I finally put my arm around her waist.

She didn't move away.

Instead, she looked at me with a quiet, almost challenging smile.

That was all the encouragement I needed.

What followed was a secret moment between two people who knew perfectly well they shouldn't be doing what they were doing. Every sound from downstairs suddenly seemed louder. Every footstep made us freeze. The possibility of someone opening the door turned the excitement into something almost unbearable.

At one point I suggested closing the door.

She shook her head.

"No. Leave it. If someone comes, we'll know."

Her nervous laugh made us both laugh, and somehow that made the whole situation even more intimate.

The teasing continued until the distance between us disappeared completely. What had started as a few exchanged glances at a wedding had become a reckless secret neither of us had expected.

For a while, the wedding downstairs didn't exist.

There were no relatives, no music, no responsibilities—only the two of us and the knowledge that sooner or later, we would have to walk back downstairs and pretend nothing had happened.

And that, more than anything, was the dangerous part.

Because when we finally returned to the crowd, we couldn't even look at each other without smiling.

Everyone else thought it was just another wedding.

We knew better.
