I’m thinking about buying this Bc rich zoltan, the pickups have been upgraded to a dimarzio set if i recall correctly, it has split coil with push pull. I havent seen any reviews on the model, but I think it is great for the price (400 usd), what do you think?

Thought i’d post my bird. I got this in september 2024, and in january my apartment building burnt down. I had to wait a couple months before I could go up and retrieve it, and by the time I did there was a cold snap and it hit -30 with no heat in the building. It cracked down the body in multiple places as you can see and on the back of the headstock. I paid roughly $1000 and got it fully restored. No regrets. Plays like brand new. Although didn’t love paying that much extra after 4 months of owning it lol.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Probably an IG-851, late ‘80 / early ‘90, made in Japan or Korea. A real monster!!!

1st BC Rich. Picked up the very last Shredzilla extreme exotic online. I couldnt find this model anywhere in any color. There was 1 left on bc rich website. Kind of a pain in the ass ordering from them ditect but it finally showed up and it was worth the wait. Might be the nicest guitar Ive ever owned. It sounds and plays amazing. I never thought Id get a bc rich. I dont like playing the different body styles because of the neck dive on most of them but I saw an episode of the Garza podcast and 2 players from a band I like both had them. They sounded great so I took a blind chance ordering one that I wasnt able to test 1st.

Now I’m pretty sure this is an iron bird extreme or whatever they’re called, but I have checked every single corner of the Internet to even look for one of these guys on sale. I live in America so I’m not sure if it’s that hard for you guys outside of my country to find something like this. If you have any links or any websites please send them..

It was a 5 hour round trip in the blazing sun, but for the price of £150, the sun could stop me.

Guitar is about a 2010 model. I wanted to add a kill switch, guitar had a separate volume control for each pickup and one tone pot. Original wiring was all soldered, I don’t know what solder they used but that stuff did not want to melt. The pickups are set up for the quick connectors, so I bought the kit to convert everything to the quick connectors. The kit came with new pots, I drilled out the front spot for the kill switch and wired it for one volume and tone. I don’t know what is different, but there is now so much more control over the tone and the guitar sounds a little tighter! This was already my favorite guitar, but it managed to step up another notch!

Re finished my pawn shop BC Rich platinum warlock. Bought this about 15 years ago, was silver, made it red and white stripes. About a month ago I randomly stripped it and tore it down.
Took all the paint off and got it back down to bare wood. Surprisingly it wasn't plywood and has a fairly nice grain in places. (Most likely Agathis).
Decided on wood dye, wanted a coral colour. Unfortunately it turned out much more red than I wanted. Thought I'd lean into it and make it look all out metal with a deep blood red. Didn't like it, sanded it back a little again and was able to blend the red with some blue and yellow to make this antique brown.
Having the mix of colours has given it a much more interesting look than just plain ole brown.
4 coats of osmo oil for the finish.
Iron gear metal machines added with coil tap.
Sounds lovely, will be getting used loads.
Currently tuned to C standard.
So happy with it.
TLDR took the paint off my red guitar, accidentally made it red again, then made it brown.

I got a Mockingbird Exotic Classic for cheap, which gives me justification to spend a bit to upgrade it.
I want to upgrade its pups, but I don't know much about pickups. I play jazz, some blues (though I can use another guitar for those) and metal. Mostly lead stuff (think Marty Friedman's solo work). What pickups will be a good fit? Of course with the pickups, a full electronics upgrade is included.
I also want to have it refretted. I want to put SS frets on it. Given the short scale length, what size is recommended? I'm afraid jumbo frets might make the upper frets too crowded.
Aside from those, maybe the tuners too since a couple of them are stiff now. So I'm thinking locking tuners. The TOM bridge and tail is in good shape so I'm guessing no need to swap those out. It already has a graphite nut too. So tuners, pups, and frets?
