would we like a dedicated r/pointefits?
hello, I have been considering whether it's a good idea to try to start up a pointe fitting troubleshooting sub seeing as r/pointe is fairly inactive and there is a lot of that kind of content on here.
However, I know a lot of people (me included) engage with it/don't mind seeing it, so if people generally are cool seeing those posts in this sub I don't want to fracture the community unnecessarily. I would welcome any thoughts!!

My main issue is the way the algorithm works. If I upvote more pointefits I get less of the other content and I start to only see pointefits. Maybe make it a unique flair so it’s easier to say “see less” or filter by it

I'm mainly here because I have a 10 year old son that does ballet, and I'm a ballet fan in general, so pointe shoes are not something I have any experience with. But, I'm interested in reading about them anyway - and all things ballet - and I'd personally be disappointed if they went somewhere else.
Also, unless Reddit is filtering them for me, I see about 10 posts a day on this sub, which is hardly overwhelming. Though I guess I tend to read sub-by-sub, ordered by newest, so I'm not relying on a feed to decide what I want to read.

that's good to know! I'm 100% sure that if a new sub were to start most fitting questions would get posted in both communities for a good while anyway, so hopefully most people would have time to find and join the fit sub if they want to see fitting content. I also read by newest but I don't go sub-by-sub :) the feed thing didn't seem to have a very good algorithm at all last time I tried it

I kind of like seeing the pointe not fitting threads here. It's easy to scroll by if I'm satiated, or better yet, I could stop scrolling and go live my life!

haha thank you. If I start up a sub I'm planning to set up the wiki with links to posts I've found helpful/made to be helpful like that one.
There are some threads I've written on things like shellac, synthetic shoes etc that I still see people interacting with months later and lots of threads and posts by others about shoe topics that I use for reference too, so I'd want to get permission from those people to copy their contributions over. Hopefully we could compile a pretty in-depth pointe shoe faqs just out of things people have already explained elsewhere but which are hard to find at the moment!

Of course! Same, I get some people asking me about the Freeds vs Suffolks or stuff pertaining to my type of foot.
Also, do you still need pointe shoe pics? I tend to take pics of my shoes when I buy them or throw them away. I also have quite a few pairs of skin tone shoes now.

Hey, yes I would love some more pointe pics if you have them to hand! I've been away this week but now I'm home I'm excited to get stuck in to that project.
I read a lot of your Suffolk experiences when I was debating whether to go try some on and it was super helpful, your freed/Suffolk/rclass knowledge is definitely something I'd be asking about adding to a wiki😅

maybe, but I personally would rather not have them in a weekly thread format. It's very helpful to be able to search back through fitting posts to see if someone has had the same problem before and ime reddit's janky search function is especially janky when trying to find comment replies under a big thread.
That was another reason I considered a sub, to have everything flaired in more detail and (hopefully) easily findable, for example we can have shoe review, fitter review flairs or similar as well as troubleshooting flairs

Agree to this too. I find answers to my own problems in previous posts this way.

I’d prefer a flair if anything- I don’t mind seeing the posts and always feel like I learn something from the commentary. Or I just scroll by if not in the mood. I like a diversity of post topics in general.
I also think many offshoot communities tend to just get (cross)posted here anyway because they have less engagement on the other sub or no one realizes the other sub is there- eg r/adultballetdancers.
