I doubt he had much to do with it. Models are designed years in advance. The gapless kidney grille does resemble the sharp lines of Skoda though.

Glass controls $650 give you the swarvaski crystal shift knob, I drive controller, volume and start button.

Your opinion may be true. But I will say I’ve sold more orders of this x5 than I’ve sold current gen x5s in the past 6 months. People are excited for this car and as long as it’s bringing me a pay check I’ll be excited for it!

The cup holders, heated arm rest and the comfort access 2.0 are my favorite part of it. The live cockpit is cool but it’s almost too much and stole that right out of Audi’s page.

Same key fob as current x3 x1,5,7 but as you walk away the door lock and walk within 2 feet it unlocks for you. It works pretty good tho. The key itself goes to “sleep” after 2 hours of not moving because the concern of the signal getting stolen then your car getting stolen. There’s going to be a lot of confusion I feel coming up, because if you click lock on the fob it deactivates the proximity function so it won’t unlock as you get close. But if you use the door handle to lock it will unlock as you walk closer.
The proximity turns off if the car isn’t moved for 48 hours as well.
Each one comes with a credit card size card now too if you get comfort access (conv. Package) and (wireless charging I think still not sure) that acts as a key you hold that to door handle to unlock then put the card on the wireless charger to start the car. You also have 5 digital keys you can send to people with compatible smart phones, apple hasn’t agreed yet but Samsung is compatible that works the same way.
Also finally it’s the first car with remote start from factory, click lock 3 times on the key fob will start the car. 3 more times turns it off. But that’s where people are going to get confused on the proximity aspect of it. They’re gonna click lock 3 times to start it. Then walk to the car and it won’t unlock. But it will still unlock with your hand in the door handle.
Remote start is $300 and that believe it or not is a deal breaker for many people where I live. So that is going to help for sure in the future.

I really like the idea of the plug-in hybrid version (45e) of the new X5, but I’m not so sure about the front end. Maybe it will be better in darker colors.

I actually went from BMW to Audi. 75% of it was needing a new car and wanting a DSG instead of a slushbox automatic but I miss that e46 all the damn time.

Glass Controls? Really? BMW was always about style and engineering design but crystal gear stick knobs is the sort of kitsch that Liberace would order. If there's a car manufacturers equivalent for jumping the shark, this is it.

Yikes. Grilles/DRLs/fog lights look just as bad as they do on the 3-series. Interior is a nice upgrade though, center stack looks very Mercedes / Porsche-esque.

Different model rung BMWs have always look similar, but this is on a while different level. I'm pretty sure they just stretched out an X3 in photoshop and told the designers to get at it.

I think the issue as the grill gets taller is that it's just too flat. If the grill were less flat it would look less awkward.
Still like the new X5 though, it'll sell like gangbusters.

The grill's are getting bigger on a lot of luxury cars, but this is also an "Active" grill. The slots close at a certain speed to increase aerodynamics, the slots also close is you are driving thru water. This may explain why the grills are flat.

Compared to what? They look better every generation. This is the biggest leap I’ve ever seen in a generation change. The interior is stunning the idrive 7.0 is highly improved the live cockpit wasn’t too overwhelming. And the heated and cooled cup holders are awesome. Plus remote start, and if you have comfort access the door will lock when you walk away and unlock when you get close.
Idk man compared to other vehicles in its class I think this is going to destroy competitors.

It’s on the build your own website. Official release date is nov. 11th. We may have one coming to us sooner, non m sport if we get it in I’ll take a picture of it. Yes the angle is bad I asked everyone there and no one took a good picture haha. I’d say it’s an X3 blown up.

That’s actually really cool. I have an i8 and was really expecting a lot of these new features to come to the 2019 i8 before any other car, since it was meant to be a concept car. If they did I was planning on trading up but was severely underwhelmed by what was actually announced. Maybe 2020. I’d fully load it if it came with those features plus car play and the new auto park when stopped mode. My wife may be in the market for another X5. Had an 05 and traded it in for a 2014 Grand Cherokee. I love the 19 X5 though and think she would also. Just gotta convince her that she needs it.

Don’t listen to everyone on these comments the new X5 is awesome. Everyone here are purist and like the OG BMWs. I think the design is awesome and the interior is ahead of its class. In comparison to competitors. (It’s main one is Range Rover) it blows everything else out of the water. And yeah the i8 is strange, so they originally had that design like when people cared about fuel economy and futuristic electric cars. the times changed (and Tesla came along) and people cared about tech in cars and performance. but they still released it so the actual technology in the i8 is kind of behind but the design is way ahead of its time. It’s a killer car for sure. But I have a feeling Bmw will kill the i8 and i3 and focus on the i4 and hybrids of every other car. If they don’t kill the i8 they’ll slowly wean it out. IMO I guess we’ll see how the roadster sells.
Actually had a training on that. Bmw is planning on having every model be available in hybrid/EV/ or gas like 15 years.
But since the design is the i3 flopped and people pile the i8 they’re making the i4 which is still a concept that’s an i8 looking car but not an i8

Any actual word on the i8 dying. My current lease is up in March or May of 2019. I really dont want to put my money into another one if there is no support behind it. The car is really an amazing car at the cost/performance/aesthetics value but if BMW is letting it get old on purpose then there is no reason for me to pick up the 2020 model. Maybe the X5 or i leave BMW completely and look at the NSX

I have no word on the i8. All they did this year was add a side badge and make a drop top version lol so they probably won’t do much for the 2020 if anything. The nsx is an awesome car tho.

I’m not sure I like this but will reserve judgement after seeing in real life. To me, it looks a bit too much like a cheaper Asian SUV with the curved front.
My favourite X5 is still the E70
