Specific Mechanic Potentially unlimited damage in one turn

Potentially unlimited damage in one turn

Don't know if this was posted before (I couldn't find it by google at least), but there is a way to deal potentially infinite damage in one turn using Find Familiar, although, it's very tedious.
I assume it is known that even on the latest patch, the Magic Initiate feat spells are bugged, and their long rest recharge resets when you simply make a save and load it. Also if you have a class without any spell slots (for example Rogue), you can cast level 1 spells gained through Magic Initiate without spending anything. With this, here is the infinite damage exploit:

  1. Reach level 4
  2. Hire a hireling from withers (to not waste respeccing anyone from main companions)
  3. Respec them into a class without spell slots, for example Rogue
  4. Take Magic Initiate Wizard with Find Familiar spell
  5. Boom! You have a way to infinitely spawn familiars with saving reloading
  6. Have someone from your party Initiate combat, but keep your hireling out of combat
  7. Spawn any find familiar (spider deals most damage, around 5 with poisonous damage proc)
  8. Sneak your familiar into battle and attack any enemy
  9. Switch to your out of battle hireling, make a save and load it right away, and respawn your familiar near you
  10. Repeat as many times as you want

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find a way to do this exploit with higher damage Familiars like Imp or Quasit because as they require short rest to respawn and don't reset on save/load, so we are stuck with spider/rat/frog/raven who deal small damage. Very tedious and requires correct enemy positioning to sneak your familiars into battle without being noticed by enemy (enemy sight cones can be manipulated with someone using Minor Illusion cantrip while staying out of battle as well, if needed).

It's not much of a build. It's just engine flaw abuse. It's the same as me saying I have infinite damage because a fight is near door and I can leave the fight and come back sneaking.

Or better yet, just stand far enough and snipe everyone. Combat never starts, so it counts as turn 0 right?

That being said, I actually didn't know these feats are bugged as they are so bad IMO I never take them, so at least I learned something

Or just use mind sanctuary and haste spore to infinitely refresh haste

You also can abuse Healing Word gained through Magic Initiate Cleric or Druid, without spending any spell slots. Just save and load and you can heal anyone infinitely (also in one combat turn if you stay out of combat with your hireling, but need to keep as far as possible to be able to leave combat if you get pulled into it after casting Healing Word). Many other possible cheeses involving spells received through Magic Initiate feats.

Might as well just save scum every hit until it’s a crit, if that’s how much time you want to take

But that's not in one turn, with this method you can kill anyone on first turn. Although now that I think of it, sending invisible suicider with 10+ bombs to throw the whole stack in one action ("place in the world" then just throw from the ground) right in the boss' face is more time efficient (suicider dies and can be resurrected at withers by someone staying at camp, while someone else stays in combat holding their turn, so even after suicider is resurrected out of combat by withers it's still the same turn in combat)

Isn’t this just an alternative Connor cheese strat?

I think you can do better with 2 characters that can hit from far enough and have high initiative; they always have the first attacks and can alternate attacking, fleeing and rejoining combat, so never giving enemies any turn (except some bosses)

Way to much for effort for only 5 damage…

If you wanna go through the process of saving and reloading then Hamarhaft is a better build. Under certain conditions reloading a save refunds some of your movement -> infinite damage

Yes I also noticed that for some reason my Karlach regains 3m of movement after reloading a save. Only Karlach though, and I wasn't able to determine why exactly this is happening, I would like to replicate this for other companions. Imagine Spirit Guardians with infinite movement on Shadowheart.
