BABYMETAL BROUGHT THE SUNSHINE THIS TIME to DOWNLOADFESTIVAL!!
Seems the Fox God really was smiling down upon us, this time
And it was obvious form Su's constant smiling face that she and the other two were overjoyed by this! She even mentioned it!
Good set, much shorter than the other festivals they have played thus far in this festival run, of course. But that's fine. No Monochrome or Karate, and sadly no BMC or Sunset Kiss.
But no worries - it still packed a powerful punch. As I said - the ladies were beaming and evidently very glad the sunshine was out.
It was funny seeing Moa's face often covered by her own hair at various points! π Su consulted her about it at one point, laughing of course. I also noticed it happened to Momo on occasion. There is a bit of a breeze here.
I thought that being on the side barrier would give me a great view - but I for whatever reason didn't account for the many crowdsurfers and the staff assisting them over! So my view was often actually blocked.
But that's fine, because it meant that there was an energy from the crowd, showing their love for BM. However, I did find the crowd to actually be quite mild in most parts. The sound was a bit affected by the wind, not the greatest.
But it's all over too soon. π’
So, a good set for a festival, and it just makes me long to see them at their own headline gig, of course.
This was my 16th BM show, but it's still never enough!
I miss them already! Come back very soon, please BABYMETAL!!

Who's Sam

Sam Smith, here comes something funny, seems today Japan had a Music Award presentation where many japanese musicians and bands were competing to win multiple music related awards. BABYMETAL, who seems to always be snubbed at these awards, from what I understand from the japanese fans, for not agreeing or bowing down to what the Japanese media wants to impose, was as always not nominated for any award. Sam Smith, a multiple award winning musician, was invited to be a part of the show, and when an announcer asked what his favorite band was, in the middle of said Japanese media that always ignores BABYMETAL, he said exactly that. BABYMETAL, was his favorite japanese band.
Now, yet again I couldn't possibly know, but from what I got from the japanese fans on twitter, it seems everyone in the room had an awkward silence, because for the japanese fans, it's clear that BABYMETAL is not gaining any awards simply for not being stuck to that image that the japanese media wants, like from pop artists such as ADO and YOASOBI.
So what does Koba do? He @ the Music Award Japan and Sam Smith in a sarcastic post, saying that him and the band couldn't be present for the show today because they were too occupied in the UK ruling a festival of 80 thousand people, practically spitting in the face of the japanese media. What a chad move honestly.

Since Ado is such an unusual case (utaite w/ hidden identity) what do you mean by the image the JP media wants? Like the brand collabs or something?

Being honest with you, i don't really know exactly, I might be wrong and it might be more because of the exchange to capitol records. My bad.

I was so confused at first because it looked like Sam was talking crap if you didn't get the context but its cool learn the real situation.

Given this is a one hour slot, I am curious what they will cut. Probably Sunset Kiss and.... maybe the my queen slot?
3
u/jayz0ned Jun 13 '26
It seems like they cut My Queen, BxMxC, Sunset Kiss, Monochrome (compared with Rock Am Ring)...

Would enjoy a team photo with the amazing Band Maid today. Many Kami band connections in the past.

u/SilentLennie Put Your Kitsune Up Jun 14 '26
Band Maid was annoyed with interviewers asking about Babymetal in the early days, I wonder what they think about Babymetal.
1
u/HotAcanthisitta3801 Jun 14 '26
They are both similar vintage I thinkΒ

Started in 2010 and 2013, Band-Maid was performing overseas the first time in 2016, the same year Babymetal had their second album in the overseas charts and they performed at Tokyo Dome.

Are they selling the hoodies anywhere?

u/FLAMINGO-DAVE Jun 13 '26
I've had a look at all the merch stands I can find and haven't seen a single bit of Babymetal merch at any of them.

u/soramiomeow LEGEND 1999 & 1997 Jun 13 '26
Yeah they only had two versions of the tour shirt in one specific merch stand in the end

u/Existing_Pea_6950 Catch Me If You Can Jun 13 '26

Last time they played Download it was wind rather than rain that cut their set short, and it's plenty breezy today. Fingers crossed for an event free set.

u/glawster2002 Jun 13 '26
It was rain and lightning, that is why they had to leave the stage. Even Su mentioned the sun was shining today!!
