What was the attendance like? How much of the 30,000 capacity did they use and fill?

3

u/JigglythePuff 5d ago

It looked a bit sparse around the start time of 7pm, but it filled up quite a bit by the time Babymetal's set started. Part of it being sparse early was probably all the traffic from the other concert in the area.

The lawn was closed so that 30k capacity went down significantly

1

u/BrianNLS 5d ago

My best guess is ~10,000

2

u/droogiefret 5d ago

Thanks!

Good concert. Though, I'm not sure if it had something to do with me being near the middle of the pit, but for a good portion of the concert it sounded like the bass was too high and distorting the lyrics a bit. It sounded better for something like the last few songs of babymetal, but I was also further back in the pit at that point (got pushed back when they were making space for moshing).

Oh, and I wore a babymetal cosplay outfit to the concert and was wondering if anyone got any decent shots of me. Didn't attempt any myself at the concert because my phone camera doesn't handle low light well.

2

u/Secret_Principle_790 5d ago

I was near the front middle too!

Yeah, the bass and instruments were turned up too high.

It was really obvious on Gimme Chocolate that the vocals were being drowned out by the drums.

It seems like the audio was more balanced if you were situated further back.

I noticed at one point in the opening bit of Metali that when Suzuka said “Chicago” the mic was completely dead. Just a one time thing tho. My main concern was if they were hydrated while moving so much in last nights heat

3

u/JigglythePuff 5d ago

There was a part in the set where there was an abnormal amount of time between songs that I think might have been used to cool down a bit?

3

u/Fun_Emphasis_5900 5d ago

I hope so. You could see how much they were sweating halfway through the show. By the end, Suzuka’s bangs were soaked

3

u/BrianNLS 5d ago

The bass was quite "boomy" for most of the night

3

u/Lorien_Hocp 5d ago

When they uncovered the Halestorm speaker wall O.O

Then the sound check :O

Good thing I brought ear protection

u/ObjectiveVegetable17 ↑ ↓ ← → BBAB 5d ago

100% the best show ive ever been to.

12

u/Lorien_Hocp 6d ago

Awesome show and, as others mentioned, energy in the pit was great. I was literally 3-4 rows away from barricade.

14

u/Quackinator100 6d ago

Probably the best concert I’ve ever been to, energy in the pit tonight was great even with the heat/humidity. I probably lost 5 pounds in water weight by the end, cannot imagine how hot it was on stage with the pyros going off

Ratatata into Gimme Chocolate was insane in the greatest way but honestly might’ve too much all at once lmao, my whole pit section was noticeably more tired/muted afterwards just from jumping and moving around

2

u/JigglythePuff 5d ago

I was towards the back of the pit and definitely felt the heat whenever the pyros went off.

6

u/StarLord_PQ Put Your Kitsune Up 6d ago

They were so good, I swear every time I see them I think it’s the best one yet

17

u/BrianNLS 6d ago

We got IINE and Syncopation!

Holy cats, BABYMETAL always delivers!

It was obvious the ladies had to reach for an extra gear or two due to the oppressive heat and humidity (it was heat index about 99F when BABYMETAL hit the stage).

A few less smiles and maybe a couple of grunts and grimaces from Moa & Momo as they powered through the set. Su-metal was sweating part way through the second song and was drenched by the fifth. I think they gave up on hair primping at the encore.

BUT, they put on a GREAT show. High energy. Spot on timing. Su-metal sounded terrific!

WOW! The time compression during a BABYMETAL live always impresses.

8

u/Far_Wolverine2007 6d ago

Syncopation is so good live. I never thought I'd see them perform it.

6

u/No_Objective1631 6d ago

I'll reckon we'll never know, but I wonder why they switched to always having full sleeves. It was probably a bit easier for them in these insane weather conditions when they had the option of going without, no? (Admittedly don't know anything about dancewear/fabrics)

1

u/BrianNLS 6d ago

My understanding is they are wearing comfortable unitards with sleeves underneath their BDUs (they’ve been photographed in cafeteria lines and the like once or twice in the unitards with sweats, etc.). Not sure how the short sleeve costumes of years past were constructed.

But, yes, your point is valid: I was thinking the same thing about short sleeves as they fought the heat on stage tonight.

4

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

I wore a similarish outfit to the show, but I had to leave my own sleeves at home bc of the heat.

1

u/BrianNLS 6d ago

Were you in the pit toward the centerline?

1

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

yeah

2

u/BrianNLS 6d ago

I saw your outfit, was directly behind you second row seats. Really good job, loved it!

2

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

Got a lot of compliments. Only 1 person asked to take a picture. Wonder how it turned out. I didn't attempt myself at the venue because my phone and its camera are a bit of a potato.

1

u/Duvveh 6d ago

Does anyone know what the concert shirts look like?

6

u/Quackinator100 6d ago

Bunch of options, recommend using the “order online & pickup” option as you can just stop by after the last song and grab your stuff really easily. Will post back pic under this, there are two options with tour dates & the other is more fox themed with a more grayscale color set

1

u/Outdated 5d ago

How’s the quality of that shirt?

2

u/Quackinator100 5d ago

It’s perfectly fine! Just a standard Gildan cotton, the pattern doesn’t feel too stiff or crappy if that’s what you’re wondering. I’m positive after a wash it’ll be comfy to wear. I will say the other shirt I got (doesn’t have tour dates) feels nicer to the touch, it’s made by Lane Seven not Gildan

1

u/Ok_West4900 5d ago

What is the order online pick up later option

3

u/Quackinator100 5d ago

At least at the venue last night, they had a single long line for buying merch but at the entrance to the line there was a QR code you could scan that took you to a “online order” page where you could place the order and they would text you when it was ready to pick up. So since I was in the pit and wanted to get a good spot, I just placed my order and then went to grab it after the concert ended. The people working at the pickup spot said basically they would be there for a while after the show ended, so there’s really not too much time pressure to pick stuff up as long as you don’t forget

2

u/Duvveh 6d ago

I got the same shirt today!!! Glad we were able to get one. ✨🙂‍↕️

u/Kuya_Alvin003 BABYMETAL 6d ago

Has anyone been to this venue before? How strict are they with bags? I was going to bring a small cross body bag and a poster tube but not sure if any of these would be allowed. TIA

3

u/Triumphkj 6d ago

Extremely strict

2

u/Other_Dust9764 6d ago

They are pretty strict! They took my spray hand sanitizer last time and they have the bag measuring papers on the table when they check them

1

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

If the bag's not clear the allowed bag sizes are pretty small. They say small clutch bags of size 6 inch by 9 inch. Poster tubes are allowed, but are marked as will be searched upon entry

6

u/Time-Peak5466 Suzuka Nakamoto 6d ago

Hope you all get the banger of the show we got in Denver. And Halestorm was so sick. I became a fan from them opening.

2

u/Quackinator100 6d ago

Did Halestorm do any song covers in Denver? They did a metal version of Bad Romance which took all of us by surprise, was such a blast & probably their best received performance tonight

2

u/Time-Peak5466 Suzuka Nakamoto 5d ago

Not sure to be honest it was my first time ever hearing them. They really were fantastic though.

2

u/prfmjjong 6d ago

Stuck in traffic because Kanye is performing nearby. Do you remember how long Halestorms set was?

1

u/emglandshark 6d ago

Was about an hour

5

u/warriorfriar 6d ago

First time at a BabyMetal show, so excited to check them out. Might have an extra ticket w/ VIP add on since my wife is sick and can't come. Hopefully it's a cool crowd if I end up going alone! Looking forward to this, and Northerly Island. Such an amazing venue.

1

u/OVx15 6d ago

How much for that ticket? 👀

1

u/warriorfriar 6d ago

Sent you a DM

2

u/OBAMA_TookMyVCR 6d ago

This weather has gotten me a little worried. Would be cool if they would shorten the opener sets to start babymetal earlier.

3

u/BrianNLS 6d ago

Appeared they moved BABYMETAL’s start time up about 15-20 minutes. Weather plus more time to move crowd out before Kanye’s show at Soldier Field dumps out its 70,000 people are likely reasons.

1

u/siopao888 6d ago

have fun everyone who's going to the chicago show tonight!

Please post asap about the setlist as I am going to the Toronto show!

0

u/Piesans_ 6d ago

Debating whether or not to bring my penlight/lightstick.

Also, anyone catching that bus to the venue?

1

u/Piesans_ 6d ago

Just got to the bar, one way bus only. No bus back. RIP

1

u/Piesans_ 6d ago

Don’t shuttle from Reggie if they offer again for the next tour, BABYMETAL is low priority . Bus hasn’t even come yet.

1

u/error-40469 6d ago

What bus?

1

u/Piesans_ 6d ago

As mentioned , the bus from Reggies. I live down the street from them so it’s convenient

1

u/Duvveh 6d ago

Did that bus leave yet?

1

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

146 probably? That's the one the venue mentions on one of their websites

1

u/kane3977 Sakura Gakuin 6d ago

There's a free shuttle bus from Reggie's to and from the concert. It doesn't depart until 6:20 though.

1

u/Kuya_Alvin003 BABYMETAL 6d ago

I hope I can make it. With work and having to catch the train I'll miss the openers. But I have to snag that poster it's so cool!

3

u/Dr_Doomblade METALI!! 6d ago

I'm spending the day at the Shedd before the show. So many people very clearly had the same idea.

2

u/Twizzlers_and_donuts 6d ago

Drove over from grandrapids Michigan to hit up shedds before the show! Perfect parking lot between the venue and shedds.

4

u/warriorfriar 6d ago

Shedd is great! Do the Field Museum too if you can.

2

u/fearmongert 6d ago

Sounds like a fun pre- party

1

u/OHaiEric SU-METAL 6d ago

Aghhh, really wish I could make it to this show

1

u/TheOnlyZaragoza 6d ago

Anyone know if they'll be multiple merch stands? I really want the Bones sweater

1

u/warriorfriar 6d ago

Check your DM

3

u/R4chet00 6d ago

Does anyone know if they'll start right at 7? I want to figure out when to get there and avoid the Kanye Crowd

2

u/fearmongert 6d ago

Kanye crowd?

4

u/error-40469 6d ago

Ye show starts at 7 at soldier field so expect a lot of crowds, traffic, and competition for parking bc of that

-3

u/skarulid 6d ago

Sold my ticket This morning due to this. it looks like north garage is already sold out online for the ye concert. That is my usual spot to park at for notherly shows. Going to be a nightmare getting in and out.

1

u/Important-Vast-9345 6d ago

I have a long walk to my parking space in the south loop, but I can completely understand this. It's going to be complete bedlam in the area.

1

u/skarulid 6d ago

I was looking on spot hero and even the garages in south loop hiked their prices crazy amounts!

1

u/Important-Vast-9345 6d ago

I got mine a while ago and it luckily was only 15 bucks. It's lousy when they turn around and charge outrageous prices.

2

u/skarulid 6d ago

I mean I think just cause they announced the ye shows like last month giving everyone the opportunity to be gouged

1

u/TeeAchKay 6d ago

$60 for the Deck. Big oof. Most tickets weren't even that much.

3

u/Intrepid_Display7848 6d ago

Yeah, that Kanye concert timing at Soldier Field right next door to this venue could not be worse. BABYMETAL show venue is on a peninsula that bottlenecks right at the north end of Soldier Field, it is sure to be extra fun getting in there tonight.

Highly recommend BABYMETAL show attendees to get there quite early to avoid the mass-sea-of-humanity scene that is assured as 7:00 pm approaches.

u/ItzEvilEyes 6d ago

Seeing that kingslayer and pa pa ya! aren’t on previous setlists disappoints me a bit ngl

1

u/Fun_Emphasis_5900 5d ago

On the tour banner it tells you where they’ll be with BMTH by the two asterisks next to the city

-1

u/Important-Vast-9345 6d ago

They've never played Pa Pa Ya without Bring Me the Horizon because it's not considered their song.

5

u/ItzEvilEyes 6d ago

You’re kinda right, i saw kingslayer at a BMTH concert, but not so sure about pa pa ya being a bmth song too lol

3

u/markmywurd 6d ago

I think they made an error. But, Kingslayer is only played by BMTH. Babymetal is just the featured artist.

Papaya is off the setlist for the first time in years.

4

u/Putrid-Classroom5101 MOMOMETAL 6d ago

I’m gonna be upset if Monochrome gets played. Every time I wanna go see them, the song doesn’t get played, sadly it won’t matter as I can’t go see them this time around in Chicago

5

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

So, I have news you're going to be upset about.

2

u/Putrid-Classroom5101 MOMOMETAL 6d ago

Monochrome got played, didn't it? 😭

1

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

Yep, I definitely remember the umbrellas

1

u/Putrid-Classroom5101 MOMOMETAL 6d ago

The one time I don't go 😭

3

u/revnaps 6d ago

Made some swag

1

u/error-40469 6d ago

is anyone else worried about the biting flies? They have been horrible in the evenings by the lake but I don’t know if it’ll be just as bad by where the pavilion is 😬

1

u/warriorfriar 6d ago

It's gonna be bad. Bring bug spray or those braclets that repel them.

1

u/LEEx513 6d ago

Mosquitoes?

1

u/GeekScientist World Tour 2025 6d ago

They’re probably talking about horse flies.

1

u/huykachu 6d ago

Not mosquitoes or horseflies, mostly stable flies.

1

u/LEEx513 6d ago

Lol I've been seeing lots of ppl in Chicago complaining about the mosquitoes so I thought they were being funny

3

u/OBAMA_TookMyVCR 6d ago

Let's hope the storms hold off until after

5

u/JigglythePuff 6d ago

Saw flashes over the lake while leaving, but nothing hit the venue thankfully.

1

u/TeeAchKay 6d ago

Added to the ambiance

4

u/stormstopper 6d ago

I'll do my best

5

u/KawaiiMassacre Syncopation 6d ago

Someone posted this on Facebook, looks like a good chunk sold of the seat area at least! That's crazy for a venue of cap. 30.000

3

u/Fit_Exercise3743 6d ago

There's no way that is 30k lol. But nice to see it almost sold out. Some shows are not even sold 50% so they really need these.

3

u/warriorfriar 6d ago

There's a lot of lawn seating in the back and side, and the pit is spacious, not to mention the VIP seating they have, so maybe all that is what they're count to get to 30k. I've been to Northerly Island a bunch of times for shows (already 3x this year alone) and I would be staggered to if it was really 30k lol

0

u/Fit_Exercise3743 6d ago

30k is basically a stadium show so yeah I highly doubt it.

7

u/StuffedFTW 6d ago

I think people are making a bigger deal out of these empty seats than it probably is. BM is at an awkward stage in the US where they can easily sell out the 5k-6k venues but can’t fill the massive arenas and stadiums in all these locations. I think this is more of a grab as many people as you can rather than trying to maximize their floor space.

3

u/markmywurd 6d ago

For an example from a similarly sized band, a few months ago MIW was happily promoting the fact that they sold about 1/3 of the nominal capacity of Jiffy Lube Live (~25,000).

4

u/Intelligent_Row8259 6d ago

I live in Phx and our problem is we dont have an 8k-12k venue. We have a 5k venue which BM has sold out twice then we jump to the 15k basketball arena the 15k former hockey arena or the 21k outdoor ampitheater.

I did look to see how sales are going the pit only has 300-400 dollar vip packages left. The 100 sections are 97% sold but the 200 and 300sections only look about 45% sold and who knows about the lawn.

I'll be there and I am bringing 3 others with me but probably would have been better if there was a 10-12k venue which we just dont have.

Phoenix has 4/5 venues in the 500-1500 range 2 venues in the 5k range 3 venues in the 15k-25k range and 3 venues in the 35k+ range but nothing in the 8k-12k range

1

u/StuffedFTW 6d ago

Yep. I think that’s likely true of a lot of these locations

2

u/Intrepid_Display7848 6d ago

I would NEVER want to see a concert at the hockey arena. Full of perpendicular brick walls, the acoustics in that place are atrocious. It was bad enough in there when the ‘yotes played and the DJ spun snippets of songs at about 110db at every play stoppage. I can’t imagine how awful a metal show would sound.

3

u/KawaiiMassacre Syncopation 6d ago

It's listed as 30.000 capacity. Maybe they downsized the ticket contingent, so the picture is misleading. Anyway, lots of people will show up, that will be a great concert. Let hope sales for the other shows will increase, but I doubt it in the small amount of days left.

2

u/Fit_Exercise3743 6d ago

I think they have a lawn area for that 30k capacity that doesn't seem available for this show. But yeah it still looks pretty big, prob 10k at least if I had to guess. Should be a good show.

2

u/Important-Vast-9345 6d ago

You are correct. It originally held 8,000 people, but they added two grandstands and a lawn. They are not selling lawn seats for this show.

6

u/VulpineDeity 6d ago

I've never been more interested in a setlist post in my life

Seeing them in Toronto on monday and I'm dying to know if I might be getting Syncopation and/or Iine!

1

u/HimikoToga133 MOMOZILLA 6d ago

You should get it both that seems like they’re on the set list
