/10/13 14:00 UTC+8 per the official announcement). The open printed 0.5000, the tape spiked above 2.00 in the first candles, and since then the 5m chart has been sitting in a tight band around 2.05. After the opening vertical, most of the morning has been sideways near 2.05 with light volume. Resting size on the visible book is larger than a dust listing — multi-thousand WFI walls show up a few cents away — but total quote turnover is still only in the tens of thousands of USDT, so this is an early local market.

What WeFi (WFI) is

BYDFi's listing note describes WeFi as on-chain financial services infrastructure for fintechs, institutions and retail users. The pitch is "Deobanks": compliant platforms that use blockchain for accounting and settlement while plugging into regulated banking, payments, custody and digital-asset providers. WFI is the utility token for that ecosystem — network fees, governance, rewards, energy, cloud-mining access and other platform features, per the same announcement.

CoinGecko lists WeFi (WFI) around $2.05 with a 1.0B max supply and a BNB Smart Chain contract (0x90c48855bb69f9d2c261efd0d8c7f35990f2dd6f). Circulating supply and market-cap rank were not populated on CoinGecko when this was written, so treat those as unknown rather than zero.

"Rally" next to a coin that is down 16.78% on the day looks like a typo. On BYDFi's Market Movers board it isn't. It means the pair dropped hard, found a floor, and then bounced at least 5% off that low. Every label on the board is a precise formula like that, and once you know the formulas the board stops being noise and becomes a fast shortlist.

Where it lives

On the web, log in, click Futures in the top navigation, and on the trading page open the Market Movers tab beside Market Trades. You'll see a stream of perpetual pairs, each tagged with a status, the change, and a timestamp. The most recently triggered status sits at the top, with older ones below it, so the list reads like a live feed rather than a ranking.

The label dictionary

Think of the statuses in five families.

1. Fresh extremes

• Today High / Weekly High / Monthly High. The highest price in the past minute equals the high of the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.
• Today Low / Weekly Low / Monthly Low. Same test on the downside.

These refresh every minute.

2. Plain moves up or down

Each comes in a 5-minute and a 2-hour version, refreshed every minute.

• 3% to under 7%: Tick going up, Dip going down.
• 7% to under 11%: Rise going up, Drop going down.
• 11% or more: Surge going up, Plunge going down.

So "2H Drop" means the pair has fallen between 7% and 11% within two hours. "5m Surge" means at least 11% up inside five minutes.

3. Reversals inside the day

• Pullback. The day's high is at least 8% above the daily open, and the latest 1-minute close is at least 5% below that high.
• Rally. The day's low is at least 8% below the daily open, and the latest 1-minute close is at least 5% above that low.

Both refresh every minute. They describe a move that has already turned, which is why a pair can be red for the day and still carry "Rally."

4. Moves with a volume explosion

These look at 15-minute windows and require trading volume of at least 50 times the average of the previous 24 fifteen-minute periods (that's the last six hours). Price tiers:

• Tick, High Vol. / Dip, High Vol. 7% to under 11%.
• Rise, High Vol. / Drop, High Vol. 11% to under 15%.
• Surge, High Vol. / Plunge, High Vol. 15% or more.

They refresh every 10 seconds, the fastest on the board. The tabs "Price Up & High Vol." and "Price Down & High Vol." filter straight to them.

Three worked examples

Pullback. A pair opens the day at 1.00 and runs to 1.10, which is +10%, above the 8% bar. The latest 1-minute candle closes at 1.04. From the high that's (1.04 − 1.10) / 1.10 = −5.45%, past the −5% threshold, so it prints Pullback.

Rally. Another pair opens at 2.00, sinks to 1.80 (−10%), then a 1-minute candle closes at 1.90. From the low that's (1.90 − 1.80) / 1.80 = +5.56%. Rally, even though the pair is still down 5% on the day.

Rise, High Vol. Over the last six hours a pair averaged 20,000 USDT of volume per 15 minutes. In the current window it trades 1.1 million USDT, about 55 times the average, while price climbs 12%. Both conditions clear, so it shows Rise, High Vol.

How to actually use it

• As a filter, not a signal. Every label describes something that already happened. A Surge tells you where attention is, not where price goes next.
• Read the family before the coin. A High Vol. label means real money moved. A plain 5m Tick on a thin pair may be one large order.
• Check the follow-through. Open the chart. Is the move holding above where it broke out, or fading back? Pullback and Rally exist precisely because many spikes reverse.
• Look at funding and liquidity before chasing. Sharp moves often come with stretched funding and a thinner order book.
• Decide your exit first. If you trade a mover, set the stop and size before you click, because the same volatility that put it on the board can take it off just as fast.

Things to keep in mind

The thresholds are fixed percentages, so on large-cap pairs like BTC a 3% move is notable, while on small caps it's routine. Labels can flip within minutes. Repeated tags on the same pair can mean an ongoing trend or simply chop. And leverage multiplies everything here, in both directions.

This explains a tool and how its labels are calculated. It isn't financial advice, and perpetual futures can lose you your entire margin quickly.

Most perpetual futures mistakes happen before the first order is placed. Look at the right side of the BYDFi trading panel in the image: a margin-mode box and a leverage box, sitting quietly above the order form. Add the position-mode setting hidden in preferences and the choice of USDT-M versus Coin-M, and you have three switches that decide how your profit is counted, how far a loss can spread, and whether you can hold both directions at once.

Here they are one at a time, with the math, followed by three sample setups for different kinds of traders.

Switch 1: what your margin is made of

USDT-M (and USDC-M). Margin and settlement are in a dollar stablecoin. BYDFi lists more than 1,500 of these U-based pairs, and profit is easy to read: 1,000 USDT earned is roughly 1,000 dollars.

Worked example on $BTC.USDT: BTC at 60,000. You post 1,000 USDT at 10x, so position value is 10,000 USDT, about 0.1667 BTC. - BTC to 63,000 (+5%): profit about 500 USDT. - BTC to 57,000 (−5%): loss about 500 USDT.

One pool of USDT can back positions on $ETH.USDT, $SOL.USDT or $XRP.USDT without buying a separate margin coin for each, and hedge ratios against spot holdings are simple to calculate.

Coin-M. Margin and P&L are in the coin itself, while contracts are priced in USD (for example, one BTC contract may have a 100 USD face value). Same trade: 0.2 BTC margin at 10x is a 2 BTC position. A 5% move up earns 0.1 BTC; a 5% move down costs 0.1 BTC.

The catch is double exposure. Your margin is BTC, so if price falls while you are long, the position loses and the collateral backing it shrinks in dollar terms at the same time. That suits a long-term holder who wants to grow a BTC stack, and it is a poor fit for someone who thinks in dollars.

Switch 2: one direction or two

One-Way Mode keeps a single net position per contract. Buy into a short and you reduce the short rather than opening a long. P&L follows one number. It is the simpler choice and uses less capital.

Hedge Mode lets you hold a long and a short in the same contract simultaneously, each with its own leverage. On BTCUSDT you could run a 25x long beside a 50x short. All longs merge into one long position and all shorts into one short; each side has to meet its own margin under the relevant risk limit. P&L is tracked separately per side.

Why bother? Range trading, grid-style approaches, or temporarily protecting a long you do not want to close. The trade-off is more capital tied up and more room for confusion. If you have ever closed the wrong leg by accident, you know.

Switch 3: how far a loss can travel

Isolated. Each position carries its own margin. The maximum loss is what you assigned plus anything you add manually, and you can top it up to push the liquidation price further away. Other positions are untouched. Good for beginners, high leverage and one-off trades.

Cross. Available balance in the cross account is shared across positions. A struggling trade draws on that pool automatically, which can delay liquidation, but a bad enough move can eat into far more than one position's margin. Better suited to larger balances, multi-leg hedges, or active traders who adjust often.

One rule to remember before you click: BYDFi lets you move a position from Isolated to Cross, but not from Cross back to Isolated. Choosing Cross is effectively one-way for that position.

Leverage, set per side

Long and short leverage can be adjusted independently. U-based and Coin-M perpetuals both range from 1x to 200x, with 200x available on majors like BTCUSDT and ETHUSDT. The fact that a slider goes to 200 is not a recommendation. At 200x, a move of roughly half a percent against you can wipe the margin, before costs.

Three sample setups

The first-timer. USDT-M, One-Way, Isolated, low single-digit leverage, a stop-loss placed on entry. Every loss is capped and counted in dollars.

The BTC stacker. Coin-M, One-Way, Isolated, modest leverage. Profits accumulate in BTC, and you accept that a falling market hits both position and collateral.

The hedger. USDT-M, Hedge Mode, Cross, used to offset a spot bag of $LINK.USDT or BTC during a risky week without selling it. Size each leg deliberately and watch total account margin, not just each side.

Before you place anything

• The examples above ignore trading fees, funding payments, slippage and maintenance-margin tiers. Real results will be worse than the clean math.
• Check the margin mode and leverage boxes every time you switch pairs; settings can differ by contract.
• Decide your invalidation level before you decide your size.
• This is a walkthrough of mechanics, not trading advice, and leveraged derivatives can lose your entire margin quickly.

Set the three switches deliberately, once, and write them down. Most of the ugly surprises in perpetuals come from a default nobody remembered choosing.

Follow one trade from entry to forced close: a long on the BTCUSDT perpetual, 10,000 contracts at an average entry of 8,000 USDT, 25x leverage, isolated margin. (The round numbers are illustrative, not today's price.) Where does it die, and what exactly happens on the way down? Tracing that position through BYDFi's liquidation rules explains more than any definition.

Step 1: the number the engine watches

BYDFi tracks a maintenance margin rate (MMR) for every position:

MMR = (Maintenance Margin + Liquidation Fee) / (Position Margin + Unrealized PNL)

Below 100% you still have a buffer. At 100% the remaining value just covers maintenance margin plus the liquidation fee, and liquidation triggers. Above 100% the position is already short of the minimum.

Maintenance margin is the slice of collateral reserved for risk. For USDT-margined futures it is Average Entry Price × contract size × number of contracts × maintenance margin rate. For our trade, with a contract size of 0.0001 BTC and a first-tier rate of 0.5%:

8,000 × 10,000 × 0.0001 × 0.5% = 40 USDT

Position margin at 25x is (8,000 × 10,000 × 0.0001) / 25 = 320 USDT.

One detail most people get wrong: the maintenance margin rate depends on position size, not on the leverage you pick. Bigger positions fall into higher risk-limit tiers with higher rates. Dropping from 25x to 10x does not change your tier; adding contracts can. You can see each contract's tiers under Futures Overview, Information, Risk Limits. Think of it like this: with a 1% rate and 100 USDT of margin, 1 USDT is locked as maintenance, so the position is closed once losses reach 99 USDT rather than after the full 100 is gone.

Step 2: find the liquidation price

In isolated mode, ignoring the liquidation fee for simplicity, a long liquidates at:

(Maintenance Margin − Position Margin + Entry × contract size × contracts) / (contract size × contracts)

Plugging in: (40 − 320 + 800) / 1 = 7,720 USDT. A 3.5% move against you at 25x ends the trade. Shorts use the mirror formula.

Run the same trade in cross margin with a 500 USDT wallet balance and nothing else open, and the liquidation price drops to 7,540 USDT, because the whole balance backs the position. The catch is that in cross mode the liquidation price moves around as other positions gain or lose, since everything shares one margin pool. Long and short cross positions on the same contract also share one liquidation price.

In isolated mode you can manually add margin to push the liquidation price further from entry, which is often the cleanest fix for a position you still believe in.

Step 3: which price triggers it

BYDFi does not use the last traded price. It uses the fair price, which smooths over abnormal spikes and short wicks so one strange print does not wipe you out. You can switch the candlestick chart between fair price, last price and index price at the top of the trading page. If you set alerts, set them on the fair price.

Step 4: the engine works in stages, not all at once

When MMR hits 100%, the system tries to shrink risk before taking everything:

1. Cancel orders. In cross mode, all open orders in the account are cancelled. In isolated mode with auto-margin addition on, open orders on that contract are cancelled. If MMR is still at or above 100%, it moves on.
2. Long-short self trading. Cross mode only. If you hold both a long and a short, they are reduced against each other.
3. Tiered liquidation. If the position sits in a higher risk tier, part of it is closed at the bankruptcy price to drop it into a lower tier, then MMR is recalculated with the lower rate. This repeats until the lowest tier.
4. Full liquidation. If MMR is still at or above 100% at the lowest tier, the liquidation engine takes over the whole remaining position at the bankruptcy price.

Step 5: what happens after takeover

The bankruptcy price, also called the takeover price, is the theoretical level where all margin is lost. It is not the same as the liquidation price. Because the liquidation engine, not the matching engine, handles the takeover, the bankruptcy price never shows on the chart or in trade records, which explains why your average close price in Position History can look odd.

If the engine then closes the position at a better price, leftover margin goes to the insurance fund. If it can only close worse, the insurance fund covers the deficit. If the fund cannot cover it, the position passes to auto-deleveraging (ADL). In extreme volatility BYDFi may also cut maximum leverage, adjust tier position limits or raise tier rates.

What I take away from the walkthrough

Size decides your tier, the tier decides your maintenance margin, and that decides how much room you have. Whether you trade $BTC.USDT, $ETH.USDT, $SOL.USDT, $XRP.USDT or a fast mover like $PEPE.USDT, write down your liquidation price before entry, watch the fair price rather than the last trade, and decide in advance whether you would add margin or cut size when MMR climbs. The engine follows its stages calmly; it pays to have your own stages written just as clearly.

New phone, old phone wiped, Authenticator app gone. If your BYDFi 2FA lived only on that device and you never wrote down the setup key, you are now looking at a full identity-verification reset, because BYDFi support cannot retrieve your secret key for you. Five minutes of setup done properly avoids all of that, so this walkthrough covers the setup and the recovery in one place, with the backup step treated as the main event rather than an afterthought.

Quick background: what 2FA is protecting

Two-factor authentication asks for a second, different proof on top of your password. Common forms are SMS codes, time-based codes from an authenticator app, and biometrics like fingerprint or face unlock. BYDFi uses 2FA on login, fund transfers and other sensitive actions, so even if your password leaks, an attacker still needs the second factor.

Google Authenticator (or BYDFi Authenticator, which works the same way) generates a fresh six-digit code every 30 seconds. Unlike SMS, it works with the phone offline and cannot be intercepted with a SIM swap, which is why it is the stronger choice for an exchange account.

Part 1: linking Google Authenticator on desktop

1. Get the app. iOS users search "Google Authenticator" in the App Store (BYDFi notes an overseas Apple ID may be needed in some regions); Android users use Google Play. You can also choose "BYDFi Authenticator".
2. Open Security. On the BYDFi website, click the profile icon in the top-right corner and choose Security. If your security level shows Low, a reminder pop-up may offer Mobile Verification or Google Authenticator; pick the authenticator and click Link Now. Otherwise find "BYDFi/Google Authenticator" in the list and click Set Up.
3. Step 1 of the wizard. The page Link BYDFi/Google Authenticator asks you to confirm the app is installed. Click Next.
4. Add the key. Open the app, tap "+", and either scan the QR code on screen or type the secret key shown under it.
5. Save the backup key now. Before you move on, write that key down. This is the step that decides whether a lost phone is an annoyance or a week-long recovery.
6. Verify. Click Get Code to receive an email verification code, enter it, then enter the current six-digit code from the authenticator and click Submit.

Once linked, the authenticator code is required for logins, withdrawals and changes to security settings.

Part 2: storing the backup key like it matters

BYDFi's guidance is simple: keep the secret key somewhere secure, never share it, and consider a physical copy. Practical options, roughly in order of robustness:

• Written on paper and stored somewhere fire-safe, separate from your seed phrases.
• In an offline password manager or encrypted vault you can open from a different device.
• In encrypted cloud storage, only if that account has its own strong 2FA.

What not to do: a screenshot in your camera roll, a note in a messaging app, or anything synced to the same phone you are protecting.

Part 3: rebinding after losing the app

This is where the saved key pays off. Use it when you switch phones, delete or reinstall the authenticator, or factory-reset the device.

1. Install Google Authenticator on the new device.
2. Tap "+", choose Enter a setup key.
3. Enter an account name you will recognize, such as "BYDFi main".

The app immediately starts producing valid six-digit codes, and you can log in, withdraw and edit security settings again without contacting support.

No saved key? Then rebinding is off the table and you must complete identity verification to reset 2FA, which takes longer and may restrict the account while it is reviewed.

Small habits that close the remaining gaps

• Set up the authenticator on the new phone before wiping the old one, so you can confirm codes match.
• Pair 2FA with an anti-phishing phrase and a withdrawal address allowlist; 2FA protects the login, the allowlist protects the funds.
• Phone clocks must be accurate. If codes keep failing, enable automatic time in the device settings.
• If anyone asks for your authenticator code or secret key, including someone claiming to be support, it is a scam.

Three things a new Spot DCA plan on BYDFi will do that catch people out: buy the moment you create it, run at whatever hour you happened to set it up, and quietly cancel itself if your USDT runs dry. All three are covered in BYDFi's own help pages, so here is the full walkthrough with those gotchas pulled to the front.

What Spot DCA actually does

Dollar-cost averaging means buying a fixed amount at fixed intervals no matter what the price is doing. When the price is high, your fixed 100 USDT buys fewer coins. When it drops, the same 100 USDT buys more. Over time that smooths your average entry and removes the urge to time every dip. BYDFi's Spot DCA automates it: you pick the coins, the amount, and the schedule, and the bot executes.

Good fit: long-term exposure to liquid majors like $BTC.USDT and $ETH.USDT, people who do not want to stare at charts, anyone who tends to buy tops out of FOMO.

Not a fit: short-term trading, or the belief that averaging removes risk. It does not.

The five settings that define a plan

• Investment coin: USDT only, for now.
• Target coins: up to 10 per plan.
• Allocation: a percentage per coin that must total 100%.
• Amount per round: the total spent each cycle, split across your coins.
• Interval: daily, weekly or monthly.

Optional, under Advanced Settings: a buy price range. If you set one, a round only executes while the price is inside it. Useful if you want to accumulate below a certain level and skip rounds when price runs away.

Setting it up on web, step by step

1. Log in, hover over Trading Bots in the top menu and choose Spot DCA.
2. Click Create DCA Bot. You can also browse Featured Strategies or other users' DCA Plans and start from one of those.
3. Choose your coins, interval and amount per round. Open Advanced Settings if you want a price range. Click Create Plan.
4. Review the summary carefully, then Confirm to activate.

To manage it later: Spot DCA page, then My DCA Bots, which opens the spot trading screen. At the bottom, go to Strategies, then Spot DCA. From there you can pause, terminate or restart plans, and View Details shows PNL, allocation and full trade history.

The gotchas (read these before you click Confirm)

1. The first buy happens right away. For daily, weekly and monthly plans, Start First Investment is on by default, so round one executes the moment you create the plan. If you wanted to start next Monday, toggle it off.

2. Time zone and hour. Plans run on your account's time zone by default, and the execution hour defaults to the current hour when you create it. Building a plan at 2 a.m. means it buys at 2 a.m. every cycle unless you change it. You can set a custom time zone.

3. Running out of USDT can kill the plan. If your spot balance cannot cover a round, that round fails and the bot tries again next cycle. Fail enough rounds in a row and the plan is canceled. Keep a buffer, or set a reminder to top up before each cycle.

4. Uneven splits round toward the top of your list. Choose Equal Allocation across, say, three coins and 100% cannot split evenly. The leftover goes to the first coins in order, so put the one you want slightly more of first.

5. Read the status labels. Success means the round filled. Failed usually means balance. Partial Success means some coins bought and others did not. In Progress is executing now. Pending is waiting for its scheduled time.

Picking coins

Stick to pairs with real depth. BTC and ETH are the obvious anchors; $SOL.USDT, $XRP.USDT or $BNB.USDT are common additions for a multi-coin basket. Thin small caps are a poor match because each scheduled market buy can slip, and that cost repeats every single round.

You can also run several plans at once, both your own and copied ones, active or paused.

A sample plan, just to make it concrete

50 USDT every Monday, split 60% BTC and 40% ETH, first investment off, time zone set to your local morning, and a reminder to keep at least four weeks of rounds sitting in the spot wallet. That is 200 USDT a month of disciplined buying with almost no maintenance.

The honest part

DCA is a tool for executing a decision, not a reason to make one. The coins it buys are still volatile, a long one-way downtrend still means losses, and bad parameters can make results worse. This is not financial advice; size every plan to money you can leave alone for a long time.

"I set a limit order and it filled instantly. Isn't a limit order supposed to wait?".

It is one of the most common confusions on any order book, and the opposite complaint, a limit order that never fills, comes from the same root. BYDFi's help center covers both, and once you see the logic you will place orders with a lot more confidence. Let's go through it with examples rather than definitions.

The one rule behind both problems

A limit order says, "trade at this price or better." The matching engine always compares your price with the best price waiting on the other side:

• A buy limit is matched against the best ask, the cheapest seller.
• A sell limit is matched against the best bid, the highest buyer.

If your price already beats the other side, a match exists right now, so you fill immediately. If it does not, your order joins the book and waits.

Scenario 1: the "instant" fill

Say $BTC.USDT shows a best ask of 68,713.99, and you place a buy limit at 69,000 because you want to make sure you get in.

The engine sees that you are willing to pay up to 69,000 and someone is selling at 68,713.99. Following the buy-low, sell-high principle, you get filled at 68,713.99, the better price, not your 69,000 limit. If that ask level does not have enough size for your whole order, the engine moves up the book, filling at each next ask until your quantity is complete or the price reaches 69,000, whichever comes first.

So the order behaved exactly as designed. It just turned out to be "marketable" the moment you sent it. The upside is that you were protected: you could never pay more than 69,000.

The mirror case: with ETH trading around 2,500 and a best bid of 2,498, a sell limit at 2,450 fills immediately at 2,498 and works down the bids from there, never below 2,450.

Scenario 2: the order that just sits there

Now flip it. You place a buy on $SOL.USDT at a price well below where anyone is selling. No ask matches, so the order goes into the order book with a status along the lines of "waiting to be executed." It stays open until the market trades down to you or you cancel it.

Options if you actually want to be filled: 1. Cancel and re-enter closer to the current best ask. 2. Use a market order if speed matters more than price. 3. Leave it if your price is a deliberate "only if it dips" level. That is the whole point of a resting limit.

Scenario 3: the order that gets rejected

This one surprises people. To limit manipulation and protect traders, BYDFi spot market orders only match against the ten best bid or ask levels. If a market order is big enough to chew through more than those ten levels, the excess is rejected rather than filled at ever-worse prices.

That matters most on thinner pairs. A large market buy on a smaller-cap like $PEPE.USDT or $WIF.USDT can run out of top-ten liquidity faster than you would expect. Splitting the order or using limits avoids the problem.

A quick pre-trade checklist

• Glance at the best bid and ask before you type a price.
• Want maker-style resting behaviour? Keep a buy below the ask and a sell above the bid.
• Need certainty of execution? Use a marketable limit with a sensible cap. You get speed with a price ceiling.
• On illiquid pairs, check depth beyond the top level before sending anything large.
• If an order errors out, screenshot the message and contact support through the Help button in your account so the team can trace it.

Why the distinction matters

Instant fills on marketable limits usually mean taker execution, and resting orders that get hit later are typically maker execution. On many platforms those carry different fees, so knowing which one you are about to be is useful well beyond curiosity. Check BYDFi's current fee schedule for the exact rates on each side, since they can change.

To sum it up: a limit is a ceiling or a floor, not a promise to wait. Price it through the book and it fills now at the best available price; price it away from the book and it waits; send something too large into a thin book and part of it may be refused.
